- Return to Geyser Gulch! My original smoke-unit-from-vape-pen stopped working, so I'm replacing it with a more robust and deluxe version. Step by step as I test, install, and wire up the new unit and get it working on the layout.

Very cool 😎 improvement Dave! Looks awesome when it just shoots a puff of vape smoke.
Also the remote location for the vape unit is a great possibility of this very contraption.
One remark, humbly think a small piece of capped pvc pipe, maybe cut open by halfway would have been a great idea. This would allow even better for easy refilling.

Nice improvement. We bought at my job the previous model, it was a cheap and easy way to test fumes extraction from an instrument.
That was so cool to see how you did that and it looks like a great upgrade too. That test was smoking 😂😂

I have, and may do that yet. That'll be the next upgrade.
@@ThunderMesaStudio That would be a neat effect but takes away the "interaction" for visitors, although you could still have the push button. The surprise element would be missing though, if they hade already seen the geyser in operation.😁
There is a company in England, I think TRS, that is doing steam for locomotives that uses distilled water to produce steam.
Vape pens usually have replaceable heater coils. That's probably the reason it quit working. I used to vape. W Rusty Lane K9POW in eastern Tennessee
Fun idea, but that waper will probably cause more issues then you want. I repair comuters and gamingconsoles, and the wape fluid is an olied based compond that sticks to everything and build up thick layers of dirt in the end. Fans inside computers simply stop working and the electronics bearly get cleaned in ultrasonic cleaner. So be carefull with the use of it on your layout. The old "pen" if you havent, take it apart and look inside it, I bet it´s jamed up of the oil clogging up inside the tubing. Stoped the motor from running and it burned out, just like inside a gamingconsole I just repaired for a client who use waping inside his gamingroom.

Just found this. Nifty. Have you considered some sort of circuit that fires the smoke for a set amount of time for each push? There are several options, depending if you like to program or just connect wires.

Would a smoke unit from a steam locomotive work for this effect? And would it be more durable? Also it could be run off track or accessory power if it would work.
You could try it. My experiments with them produced a disappointingly small amount of smoke.
