    Thanks heaps, locked down in Australia right now, but as soon as we can leave the country, possibly Christmas this year, I plan to head straight over to Europe. Maybe end Jan to mid Feb. Rome on top of my list as A) it's Rome, and B) probably best weather in Western/Central Europe.

    Thank you so much for your videos! They've really helped me plan my trip :) Quick question, if you can spare some time to answer: Would you recommend starting early for site-seeing (around 7 am?) since it's going to be dark in winter. Do the monuments (e.g. St. Peters) have indoor lighting early in the morning? Thanks again!

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot for watching and for your kind comments!
      Sure I always recommend sight-seeing very early. It's a great way to see sights without any crowds, even in low season. St. Peter's opens at 7am, so you will be able to go inside even then.
      Yes, many monuments have some sort of lighting but not all of them do. But by 7am you will start seeing the beginnings of sunrise.
      Hope that helps!

      @@Romewise Gah, sorry I hadn't gotten back yet...
      The only really bad thing was that we did 4 major cities in 2 weeks, so, too much too fast.
      But...
      It was fantastic 😄
      The weather was almost perfect, considering it was February.
      We went to Ad Hoc for Valentine's dinner, then threw our coins in the Trevi.
      The next night, we went to Alfredo alla Scrofa.
      Can't wait to go back, next time at I'm thinking a week in Rome, and a week in Sorrento 🙂

    My partner and I are thinking about going to Rome 31st Jan-4th Feb or 23rd-27th May. Which one do you think will be the best time to go? ☺️

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow these are two very different kinds of visits, weather and crowd-wise. Late May is extremely peak season so you can expect crowds, and especially in 2022 as I believe tourism is only going to increase a lot by then. The weather is wonderful, the days are long, and there are flowers everywhere, but you will have to contend with crowds and probably higher prices for flights and hotels.
      January/early February is low season and much quieter. Yes it's cold and the days are short but you will have a much less crowded Rome. Depends on what you want out of your trip!

      @@Romewise thank you so much! We have just booked a 5 day trip to Rome on those days in Jan/Feb. Thought it was much better as even though it’s cold - I’m from England so it wouldn’t be too much different and would be quieter and less expensive than in May! Plus, it’s my partner’s birthday while we’re there so definitely a win ☺️

    We are due in Rome on March 4 and feeling very concerned about the Corona virus situation, don't know if we cancel, don't want to cancel.

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Dave and thank you for watching my video. I understand you are concerned about visiting Rome right now.
      Many others have said it much better than me, but I will give you the same answer I've been giving across all my social media channels:
      *****Please note that I am not a medical professional or public health official. I have no authority to state whether you should come to Rome or not. I am just giving you my impression from someone who lives here. You should follow guidelines put in place by the CDC, WHO, and by your embassy.*****
      First of all, please take into consideration that a cold/flu virus is going to get around, no matter what.
      As I am sure you have heard, the regular flu virus kills over half a million people a year. Most viruses like this are dangerous for people who are very old, very sick, have a grave respiratory illness, and/or have a compromised immune system. Otherwise, as many health officials have said, people can have this virus (and other similar cold/flu viruses) and never show symptoms and fully recover without even knowing they had it.
      Closing borders will not stop this or any flu virus. You can take preventative action like always washing your hands after you use the bathroom, before you eat, and if possible, after you've touched surfaces in public places.
      I believe there have been measures put in place, including closures of some school and other civic places, simply as a precaution and also possibly to reduce liability, but less for fear of contagion.
      In Rome, we have had 2 people with the virus, both of whom have almost fully recovered. There is no crisis in Rome, and I have been out and about and so has everyone I know. I also see tourists out and sightseeing and it seems normal. On the other hand, there have been people cancelling, and so you will find the attractions less crowded than normal.
      The only thing closed in Rome right now are the catacombs, due to their small spaces and humidity. But again, I believe this is purely a precaution rather than a fear.
      Finally, if your worry is that you will be quarantined, or not allowed to leave here or reenter your country, obviously I cannot guarantee this won't happen. I just think that as time goes on and cases appear around the world, we will be seeing fewer quarantines, not more.
      Here are some articles by people here in Italy that you may find helpful:

    What do you think is the best time to visit Rome?

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question! I have a whole page about this on the website. I will soon make a video about this, too. Here's the page:
      www.romewise.com/best-time-to-visit-rome.html
      There is no simple answer, as it depends on what you want out of your trip. Spring and fall offer the best weather, but are the busiest seasons. I personally love winter for the quiet but yes, it can be cold and rainy. Check out the page for more!
