  • When Sheffield United were relegated on the final day of the season back in 1994, No-one would have believed that it would've been the start of a 12 year absence from the Top Flight. What followed was a period of mixed fortunes and uncertainty for the club as the Blades went through a succession of managers and went further and further into debt. In December 1999, the club turned to self confessed Sheffield United fan Neil Warnock in a bid to re-establish the Blades as a promotion challenger. At this time though with over £20 Million of debt, the priority was cutting costs and wages. But slowly, United regrouped going from strength to strength both on and off the field, Reaching the Semi Finals of the FA Cup, League Cup and the Division One Play Off Finals in 2003. 2004 and 05 saw Sheffield United narrowly miss out on a place in the play offs, finishing 8th in both seasons. Finally in April 2006, Neil Warnock's ultimate goal was achieved as Sheffield United secured their place back amongst the elite of English Football, The Premiership.
    This season review also features the memorable Derby Double over Wednesday where Alan Quinn made history in the Home fixture by becoming the first player to score for both Sheffield sides in the Steel city Derby.

    Warnock has a knack of putting together a bunch of misfits and getting the best out of them in the championship. They then get promoted and get hammered every week by proper opposition!

    What happened with Alan Quinn that season because he missed a lot of games after such a great start. Was it through injury he lost his place or was it that Warnock thought he couldn't hack it through the long hard season?? I know he brought in a lot of players that season but Quinner was a top player in that side I thought anyways.. He contributed a lot in that early part of the season but he ost his place and I never knew why. He was born in my home town of Clondalkin, actually Bawnoge was the parish he was born in and he came from a huge family of 16/17 kids .. His brother Stephen also went on to play for the Blades and had a decent career with Hull City aswell .. If u can will u let me know what happened with Alan Quinn that season because I would love to know why he ended up out of the team so often.. Was it because of injuries???

    Why are the away ends so much more packed these days compared to 20 years ago in the Championship? Hard to believe you can actually count how many Coventry and Leicester fans were there in the early part of the video, these days those two fanbases would sell that out in minutes.

    Paul Ifil was a more than handy winger. He popped up in NZ and was a real star in his latter days as a player in the A League in Australia.

    How many fucking strikers did Warnock need exactly?
    Let me count them;
    Webber
    Kabba
    Shipperley
    Andy Gray
    Bruce Dyer
    Akinbiyi
    Brian Deane
    There's probably more I missed. And they almost went off the rails when Warnock started arsing around with Akinbiyi and Bruce Dyer and Brian Deane, only getting it together again in the last few weeks when he let the 2 that had got them to the top 2, Webber and Shipperley, play.
