I 100% agree with everything you said in this video. The HP community was so supportive to each other in this community before the controversy. Even people identifying as Slytherins or Gryffindors got along better than this controversy has turned us into. And the LGBTQ+ community is all about being your true self. Yet the people condemning people for choosing to still enjoy or not to enjoy the series are trying to tell people what to believe. Boycott the new game and the new series. The problem isn't that statement.. the problem is that she will constantly be extremely obsessive over less than 1% of the population. She talks more about trans people than I do as a trans person myself.. she engages in extremely bad faith behavior aswell..for instance.. let's says if there is a trans sexual abuser(most often than not, those people aren't really trans, but that's beside the point)... she will immediately report and make insane statements about the trans community.. why is this bad faith? Well because the majority of sexual crimes aren't committed by trans people(actually generally speaking trans women are the ones suffering this attacks aswell).. why is she talking about the 1%.. why not talk about the other 99% sexual crimes committed by men(and sometimes women aswell).. This is one of the problems, but the biggest problem of them all.. is her association with actually extremely hateful anti trans people.. that have said on record that want the erasure of trans people.. That all being said.. the cancellation it's still ridiculous obviously.. and I'm still a massive fan of her art and world building!

Being a part of lgbtq community makes me feel like I can't be myself unless I agree to tran demands. But I've always said be who you are don't force others into your view you can educate but don't dictate. Yeah there are anti-lbgt bills being passed in the US, but there are also bills being pushed that are designed to protect children from being victimized and mutilated by a manipulative medical industry before their brains are capable of understanding the ramifications. But then if you support these very important bills you are labeled antitrans -because you’re advocating to protect these (mostly) gay kids. Um... in the United States at least, a lot of people hate transgender people. We've been passing laws left and right banning gender affirming Healthcare, or forcing teachers to out their students. It is definitely escalating and trans people have a right to be scared. I have heard people around me make jokes about lining trans people up and shooting them. My brother in law lives with us because they got kicked out of their house for being trans. In Florida, they're trying to take trans kids from their parents. It doesn't justify their agressive behavior towards people who want to enjoy Harry Potter, but it's also false to imply trans people are being dramatic for being afraid.
I ABSOLUTELY DIDN'T want to watch the show, because i LOVE the old cast and i firmly believe there can be no HP without Alan Rickman, but the "war on Twitter" is slowly convincing me to watch it. If these people are forcing me to choose sides, even if i never wanted to, I'll also buy all the DVDs and some more merchandise, to make sure i support JK

Now for the second, it would be true to point out that many areas in the US have strict gun laws, but it is not a national thing, and there are a lot of places that have essentially nothing at all (as well at it just being, constitutionally enshrined).

Can't say I'd rather have the chance of being locked up for my "intolerant" or "wrong" opinion. I'm not sure what you're saying. That would be a contractually agreed upon thing, because otherwise I have never heard of a case where an employee was forced to hand over social media information lest they suffer some punishment or firing , because that example I just said would fall under coercion or some form of Wrongful Termination. I've just almost never heard of social media being a factor to begin with, maybe outside of some preppy office job. Yeah like I said, I haven't even heard of an example of any employer asking for that or caring, in terms of my own anecdotal personal and interpersonal experience. Even if that was a law, I doubt it's ever being enforced. Even if it was a law that was often enforced (which again, ludicrous), that's still less of a freedom matter than freedom of expression or a right to keep/bear. Video topic has to do with expression of thoughts and opinions online, Dean mentions the fact that people have the freedom to express their thoughts online and how such a thing is important, commenter that you originally replied to mentions the freedoms endemic to the US and how important they are to them, you made a reply talking how freedoms are also around within other places in the world, and then I made a reply to that.

