Inverted rows & laying down doing a cable row on your back helped me teach some of my clients with their shoulder retraction because you can kinda exagerate the movement
Hi @muzyka3151 how are you yes you can feel the upper traps engaged especially if your new to this form and technique change but there are other exercises you can also add to build more mind to muscle connection
@@Nalleee I prefer to keep my shoulders retracted just to make sure that I’m not protracting or rounding my shoulders pressing down, which wouldn’t be proper, correct
Hi champ keeping your back arched and shoulders retracted is always best for proper form and I wouldn’t protract and then retract as it’s not Natural great ? Keep them Coming
@@Dimitri.Giankoulasabsolute nonsense… you need to let your shoulders protract forward during the eccentric to properly stretch the lats then your retract them during the concentric. Someone needs a bio mechanics class
@@GeorgeMcDougall-gz4tp hi George Mcdougal you should be more mindful and respective of people giving tips out there especially when they are certified coaches and have been doing this for years. When someone is rowing they retract their shoulders to ensure they actually row and are using their inner back traps ect and their lats. I was not talking about any concentric phases I was showing that when people are releasing the weights and they over rotate the shoulders that’s not right so thanks but no thanks for your advice. Hope you enjoy your biomechanical education
Just because using the rhomboids doesn't mean it's not targeting the lats. Retracting and holding during the row givea a better foundation for the lats to pull from and thereby works the lats better, without having your scap retracted the row is forced to come from the biceps more

Here to help serve you
is it normal to feel upper traps when retracting the scapula?
Hi @muzyka3151 how are you yes you can feel the upper traps engaged especially if your new to this form and technique change but there are other exercises you can also add to build more mind to muscle connection
Should the shoulders be retracted during the entire movement or only when you are pulling the weight towards you?

Should I hold scapula retraction through out my set or protract and then retract with each rep? Great video!

you should allow for natural scapula retraction
That’s not something that people who sit behind desks know how to do Dareal not people who have rounded shoulders that’s why they need to learn this
Dont retract them extensively since you wanna target the lats not the rhomboids when rowing.
