Donald Stratton wrote a book, available from Amazon, entitled, "All The Gallant Men" in which he details what happened aboard the Arizona on December 7, 1941. He was medically discharged having suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 65% of his body. He went home to Nebraska to heal then reenlisted in the Navy, passed boot camp for the 2nd time and was assigned to the USS Stack, a destroyer and was present in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945 to witness the surrender. He was one of the only men who were present the day of the attack when the war started and the day it ended. It's a fantastic story of guts and determination. He passed away and rejoined his shipmates on February 15, 2020 at 97 y/o.
My relative was a marine assigned to the Arizona,he spent the last month of his life on the Gunnery ship Utah, The Arizona was moving Mack to the West coast on the 8th of December so she was fully fueled and provisioned for sea . He was assigned to an anti-aircraft gun which was at the apex of the explosion, and he was incinerated at his battle station ! May he R.I.P. eternally !
It is a shame no one had knew what to do with the communication sent from the USS Ward that morning that she fired on then did a depth charge run on a unknown sub sneaking into the mouth of the harbor.... Also a shame that HQ got a call from the new Army radar station that picked up the IJN flight coming in from the North West, and they dismissed it as a flight of B-17's from the mainland that would come in from the North East... Tho with the fleet in the harbor there was more folks saved form the water then if they would have gotten put to sea tho I doubt the boilers would have had enough time to get to a point where they could be under way but would have given the AA guys time to get ammo and to stations with some air craft in the air other then the 2 or 3 fighters that did make it while the attack was going.... Few remember the USS Ward and her crew got the first kill in of the war with sinking one of 5 or 6 IJN mini subs that was sneaking in for there part of the attack....
Rear Admiral Issac C. Kidd was another casualty of the Pearl Harbor attack, the Arizona was his flagship. Later when the first USS Kidd was named in his honor, the crew asked his widow if they could fly the skull and crossbones flag in reference to the pirate Kidd. She gave them permission and USS Kidds today still honor that agreement.
Every navy boat that went down in pearl harbor will never be used as a boat name again. The respect and reverence atmosphere at pearl harbor is so strong, it's like no other place on earth. God bless these men an women 🙏 y'all truly are the greatest generation and God do we need y'all so bad right now because your kids are destroying our great nation 😢😢😢 y'all have answered the call I just wish my generation was more concerned with loving their country instead of burning the flag an replacing it with terrorists flags and worrying about what they get called wether it be him her or it you just can't please them it's mental and truly horrifying to think of the consequences that none of them can see but those of us with our eyes open see it we see it plain as day.....thank you brave men an women for allowing me to spend the first 15-20 years of my life enjoying the freedom and peace of mind your generation paid for with life and limb and mind y'all's sacrifice will never go unappreciated in my home an if it isn't appreciated in my home they will swiftly get thrown out of my home rest in peace you wonderfully great Americans I hope your examples live on through the centuries like the Spartan warriors who held the hot gates or the Roman legion airs y'all deserve noless and much much more
Who put German fighter Fw190 it’s 0:43 ? Yeah proper knowledge about ww2….
Thats a Japanese plane dumbass
Its actual footage from the attack, are you stupid?
This event occurred before former President Obama and I were born. Diplomatic relations have evolved in 80 years. I am a USN man till the day I die. Served proudly. 2000-2005. I don’t buy Toyota or Honda. This war was fought and won by my grandfather and yours in a time when politics took a back seat to WINNING . Don’t bring current politics into your rant.
The starter for jets me 262
Hickam Air Force Base - evidence of the attack is obvious
Sloppy footage. No Essex class carriers, no Avenger Aircraft no duel 5"/38 turrets. American fighter jets?
Vote the democrats out or this is going to happen again. TRUMP/VANCE 2024!!!!!
Opala.......
Yeah it was just a total surprise. No one saw the entire Japanese fleet crossing the pacific. Mmmmk u say so. Bs
The technology of 1941 was not what it is today radar was in its infancy and only worked for short distances without a visual sighting you knew nothing of whats crossing the ocean and last time I checked the Pacific Ocean is 63,800,000 square miles.
@@jeffreymiller6847 American arrogance let the jap attack happen, we / they had the data but ignored it
They traveled through the North Pacific ,even today nobody goes there.
Exactly. The US government knew they where coming and let it happen , they needed the shock value to convince the public to enter the war .
The Americans were not paying attention to their satellite monitoring screens.
Amazing how many obvious MAGATS felt compelled to make irrelevant comments here. I really wish you would stick to political posts on other sites
1st….😊
Well, you finally made to first grade. About time?
Bearly any of our Hero's are still living,
Oh gee, stealing somebody else’s documentary; that’s incredibly lame
Japan surprised attacked us and they got theirs in the end.
