I come back to this video when going through severe heartache...letting myself be overwhelmed by this beautiful music it makes me cry in such a healing way
this is so beautiful! i love your sufjan covers so much and i've literally watched them all countless times. so deeply inspired by your arrangements and original work always.
I saw the title of this video in my reccomended and said "oh no..." out loud because I knew this would bring me to tears without even clicking on it...and sure enough seconds in and I've lost it. Beautiful, beautiful work. One of my favorite songs.
years later and this is still my favorite piano composition. it's just so good. on a technical level, it's great; but there's something about the way you play... it's so rhythmically hypnotizing, and it feels like a stream of consciousness. i'm generally pretty stoic and don't feel any emotion towards art, but this shit is genuinely beautiful and i just really hope you're doing well.
i'm bad at technology, so this is my gma's account, although I've never taken the time to make an account, or comment on a single video ever, I had to tell you: Whoever you are, this is absolutely beautiful. So beautiful that I suspect i'll hear this on my way through the pearly gates.
Hey Joshua, I discovered your channel recently and it's been a revelation. I'm teaching myself to play the piano and your videos are such an inspiration to keep moving forward. Huge silver lining in what has definitely been the most ridiculous, exhausting year I can remember. Thank you for sharing these amazing pieces. Now back to binging the backlog :)
Hi Guilherme. Nice to hear from you, I'm so glad you've found the channel and are enjoying the music. There's nothing that makes me happier. Here's to a better 2021.
This was the first song of Sufjan's that I ever heard and led to me falling in love with his music. Can't express enough how much I love your beautiful rendition, and I look forward to more of his music from you! If you're taking suggestions, I'd love to see what you can do with The Only Thing ~
Been learning this arrangement by ear from this video. You really develop an appreciate for this particular arrangement and hand movements when you learn to play it yourself. About halfway through so far. Thanks for giving me a break from quarantine remote work.
I want to upvote this everytime I see it, alas, you can only do it once. This has brought much joy and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours, Heavypiano.
One of the most beautiful pieces I have ever heard. Brought me to tears this morning, your hands paint such a moving picture and emotion that I relate to this . BRAVO! Thank you very much
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful talent. It's wonderful to hear these tunes in such a sweet soulful way. Your fingers have an amazing ability to carry the weight of emotion through the play. Its easy to feel how much you truly adore these songs as well in order to carry that forward.
I can't count how many times I've watched this since I first discovered your channel many months ago~ so beautiful~ thank you for sharing your amazing talent!
Awesome job. An absolutely incredible arrangement of Sufjan. You really managed to capture the soul of the song even given all that is going on in the original. Also, mad props for those chords. Sooooooo nice. Do you have any plans to make your versions available for download at all? I have listened quite a few times. :)
Thanks! I'd love to get into a studio to record some of these some day, at which point I'd be happy to share the recordings (also would need permissions).

As a huge Elliott and Sufjan fan, I just can't thank you enough for the brilliant covers you put out. Can I ask you for any quick tips or advice on becoming a more intuitive pianist? I don't know much theory, and I'm pretty robotic. I can really only learn songs from sheets and I'm rubbish at improvising. You inspire me to improve!
PopDeOllie, thanks for listening-I'm really honored you enjoy my playing. In addition to practicing scales with a metronome to improve fluidity, do you ever try to sing the song you are playing in your head, or hum along with what you are playing? I find recording myself is good for feedback as well.
@@heavypiano Haha I hear that! Are the Radiohead covers under "heavypiano"? The Exit Music cover is mindblowing, so will be great to listen to that on my one legally-permitted daily trip outside
Just came across your excellent cover of Casimir Pulaski Day. Beautiful work on one of my favorite songs. I'm hearing some influences from Brad Mehldau, Tori Amos and Bruce Hornsby in your interpretation. Do you know where a person could find the piano sheet music to this song? I've looked everywhere but seem to have struck out. Thanks again for your great work on this piece.
+kylejulieandclare That's really nice of you to say, thank you. Hmm, sheet music? I just played by ear, but I know my chords are not 100% accurate to the album version. I would see if you can't find a guitar tab with chords and then between that and this video you can pull some notes by looking at my hands. Sorry I can't be of more help.
So from fiddling around a bit, it looks and sounds like a vamp on Eb, Db, Bbm, Ab. Are you messing around a bit on the even-numbered Db part of the progression when Stevens has just concluded a lyric? Brad Mehldau does that sort of chord-twisting in his version of Neil Young' "Old Man," and I just love it. I'll bet you could come up with a killer interpretation of "Some Kind of Fairytale" by Tori Amos.
+kylejulieandclare I think those are the chords I used here, more or less. I meant to say "my chords are not 100% accurate to the album version" I'm not sure about the Db spot you're talking about, but I'll look up the Tori Amos song. Thanks for listening, and I hope you can come to an arrangement of your own!
Where can we find the sheet music, or would it be illegal for you to give it out? If it is not free I am fine buying it I just can't seem to find it anywhere.
Joesph, I've added it to my list. I'm in the thick of playing for summer ballet camps right now so I don't know how much uploading I will do for the next few weeks. Thanks for listening and for your request.

