  • 4K HDR China street night walk in Summer 2023 at Shibati Eighteen Stairs or 18th Ladder (十八梯) Tourist Attraction in Downtown Chongqing City's Yuzhong Peninsula.
The Eighteen Stairs, once a street in Yuzhong Peninsula of Chongqing, symbolizes the real mountain city of old Chongqing. In 2015, the Shibati area began to be demolished, and today's Shibati area is full of ruins.
There are two pedestrian streets in the Yuzhong Peninsula of Chongqing, one is "Jiefangbei", the first street in the west of China, and the other is not far from Jiefangbei, called "Eighteen Stairs". At Jiefangbei, you can appreciate the prosperity of the modern city; while at Shibati, you can appreciate the real mountain city and old Chongqing.
The old Chongqing city is divided into the upper half city and the lower half city. Eighteen Stairs is located at Jiaochangkou, Yuzhong District. It is an old street leading from the upper half city (top of the mountain) to the lower half city (foot of the mountain). This old street is all paved with stone steps, steep and curved, connecting the bustling commercial area on the top of the mountain with the old city by the river below the mountain.
There are a large number of ordinary people living around the old street, and the street exudes a strong atmosphere of the city. Those who clean ears, do pedicures, do carpentry, do tailors, sell biscuits, sell needles and threads, play mahjong, and the stick-stick soldiers who are absolutely indispensable in the mountain city are scattered everywhere, and there are even dogs and cats. Dozed off on the ground. Eighteen Ladders is a true portrayal of the life of old Chongqing citizens. The origin of the Eighteen Stairs is probably in the Ming Dynasty. There used to be a well here, and the nearby residents drank the water from this well. This well is just eighteen steps away from the residence of the residents. It is called "Eighteen Ladders".
