    Awesome! I bought my wife a Savage MSR AR in 6.5 the other day for her birthday. Planning on taking it out for caribou in a couple months.

      Good slug, good placement at a reasonable range, that sould take a caribou quite nicely.

    When shooting for groups keep your head down on the cheek rest and just run the bolt. Everytime you lift your head you’re creating a different alignment.

    I'd like to see you use the Hornady Match. If you could have shot four or 5 shot group I believe it actually would do better groups.
    Black ammo looked like it wanted to produce vertical groups and at longer ranges would open up more. Vertical is bad as is horizontal.
    Look for the tightest Lil clover 🍀. It will deliver better results. Handloads or factory.
    Great video as usual.

    I appreciate your emphasis on 'affordable'. I was watching another video where they interviewed a guy who was in management at one of the scope companies and he said something to the effect that a $3,000 scope is simply not necessary. Because of your more realistic approach to buy reasonably priced guns and scopes, it's pretty obvious that you don't have to spend thousands of dollars on a set-up. That's real encouraging to those of us who don't have unlimited resources to spend on our obsessions. (How many of us have that kind of money.) (I know this is set-up is your buddies, but I'm speaking regarding your videos as a whole. Thanks for keeping it real.

    I know I am coming in late here, but if you start reloading you will find the consistency that the rifle is capable of. Been reloading for 30 years, and loading for 6.5 creed since 2017. Found that it likes 140 gr speer and sierra btsp. Just loaded some 95gr Hornady last week, wow it really does well and significantly less recoil. I am shooting a 12 lds+ Savage Ba110 stealth. Thanks for a informative video.

    Hornady Black isn’t the best ammo to test zero. You should really consider buying some Hornady 140 bthp bullets(very affordable & widely available) and some H4350 and work a handload up since you are into reloading now.

    I'm new to long range shooting. I went twice trying to zero my scope but I wasn't able to. One reason is due to several surgeries on my eyes I cannot look through the scope for more than few minutes. After few rounds I completely cannot see the reticle. But I know should be able to do it with few rounds though. It is really bothering me. I'm going to look for a long range precision shooting class hoping it will help me with what I'm doing wrong. That rifle should shoot better. You need to accurize that ammo to that particular rifle by adjusting the seating depth. Try a 100th each way out and in and then re-test and I'd bet you would close those groups.

    • @wdtaut5650
      @wdtaut5650 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The rifle does shoot better. The original test was for factory ammo at 100 yds. He did much better with all but one brand at well under 1 MOA, at least one at under 0.5 MOA. He made it clear the tests are for hunting, not bench rest precision, so factory only, no hand loads. In another video, he said he does not hand load.

  • @wdtaut5650
    @wdtaut5650 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have seen that before. Great groups at 100 yds., sort of OK at 200. I think it is part psychological and part practice. Get used to shooting 200 yds. and see whether there is improvement. I asked a long range competitor about it and he said most people use too much scope at 100 yds and don't have enough zoomies left to double the magnification for 200. I shoot 100 yds. with 4x so I had not thought about the scope being a factor.
    Your drop chart shows you that you can sight-in 2 in. high at 100 yds, and be on at 200. I bet if you sighted 4 in. high at 100, you'd be point blank for deer past 300. In real life, I'm like you: my deer are within 60 yds. usually. Where I hunted last year, the range finder said the longest possible shot was 87 yds.
