Not sure if it was your intention but I perceived this as Baizhu wanting immortality not only to overcome his illness, but because he wants to keep Qiqi company for as long as she's willing to live. And he took drastic measures making a pact with a demon due to his illness and not having enough time for a concrete plan. Not to say, Baizhu's goal to save as many people as possible
i'm pretty sure it was said in his story quest that he wants immortality so that nobody has to make a contract with Chengsheng (i think that was her name?)
He also don't want others to take the contract and he want an immortality because he wants a infinite lifespan so he can heal people from their sickness

For some reason my brain perceives Baizhu as a sinister figure and I have no idea why, it just decided to look at him and go “he’s up to no good”. And now it won’t shut up and let me enjoy him an Qiqi (+the front desk guy) somehow operating a pharmacy in peace
I just think it's so funny that the entire fandom is suspicious of Baizhu and then there's the story quest that straight up declared the he's a selfless person with a pure heart 😭
