the best songs are always the simplest. the verse, chorus, everything just gets stuck in your head.
the 80s had some of the best music ever.

I saw Bryan Adams open for Journey on their Frontiers tour in 1983. STILL ranks as one of the best shows EVER. And yeah. I've seen a few.

Without doubt the 80s were the best! I was there and grew up through it. Born in 1970.simply awesome honest less complicated times, without all the brain washing and everyone stuck to screen's now! Atb

You know, this remains my favorite song by Adams. Before watching your video, I couldn't really put my finger on why I liked this track so much (possessing such a simple structure, chords, and melody), but now I know: not only is it extremely well-written as you say, but every aspect and subtle detail of the composition meshes so well with each other. The bass, the two guitars, the drums, and vocals are seamlessly integrated into this one great piece of music. You need a band at the top of their game and completely in sync with each other to really pull this off.

Hasan Tawab Hey Hasan, totally agree with your comment bud. The production and the band on that record were really really great, Bob Clearmountain has a great mind for music and hits. cheers

That whole album is great! I own three of the them, one in the house, one in my pickup, and one in my Harley! I saw him a couple years ago in Yuba CityCalifornia, they were beyond great! This is my favorite of his songs, but they are all good! Simple lyrics, great chords, and he has great charisma with the crowd!

    • @ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials

Yeah, such a great riff. I read that BA and Jim Vallance had offered this song to Blue Oyster Cult as it is similar to Don't Fear the Reaper, but they turned it down. I never thought of that comparison until I read that, but now I can see how it was influenced by that song. Cheers, Andy.

God Bless you for this!! haha. I'm a guitarist and a HUGE Adams fan. I want to play stuff exactly like he does, and there is one spot in the chorus that I'd seen him play live, but could never figure out what he was doing! No sheet music ever accurately described it either...but you just did. You have NO idea how much that had been bugging me haha. That little B7 riff right before the chorus. You're the man. Thanks!

This is one of the best tutorials I have seen.... You make so many excellent points, especially about what people want ot hear and to help them access their feelings with what the songs says and how it is executed.. Your ego is completely out of the way... Many people will likely go back in their mind to that time in the eighties when this song was so popular... If you want some inspiration, go watch Bryan Adams and his band play this song Live at Leeds in 2014. Bryan Adams can still stand and deliver with the best of them.... His acoustic version of this song is particularly powerful.... Thanks again for putting such quality info up

Carl Patterson Hey Carl, thanks for that very insightful comment. 99% of listeners don't know or care about the technical side of music, they just want to feel something, this is what a lot of musicians tend to forget about and why guys like BB King sell more records than guys who can shred. Shred says, "Look at what I can do!" and a guy like BB says, "Do you feel what I feel?" Just my take on it. cheers

      @ShutupAndPlayGuitarTutorials  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
Well, I have a different take on this. To me Run To You is a very good pop song. The strength of it for me has a lot to do with how it's arranged, produced and played by the band. The lyrics although clever are not deep in any way and have no lasting significance. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I really don't like when artists play songs like this all stripped down, almost like it's such an epic and important song that it doesn't need the band. There's only 3 guys that I can handle doing that and that's Bruce Springsteen, Bruce Cockburn and Bob Dylan. Their songs have SO much depth and impact they stand on there own easily. These guys are the poets of our generation who have something to say. Although BA is a great pop writer, his tunes are pure ear candy and have no real depth. But he does sell a TON of records, and you can make a LOT more money touring if you don't have to pay the band and move all the gear around the country !Just my take bro.

I agree with you on the amount of notes played. I'm not a great player, but it doesn't impress me to be a fast note picker and to be able to cram all the notes into a measure that one can. It prove's nothing. I myself like the music to be clean and not noisey. For myself, "Run To You" is how I like to play and sound. Thanks for the lessons, they help a lot.

Bang on, especially about Keith Scott, amazingly talented guy! And, for those of you who can't see (hear) it, it's your loss, musically speaking.

MrTrazzie I grew up in the same home town as Keith and the cover bands I played in played some of the the same venues as Keith's band. I ran in to him a few times on the road. He was a real standout guitarist even back then. He deserves all the success he's attained even if he's tragically overlooked by the guitar community. He's a pretty reserved dude, extremely humble and easy going as well as being a great player. cheers

This is the best tutorial. I’ve come back to it over and over. I’m having trouble with my one-finger A chord. The high E string keeps sneaking into the chord. How do you strum without touching it, or mute it with your index finger, etc?

You only have this guitar? You should own more, you definitely deserve to treat yourself, because you're a very good guitarist. I'm kinda the type that learned for a long time, the "old way" (like Mick Ralphs, except I had tablature books!) and it takes me a lot to congratulate other guitarists, but you I congratulate, YOU SERIOSULY ROCK! And you know your stuff, too. It shows when guitarist doesn't rely on pedals and shit like that to get the sounds. Like when you said, it's clean, but it's got a bit of dirt, so I just use the dirty channel and turn my guitar volume down. YES!

Growing up in Vancouver, this WAS the sound of the city. I met Bryan Adams (Actually drove his car once doing valet at a restaurant called Villa de Lupo) He was really nice, not with the high and mighty attitude some celebrities get.
