Centuries ago, the Ant used to turn east below Ludham bridge and flow to the east on waht is now the Thurne, and empty into the sea to the east of Martham Broad. If you look on google satelite view, you can still make out the course of what used to be called "the old hundred stream".
Thanks Dave, for taking us along on that lovely cruise and walk, I noticed that you didn't get put on the naughty step for twice mentioning the word "dy-e", lol. The weather changed for the best from miserable to absolutely beautiful, (Turned out nice again, 'an't it?). Take care and all the best. Stevie
Hi Stevie, I'm still not sure if it is the word Dyke or Cockshoot that started the fuss on Facebook. Other than the following Saturday we had some glorious sunshine.
Hi Dave, When did those moorings at Acle get withdrawn? I know Pedro’s closed some time ago and the moorings were managed by the restaurant and so probably it’s linked to that?
@@petermountford3614 Hi Peter, it must have happened recently as they were open in June. There is supposed to be a big redevelopment but when that is I don't know.
The basin in front of Pedro’s and moorings along the river used to be Horizon Craft’s yard and are still owned by Richardsons. They were open for mooring until earlier this year, with a fee payable. I understand that the moorings are in a poor state of repair and someone fell over them whilst moored there and tried to lodge a claim with the owners. As a result, no mooring signs have been erected to dissuade folk from mooring there. Some still do, though. As Dave mentioned, there is a planning application in to redevelop the site into a private marina, with some public mooring spaces.
@@Malco1805 Thanks for the info Malc. I moored there last year, it was after five and nobody collected the mooring fee. Whilst walking the length of the mooring I noticed what a bad state they were in. When we were cruising along looking for a mooring I was annoyed at all the small gaps left between moored boats but on closer inspection loose and missing mooring posts meant boats couldn't really close the gaps.
Great walk and a fantastic Broads sunset! Love your channel. Thanks Dave. 🍻
Thank you!
Hooray!👍👍

Hi Neil, every day is a school day thanks for the info.

Thanks Dave - interesting to see what eventually happens 👍🏻

Thanks for clarifying 👍🏻