Still, I do want to also say that within my whole set of replies, if it's seeming as if I'm saying those other countries (In this case just the UK) don't have any freedoms at all, then that's definitely not it. They do have freedoms, and the West in particular has a great many that are super important, it's just that the degree of freedom isn't exactly the same from place to place. Perhaps it is, perhaps it's just a custom in some places (maybe it was a random HR push for it in one company or something that was viewed a bunch). I would have to look into it if I wanted to know much. It would be very strange, and a big infringement on privacy, for almost no apparent reason. I was not thinking of that example, I was just thinking in my head that I had never seen any case where that happened. Well in that regard, certainly. I'd say Law and proper Justice are in constant need of improvement. You as well! 👍
back in my day if i didn't like the song i switched to another one or simply turned the whole thing off, if you don't like something just do something that is creative and makes you happy. Regarding the new HP series, every publicity is publicity so it won't hurt it at all. Think of the time Umbridge decided to ban the Quibbler, it only made sure that everybody read it :) In all honesty, I hope such attacks won't come down hard on the kids and the rest of cast with this crap, hopefully by the time it airs this whole thing will have moved on as many other things do. I found this series at a point in my life where i didn’t have any friends and I wasn’t in the best shape mentally. It was giving me hope that if an orphan boy could find friends and do all these things, i could lead my own life that didn’t have those type struggles. This series lead me finding the best friend i could have ever had and still have now. Ive met so many nice ppl thru events around this series and all compliments on my cosplay really helped boost my self confidence and my mental state. It is a shame that people cant just ignore things if they don’t like them and instead be nasty.

They are totally blind to how their recent behavior resembles the worst of the hate and the _othering_ that purebloods and death eaters did in the story. We live in a mad world. Thank you, that's what I've been saying as well. Because I have never met so many kind people in the HP Fandom. When at a wizard wrock concert. I was only twelve at the time. They asked people who lost their loved ones to come up to the stage. My mom was shy and I went. They played an instrumental of Hedwig's theme and let us cry or hug and then sang with us a chant about letting go. As I lost my grandma that year and needed it. I've met so many awesome, sweet, and amazing people in the wizard wrock, anime, pride, renfest, art, disabled, and other. I could write a whole book.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed the similarities but if one replaces JKR or Harry Potter with Jew or Jewish,doesn't it seem rather like the ramping up of 1920-30's Germany. If no one remembers what happened, crack open a history book and learn something. The outrageous opinions of a few and how it became crazy. NOW I don't believe these 2 issues are the same in any way but the crazed, almost rabid demand that you're in or you're out smacks of narrow minded extremism that tends to overflow into more than a silly TV show. Learn to separate the opinions from the product. This level of understanding comes with maturity. And it shows.
One thing that is just so frustrating about all of this for me personally, is just how nowadays people talk about how "horrible" Harry Potter is anyway, or bringing up wild accusations using poor reading comprehension of the source material. One example I've seen is people saying the books promote slavery because of the whole scenario with Hermione and the House Elves. When in reality the books are literally showing through Hermione how you can make mistakes and how to avoid them in advocating for change, and making sure you are listening to both sides and learning how to navigate them to enact that change. Literally in the books Sirius would have lived if he had listened to Hermione and respected Kreacher. The HP series is full of beautiful and complex messages, and the fact that people handwave it all as "shitty writing" or make wild accusations just boils my blood. This all reminds me so much again of growing up having to hide my interests so I don't get bullied for being a nerd.

I honestly consider myself a trans ally always have and always will that said I am also a proud Ravenclaw and super excited to see a new interpretation of this series that I have loved my entire life. In my mind this doesn't have to be an either or situation. You can stand with trans people and still love Harry Potter. Now I will buy my merch second hand and bootleg from now on and try my best to minimize how much money I give to she who must not be named, but honestly I have always been a firm believer that you can despise a person and still love their work and you can stand with the people they have hurt and still indulge in your love for said work. It takes effort if you want to indulge while avoiding putting more money in their pockets but if your clever enough especially now and days there are ways.

