He's already clearing doors while wide swinging (making himself hard to hit through movement) and uses his footsteps to force the opponent to peak him since the blue box isn't cleared yet. He didn't need to check pit either cause if the enemy was there, he'd be dead by the sound of his footsteps wideswinging door.
