This song is so emotional for me. Im 15 now. In 2009 me, my mom, my cousin(my best friend), his sister and parrents went to the US for the first time. I couldnt sleep on the plane, so i listend to this song, hoping it would help me sleep.

This song makes me melt because it brings back the memory of graduating from my career center. I drove home from it in tears because I knew I would never see some of my 19 classmates (who became my family over two years) ever again. This was the first song that came on when I pulled away and waved them goodbye. It was such a bittersweet dive. I don't miss high school, but damn, I miss that career center, my professor, and all my fellow students. My family for two straight years suddenly gone, but my memories of them were always so happy. This song reminds me of all that. It's kind of a roller coaster of emotions whenever I hear this.

I love the meaning behind this song!!! It's so true, to be a dancer is to follow the crowd and to try and fit into society by being like others, that's why the song says cut the cord, like a dancer is a puppet being controlled and to cut the cord means to cut the strings and become human/become your own person and be yourself and don't follow the crowd :)

I’ve listened to the song a few times without actually contemplating the lyrics, it’s insane and it instantly makes it a better experience.
It actually is dancer. I looked it up when the song first came out, and he's basically asking if we're humans who can think and decide for themselves or dancers who just go through already choreographed motions. It questions the notion of pre-determined destiny, that if one's fate is already decided, does one not get a say in how one's life is going to be?

First of -- the band, the people who wrote the song with their own hands, confirmed that it's "dancer". And secondly, I think the grammatical thing is on purpose. When we attribute a person this trait, we say that he/she is "human". We are human. Our nature is human. We don't say that our nature is "humans". Same goes for "dancer" -- it's been turned into an attribute, a defining term for nature. In a world where we say goodbye to everything that makes us, are we free or are we playing along to "certain steps and choreography"? What's our nature? Is it human or is it dancer?
Gave out my humble interpretation for those who think that "dancer" doesn't make any sense. I get the "denser" bit too, but don't say something doesn't "make sense" just because it's suddenly not what you thought it was. Try to rethink it again, what's the harm in interpreting a song different ways, seriously?

Tulpa here, I get it. I think it makes sense. I just feel like it comes off as implying dance isn't human, which to most people is dehumanizing. I think that's probably just lack of awareness, though. Either way, I like the implication given by 'denser' because it makes the song so powerful as a means of figuring out the true connotation of 'human'. Not only does it pose the question in an engaging way, it also leaves it's answer open ended. No two people are the same, so their answers will likely vary. This way, it lets each person come to their own answers. It's like a call to self discovery.
A shorter explanation would have been: It's "human" the adjective. Not "human" the noun. ;)

Personally, I think Denser would imply stupidity or lack of awareness.
I also think Dancer is a better choice because it implicate that we live our lives on predetermined steps, like choreography. "Cut the Cord" supports that something external is driving our direction, like a puppeteer.

Just did Magic Mushrooms last night... I decided this was a good choice of song to start my new perspective on life.
Lyrics are a form of poetry in a sense, and words mean different things to different people. So whether Brandon intended it to be dancer, or denser, it doesn't matter :) Whatever word makes more sense to you, or touches your heart more, that's all that matters. :)
