Extended rear facing is the best way to go, a minimum of four years

its the ideal but not always practical or financially viable for some, though I have my 2 3 yr olds forward facing, my toddler rearfacing and my oldest is -finally- out of a booster

From what age children can sit on a "cusion" and use the regular seat belt?

8 or when they're legs fold over the seat cushion, they can sit straight without slouching, belt fits across the lap and on the shoulder and they can be trusted NOT to mess about in the car

WARNING! Don't buy the Halfords "Essential" car seat. The padding is wafer thin. Just a light tap with your hand and you can feel the hard plastics. The worst section of all is the join between the base and the back, right at your child's coccyx. Any amount of time spent travelling in this seat without additional padding is going to leave your little ones bruised and battered, if not worse. If they made adult seats as poorly as this, it would be an instant factory recall. Why would any designer with a shred of decency think this is fit for use?

It meets the minimum safety requirements, but I always recommended people not to buy it as half the time they brought it back in anyway. It's designed more for occasional use and very short journeys
