It's a shame that this instrument isn't used more often in bluegrass and folk jams any more. I think it's got a really pretty and unique sound. If only it was loud enough to compete with the banjos, mandolins, and guitars. This cover is just fantastic. Reaffirms why I've always liked the mountain dulcimer.
The dulcimer is such a beautiful instrument. I never realised how tiny it is too. It gives everything a medieval touch somehow. This was lovely anyhow.
And here I am 9 years later listening to this. Ive been in the exact spot you guys were playing at many times. I wish I could have seen you play this then.
Some of the best Dulcimers made were done by my uncle, James Miracle formerly of Middlesboro Ky and if you were lucky, you could watch my Aunt Janice play at the main building at Cumberland Gap National Park. I can play, but my aunt made music.
I found one in a landfill in its case like brand-new I looked up the serial number and found the exact model. I played with it a few times but I have big fat fingers 🤌 I think it's a pretty difficult instrument to learn & Play you treat one side like a piano and you treat the other side like a guitar. Anyway the exact same model that I found online in fine or perfect shape. Mine fit both of those criteria. Worth about two hundred dollars.
Hey. I just started learning to play. A friend has let me try on one of hers. I have tiny hands. I can do the different cords. But I don't have to. I can play simple songs. I can learn different strumming and just do one cord or note at a time. Watch different videos as there are several styles. Pick a easy one and just play for you. I do.... and I find much fun and satisfying time just for me....
Hi! I’m so glad you like it. Tim does in fact have CDs, but he doesn’t have a website right now. However, he sells them wherever he performs. If you are in the East Tennessee area you may be able to see him in person. Otherwise, you can try contacting him. I think there is some contact information in the description.
I am so glad that you liked it. Yes, the tabs are available from Tim Simek, the man in the video. He can be contacted at Smokey Mountain Dulcimer, 1-865-436-5211. If Tim doesn't answer, Mark can help you out as well. Thanks for watching!
This is beautiful! I would love to learn to play the dulcimer. I’ve been looking into them and also instructional videos on learning how to play one. I’ve read they are easy to learn how to play.
Thank you for letting me now. I let Tim know and he told me that he had it taken down last week for an update. Hopefully it will be back soon! In the meantime, you may email Tim at timsimek823 at gmail.com
There are a few people out there trying to make music for more modern songs to play on dulcimer. My mom is part of a small group that sometimes tabs out music. But they’re really small group. I maybe suggest looking for sheet music from Bing Futch. He I think actually got a contract with Disney to officially create sheet music for dulcimer for Disney songs for example. But, yeah, it’s a struggle. A lot of us younger new players really want to play songs we like but to be honest the traditional dulcimer people don’t seem to understand and not many write down the sheet music. I really wish they would. It’s actually pretty important. If there was more sheet music more people would pick up the dulcimer and learn it. Anyways I’ll see if I can put this song on my list as one to ask my group to create sheet music for.

An electronic pickup would cure that in a second.
Have you heard of Bing Futch? He rocks a dulcimer, and won a blues competition with one.

That is one sweet-sounding dulcimer!
That's beautiful. I'm just discovering the dulcimer. Slowly learning to play.
And here I am 9 years later listening to this. Ive been in the exact spot you guys were playing at many times. I wish I could have seen you play this then.

I love it. Sounds great.
Agreed!
wonderful played. Thank you. You are great.
Good playing from Roland (I played a Black Forst Epinett - Hexenscheit)
Tim is very good. You're welcome. :-)
Wow! Just WOW!
Lovely. Reminds me of a night at the Bright Star, Peters Green, England.
This is fantastic
Acoustic electric dulcimer? Wow haha awesome video
The most beautiful version of Sounds of Silence I've ever heard!
Could I possibly borrow or buy the tabs from you? I'd love to play it!
I am so glad that you liked it. Yes, the tabs are available from Tim Simek, the man in the video. He can be contacted at Smokey Mountain Dulcimer, 1-865-436-5211.
If Tim doesn't answer, Mark can help you out as well.
Thanks for watching!
Love it!
Wow
Some music belongs with certain instruments. Wonder what the theme from Last of the Mohicans would sound like? The search is on!
Check out Bing Futch's version - it's fantastic!
Eat your heart out Jungo, dude had a quilt.
12 points!!!
this is beautiful. I'd love to learn to play it. Sounds like you have it amplified and maybe a bit of reverb or something?
this is awesome, is there a tutorial for this?!?!?
Tim does have a few instructional DVDs available. Check out www.timsimek.com.

I'd like to hear it unaccompanied by the guitar
Wonder what it’s tuned to?
It almost sounds like Moonlight Shadow by Mike Oldfield.
Has to be Gatlinburg, judging by the trash storefronts behind them.
Wow. Leave it to a dulcimer to make a god damned camcorder microphone listenable.
Hahahahahaha. Well there's not much low end to capture from a dulcimer. :D
that's far too beautiful...
Did your shop survive the terrible fires? Hope you're all okay.
You'll have to ask Mark at smokymtn.dulcimers@gmail.com. I didn't hear of any damage out that way, though, and I hope it's because there wasn't.
Let’s get some pickups on that thing
Is there sheet music or a tab for this? Just starting to play my dulcimer again and this sounds amazing!
Probably somewhere. If you ask Mark at smokymtn.dulcimers@gmail.com, or get in touch with Tim through www.timsimek.com, one of them can help you.
Edward Goodman Thank ya much!
Mr. Simek's website has been suspended. :( 2020-04-18
Thank you for letting me now. I let Tim know and he told me that he had it taken down last week for an update. Hopefully it will be back soon! In the meantime, you may email Tim at timsimek823 at gmail.com

Where could I find the dulcimer sheet music to learn this?
I don’t know. Tim doesn’t use music.

Add drums into the band
No
I saw Dora in the background
Thank you. Great plucking and picking.
what are you using as a pic?
You'll have to ask Tim (www.timsimek.com) or Mark (865-436-5211). I just run the camera :-)
The link doesn't work.
That's funny... I just texted Tim to see what's up. I'll follow up.
Website's back up. :-)
