That whole "Colors of the Wind" song and sequence is sooooooooooooo beautiful. And "Fluke" has me crying my ass off everytime I watch it. Although no dog movie (or any movie) made me cry as much as "Hachi" with Richard Gere.
In regards to 'Fluke,' it's rare to see Roger on the show reviewing a film that he never reviewed in writing. Or, at the very least, the review never made onto his site. If he did write a review, that in fact would be quite a fluke.
Congo is fantastic. It's on Netflix now, I just rewatched it last night. Personally, I think the movie holds up incredibly well And the FX are awesome! Great costume FX, fantastic set design. And the humor isn't "elbow jabbing" at all. Congo is just all around a fun movie to watch
"Congo" is not to be taken seriously and is obviously a tribute to B Movies of years gone by. But the gorilla reunion at the end is genuinely very lovely.
Roger and Gene were both right on Congo. It’s fantastically awful. There was obviously some pretense at one point for a Spielberg or Cameron level action thriller, but it was much smarter to cut their losses and go for a campy 50s exotic adventure film. Ernie Hudson was obviously doing a riff on a Clark Gable type or Stewart Granger’s Allan Quatermain. There’s no way Tim Curry took that accent seriously. This was the start of Laura Linney’s career, and she’s in the tradition of Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor. And at the center of it all, Amy the homesick talking gorilla and that stupid fucking vocal effect. Unfortunately, someone neglected to inform the marketing department. They promoted it as a serious adaptation of a Crichton work, obviously trying to take advantage of Jurassic Park’s success.
1995 was a big summer for hit movies. Bad Boys, Apollo 13, Braveheart, Casper, Batman Forever, Pocahontas, Power Rangers, and Free Willy 2. Judge Dredd, and Waterworld, not so much. But 1995 was overall a really good summer movie season.
Gene was a little hoity toity with his opinions at times. I realize he was a critic but appreciating a film for what it’s trying to be is also perfectly understandable. In the case of Congo it’s just meant to be a fun campy movie, and it works really well.
Their rebuttal to Bob Dole's publicity-stunt comment on cinema makes me sad: Roger and Gene believe they're still living in an America where politicians should at least pretend to build bridges and appeal to a broad cross-section of the people. Their observations on America's gun merchants were made years prior to the massacres at Columbine high school. They address their message to the world depicted in _Forrest Gump,_ when it's now clear we were already sliding rapidly into the world of 2018's _Vice._
Roger is dead on with Pocahontas. Good film with great music, but boring villain and secondary characters, and the least great of the 5 Disney films mentioned.
"WHAT?! CLARK GABLE?!" That's my favorite Siskel quote.
May they rest in peace, these two men met a very dark and depressing demise.
I thought I heard it all!
Why is there Super Mario World music playing, lol?
Oh good, I thought I was losing my mind
Why the hell is the Super Mario World bonus level music playing?
He ripped the footage from another video called "Funny Moments With Siskel & Ebert"

0:47 - Roger Ebert: Master troll
Squash the goomba Ebert and save Princess Siskel!
When I read your comment, I imagined a balding princess Peach with an awful combover 😂
Congo is fun. I think that’s all that Ebert was getting at.

I agree with you guys
It's fucking awful. I saw it in the theater, it was like a prank.
@@danwroy Well, this is America. So you do have the right to be wrong if you choose to

Fluke was so freaking sad
00:53 "What?!" . . "Clark Gable?" . . :).
I thought I heard it all!
Pocohontas taught me that bears procreate

Other than Apollo 13 and Braveheart, they all stunk.
I like Congo, Pocahontas, and The Glass Shield.

Tim Curry is so delightful in Congo. Siskel got that wrong at least.
"I laughed AT it, not WITH it."
Is it too much to do both, Gene? I'm with Roger, Congo is a comedic pulp adventure delight.
I found you!
@@MarkyMatey Yep! Bound to bump into each other when we cover the same set of interests. lol
Siskel went 👍 & Ebert 👎 on “The Glass Shield”
Pocahontas & Fluke 👍 🌟🌟🌟🌟
What's up with the music? Is that Mario Kart?
The Glass Shield got two thumbs down.
another classic lapse in judgment from ebert on congo
Agree with ebert its ment to be bad.
LOOOVE THE ATTACK ON BOB DOLE HERE LOL ❤❤❤❤❤
Bc it's funny
0:58 Roger's on crack

I’ll always associate Congo with Taco Bell.
Ebert's right its an awful movie.... but it's a fun awful movie, like an old b movie
As much as I would like to agree with Ebert, I'm pretty sure that Congo was unintentionally funny
Mamma mia! Someone turn off the Mario music! It is so distracting! 🍄
Regardless of your politics, Gene and Roger are (of course) spot on in their criticisms of how hypocritical Dole was.

congo was fun worse chricton film like sun said? no sphere n time line
I was annoyed by that clip of The Glass Shield. Notice how that black cop is talking. He isn't talking "black" so that must mean he is a traitor.
Congo has some of the worst acting in a movie that I have ever seen. I thought it was awful.
Stop eating my sesame cake, sir!
