    Dr. Tara - this is Dr. Susan! :) I am a balance and dizziness PT in AL, and our patient population is beginning to increase in the area of CVA's, an area in which I feel weak. I am so very thankful for your videos and tutorials! These are very beneficial to me in my practice and the videos may be used by my patients to help themselves outside the clinic! Thank you, thank you for your sharing your time and your expertise! You are enabling others to help more patients! Blessings to you!

      Thank you for your response! I read it with an open mind and gracious assumptions. We are all here to help one another, and I appreciate your kindness and concern for patients. I will definitely take your words to heart and seriously consider whether or not I am the best clinician to help these pts or if they would be better suited for an outside referral. Our team strives NOT to be cookie cutter, but to be able to treat a variety of vestibular and nonvestibular/balance patients, as well. We are building our toolboxes for a number of diagnoses and taking CE courses in other neuro areas exactly to avoid being just cookie-cutter PT's. Hope that eases your mind some! Thanks again for your perspective. Blessings!

    I always watch your videos when you first upload them. But today I actually got a chance to try this exercise. This was quite tough but doable. I was able to take the step forward and back but loading the affected leg was hard even though I was able to do it. I think I’ll stay right here for sometime. Lol. Thank you you definitely show me a new way to do things I never would’ve thought to stay in a squat position. 👍

    • @rehabhqofficial
      @rehabhqofficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am so glad! yes, this is a "loaded" exercise and you could stay here for awhile and that is OK. Think big picture and what you want your walking to be like down the road :)

      Orlando Neuro Therapy May I ask in your experience how many days did you see changes in your clients? I know everyone is different but I’m planning to do these every day for a week. And of course longer if I see Great improvement. Just curious

    • @rehabhqofficial
      @rehabhqofficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MoniqueShaq22 Great question! I get this question a lot. :) I see positive changes almost every session that I work with someone. That is kind of my goal. I will say, the ones who do their home program, see greater changes than those that don't. The reason is because I have to spend a ton of time facilitating movement that they could have been doing on their own at home. The ones who do their home program, we can go right to higher level stuff. As for what YOU should aim for, I would do them consistently every day for a minimum of 6 months. Most stroke programs that have documented great changes, the patient's were performing some sort of movement 6 hr/day for 4-6 weeks. Because that is not feasible for most, that is why I say 6 months minimum. If you have been using abnormal movement patterns for a long time, the time will be longer. I hope that makes sense.

    My wife collapsed out of weakness on to her left foot and ankle causing a double fracture back in 2017. While attempting to recover her right foot curved in and locked out in a pointed position. After a year of recovery with no allowance for weight baring on her left foot for one year the condition became worst with her right food. The doctors and therapists treating her told us her right leg had suffered soft tissue damage that could not be treated. After seeing your videos and supplemental research I have come to believe these two issues are unrelated at some level. i have a deeper concern that she may have suffered a stroke while being treated and cared for outside of our home. I am going to attempt following your steps with her to see if there could be some improvement. Sadly, this has been going on for 6 years. She is suffering over all body weakness now, this will require creative methods of implementing your exercises.

      @rehabhqofficial  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! Think outside the box. If photography is something you love to do, can you find alternative ways to shoot? Maybe tripod and a remote to make it easier to take pictures with one hand? Also, a field monitor helps a lot so that you do not have to be so close to the camera. I use one similar to this: amzn.to/2SQmK8s. (disclaimer: I am NOT a photographer). Just a thought to maybe make it a more tangible goal. Keep working! I think it is a great that you have this goal. It will keep you motivated to keep working hard. :)

    • @rehabhqofficial
      @rehabhqofficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      steve kierstead they are both a characteristic of the amount of tension in a muscle but spasticity is velocity has to do with how quickly and muscle is lengthened. You can have both at the same time after a stroke

    • @mrstevek118

      Orlando Neuro Therapy are they both treated the same way

    • @rehabhqofficial
      @rehabhqofficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mrstevek118 yes and no. I will defer to your therapist to explain this to you as this is a little complicated. Basically, you want to avoid fast movements with spasticity. So if you or anyone else is stretching you, it needs to be slow with spasticity. Note, this is a very simplified answer :)

      I typically do not recommend this type of walker. They are very dangerous. Here is the walker I recommend: amzn.to/2TpDlAF. It is better for people who have one stronger arm as you can control the breaking system with one hand. It also has something called "reverse breaks" which I LOVE.