Rowling doesn't hate trans people. All she ever said was that women exist(which is an extreme point of view to some I suppose). She's very liberal, has donated large amounts of money to charity and has (unlike a lot of rich people) always paid her taxes. She's done far more good than these people that keep coming after her. There's this narrative that she's obsessed with trans bashing when in reality she's under constant attack and occasionally responds by defending herself. She's broadly aligned politically with the people that attack her but because she doesn't agree with everything they say, they hate her. For a long time I have supported trans people and would openly stick up for the community. After the last year or so, it has turned so radical and extreme that I honestly don't want anything to do with it.

With all the bills being passed in the U.S. I would assume they have way more important things to worry about than a TV show.

Um... in the United States at least, a lot of people hate transgender people. We've been passing laws left and right banning gender affirming Healthcare, or forcing teachers to out their students. It is definitely escalating and trans people have a right to be scared. I have heard people around me make jokes about lining trans people up and shooting them. My brother in law lives with us because they got kicked out of their house for being trans. In Florida, they're trying to take trans kids from their parents. It doesn't justify their agressive behavior towards people who want to enjoy Harry Potter, but it's also false to imply trans people are being dramatic for being afraid.
I ABSOLUTELY DIDN'T want to watch the show, because i LOVE the old cast and i firmly believe there can be no HP without Alan Rickman, but the "war on Twitter" is slowly convincing me to watch it. That would be a contractually agreed upon thing, because otherwise I have never heard of a case where an employee was forced to hand over social media information lest they suffer some punishment or firing , because that example I just said would fall under coercion or some form of Wrongful Termination. I've just almost never heard of social media being a factor to begin with, maybe outside of some preppy office job.
Yeah like I said, I haven't even heard of an example of any employer asking for that or caring, in terms of my own anecdotal personal and interpersonal experience. Even if that was a law, I doubt it's ever being enforced. Even if it was a law that was often enforced (which again, ludicrous), that's still less of a freedom matter than freedom of expression or a right to keep/bear.

Still, I do want to also say that within my whole set of replies, if it's seeming as if I'm saying those other countries (In this case just the UK) don't have any freedoms at all, then that's definitely not it. They do have freedoms, and the West in particular has a great many that are super important, it's just that the degree of freedom isn't exactly the same from place to place.
Perhaps it is, perhaps it's just a custom in some places (maybe it was a random HR push for it in one company or something that was viewed a bunch). I would have to look into it if I wanted to know much. It would be very strange, and a big infringement on privacy, for almost no apparent reason. back in my day if i didn't like the song i switched to another one or simply turned the whole thing off, if you don't like something just do something that is creative and makes you happy. Regarding the new HP series, every publicity is publicity so it won't hurt it at all. Think of the time Umbridge decided to ban the Quibbler, it only made sure that everybody read it :) In all honesty, I hope such attacks won't come down hard on the kids and the rest of cast with this crap, hopefully by the time it airs this whole thing will have moved on as many other things do. I found this series at a point in my life where i didn’t have any friends and I wasn’t in the best shape mentally. It was giving me hope that if an orphan boy could find friends and do all these things, i could lead my own life that didn’t have those type struggles. This series lead me finding the best friend i could have ever had and still have now. Ive met so many nice ppl thru events around this series and all compliments on my cosplay really helped boost my self confidence and my mental state. It is a shame that people cant just ignore things if they don’t like them and instead be nasty.
It's astounding how a large section of these people on twitter liked Harry Potter for it's messaging a few years back. They are totally blind to how their recent behavior resembles the worst of the hate and the _othering_ that purebloods and death eaters did in the story.

Thank you, that's what I've been saying as well. Because I have never met so many kind people in the HP Fandom. When at a wizard wrock concert. I was only twelve at the time. They asked people who lost their loved ones to come up to the stage. My mom was shy and I went. They played an instrumental of Hedwig's theme and let us cry or hug and then sang with us a chant about letting go. As I lost my grandma that year and needed it. I've met so many awesome, sweet, and amazing people in the wizard wrock, anime, pride, renfest, art, disabled, and other. I could write a whole book.