This is seriously one of the most beautiful compositions I've heard, of any song.

Shared this one with a bunch of friends who are Sufjan fans. This is a really tasteful and chill cover.
Thanks Josh! As a small creator I really appreciate it.

That's very nice of you to say, thank you Camron.
You just made a grown man cry tears of joy, sadness, and nostalgia. So good man
This song holds a lot of personal meaning to me. Your composition of it takes it's profoundness to an entirely new level. Thank you.

Loved your arrangement with the jazz take. Would love a cover of Fourth of July or Chicago- Sufjan

One of Sufjan's best and yours as well

Goldenrod and the 4H stone
The things I brought you
When I found out you had cancer of the bone
Your father cried on the telephone
And he drove his car into the navy yard
Just to prove that he was sorry
In the morning, through the window shade
When the light pressed up against your shoulder blade
I could see what you were reading
All the glory that the Lord has made
And the complications you could do without
When I kissed you on the mouth
Tuesday night at the Bible study
We lift our hands and pray over your body
But nothing ever happens
I remember at Michael's house
In the living room when you kissed my neck
And I almost touched your blouse
In the morning at the top of the stairs
When your father found out what we did that night
And you told me you were scared
All the glory when you ran outside
With your shirt tucked in and your shoes untied
And you told me not to follow you
Sunday night when I cleaned the house
I find the card where you wrote it out
With the pictures of you mother
On the floor at the great divide
With my shirt tucked in and my shoes untied
I am crying in the bathroom
In the morning when you finally go
And the nurse runs in with her head hung low
And the cardinal hits the window
In the morning in the winter shade
On the 1st of March on the holiday
I thought I saw you breathing
All the glory that the Lord has made
And the complications when I see His face
In the morning in the window
All the glory when he took our place
But he took my shoulders and he shook my face
And he takes and he takes and he takes

Hi Sarcastic Bookworm. Try my tutorial to see if that might be helpful: th-cam.com/video/3EIRdzOgVto/w-d-xo.html
This is amazing!!! Could you make a tutorial plss, i would love it 😍
Lovely sound, how is this recorded, have you got a mic hidden somewhere, or is this from the camera?
If I wanted to cover this song, could I use this cover as accompaniment?
STUNNING job, by the way. I am blown away.
Do you have sheet music? That woukd be amazing!

💙🎹🤔Call me crazy but this piano sounds identical to the one at the first church I was a member of (TVB)🎹💙
Did you have a Mason and Hamlin grand there?
Reminds me a Bruce Hornsby's style !
mind blowingly good, i love shit like this;
have you heard massive attack's paradise circus? can't help but try to imagine what you'd do to that
Thanks for listening. I'm checking out the Massive Attack tune right now. This would be really cool on the piano-I'll add it to my list. Cheers!
you're a hero
holy shit
+Mateo Aguilera ha, thanks.
heavypiano you are absolutely welcome, i meant it in the most awestruck way
is there a way to acquire this arrangement?
+Susie Sells I apologize that I only have this recording of it, no sheet music. It was improvised more or less.
Could I also add another Sufjan request? It's a bit of an odd one, Justice Delivers Its Death (Silver and Gold)

This was recorded on a Mason and Hamlin BB.
A.fucking. Mazing.