Havn't done any events because I live too far away and don't like to travel, but I know from fanfiction alone that it's a great community full of good people. And of course the communities that form around youtube channels like this one, or the supercarlinbrothers, etc.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed the similarities but if one replaces JKR or Harry Potter with Jew or Jewish,doesn't it seem rather like the ramping up of 1920-30's Germany. If no one remembers what happened, crack open a history book and learn something. The outrageous opinions of a few and how it became crazy.
NOW I don't believe these 2 issues are the same in any way but the crazed, almost rabid demand that you're in or you're out smacks of narrow minded extremism that tends to overflow into more than a silly TV show.
Learn to separate the opinions from the product. This level of understanding comes with maturity. And it shows.
One thing that is just so frustrating about all of this for me personally, is just how nowadays people talk about how "horrible" Harry Potter is anyway, or bringing up wild accusations using poor reading comprehension of the source material. One example I've seen is people saying the books promote slavery because of the whole scenario with Hermione and the House Elves. When in reality the books are literally showing through Hermione how you can make mistakes and how to avoid them in advocating for change, and making sure you are listening to both sides and learning how to navigate them to enact that change. Literally in the books Sirius would have lived if he had listened to Hermione and respected Kreacher.
The HP series is full of beautiful and complex messages, and the fact that people handwave it all as "shitty writing" or make wild accusations just boils my blood.
This all reminds me so much again of growing up having to hide my interests so I don't get bullied for being a nerd.
I mean, what annoys me the most is that their "activism" is just on twitter, they don't stand outside Universal Studios, Harry Potter Tours or stores that actually bring in her revenue.

I honestly consider myself a trans ally always have and always will that said I am also a proud Ravenclaw and super excited to see a new interpretation of this series that I have loved my entire life. In my mind this doesn't have to be an either or situation. You can stand with trans people and still love Harry Potter. Now I will buy my merch second hand and bootleg from now on and try my best to minimize how much money I give to she who must not be named, but honestly I have always been a firm believer that you can despise a person and still love their work and you can stand with the people they have hurt and still indulge in your love for said work. It takes effort if you want to indulge while avoiding putting more money in their pockets but if your clever enough especially now and days there are ways.

I am so disgusted by what these people said especially the person condemning the kids who may be in the cast for “supporting” transphobia, which they are not doing at all. That kind of behavior is absolutely disgusting and the person who made that comment on twitter should be ashamed of themselves.
Rowling doesn't hate trans people. All she ever said was that women exist(which is an extreme point of view to some I suppose). She's very liberal, has donated large amounts of money to charity and has (unlike a lot of rich people) always paid her taxes. She's done far more good than these people that keep coming after her.
There's this narrative that she's obsessed with trans bashing when in reality she's under constant attack and occasionally responds by defending herself. She's broadly aligned politically with the people that attack her but because she doesn't agree with everything they say, they hate her. It's all very silly and the less attention and power we give to these people the better. They are damaging the image of the trans community (most of whome just want to live their lives peacefully) and are doing far more harm than Rowling even if she did say and do any of the things that they say she does (which she does not).

For a long time I have supported trans people and would openly stick up for the community. After the last year or so, it has turned so radical and extreme that I honestly don't want anything to do with it.

In Order of the Phoenix, Dolores Umbridge banned everyone in Hogwarts from reading Harry's interview to Rita Skeeter about Voldemort's return. And just like Hermione predicted, the ban ensured everyone actually read that interview! I think the same logic will apply here too. The more these hate groups get vocal and vile, the more it will spur the larger majority of people to actually watch and support this upcoming HBO Max show! I am from India and almost all people here support JK Rowling's views. We are definitely excited about watching this show.
