I'm 15, just received my skates through mail and me and some friends are currently working with the local team to set up an under 18's roller derby team. We're looking to start practice in a few weeks now! Can't wait!!
I actually love roller derby. It's crazy because when watching it on youtube it looks like nothing, but when watching it live people are really into it. Not to mention the hits are CRAZY.
My mom is just starting roller derby this year, she is very good.. When she did her laps she did 25 in a shorter time than the coach. Also her first bout is on December 12th, so excited! the coach is deciding to start to train her to be a jammer and I am so proud of her!
That looks mint, and although I'm male and would love a cracking at it I genuinely think there would be something lacking if guys were to start doing it in large numbers. Im proud that there is such an individual sport that is competitive but not corrupted by sponsorship, egos and fellas. Love it!!
I'd love to try this sport, I'm still in high school at the moment. But I have this urge for it kinda like I did when I wanted to try out for wrestling. Being a 5ft 106 pound girl on a high school wrestling team (nothing but guys, and 40 pounds heavier than me) is the best & toughest experience in my life so far. Hopefully derby will be the same.
How do I know if I should join in on roller derby?I really want to but at the same time, i still question myself. I like to know a lot about it and think hard about things before I do them.
OMG I love this footage (two reasons) 1. It's a very good representation of Roller Derby 2. It had my team in it Manchester Roller Derby Well done Sam, big thumbs up :D BitchonabrooM MRD x
Contact your local team and say you're interested in setting up a junior/under 18's team! That's what I did at the start of the year and me and a few friends are going and watching their practices every week and every joining in now and then! Once we've got enough interest, the team are ecstatic about having one of the very few junior teams in the UK!
Amused by all the emasculated men who have to show how hard they are by being homophobic and misogynistic. Dudes if you were true men you'd be happy with your sexuality and not need to comment...
Depends where you live really. I know that junior/under 18's teams exist out here in the UK, you just have to find one! It's not limited to over 18's only.
i'm learning to play for the hamilton new zealand derby team the "Hellmiton Roller Ghouls." its true what these ladys and men say. you do feel free to express your true self you become more confident. i'm still at high school .... lol i'm one of them goodish quiet one but once i get my skates on i'm loud, strong, still caring (only 4 my team of course =D), can take some really good falls. i've been taken out by other skaters. b4 i would've sat there moping but now i'm up almost as soon as i hit d
Just do it. you'll do fresh meat at first, where they teach you the skills to play. you'll get a feel for it and whether it's something you'll enjoy as you go along.
@ jerry. Violence does sell but it is not like wrestling. Maybe if you got track and took a hit you would have a different point of view. Don't knock something that is real unless you have been hit and play. other than that you are ignorant
Lighten up. and your remark about adjectives not being insults makes no sense, just because it's an adjective doesn't mean it can't be used as an insult. The comparison is futile.
Where are all the elbows, clotheslines, and women being thrown over the rail to the floor. Violence sells. Maybe if you tried some, you'd sell out arenas instead of gyms.

underrated sport, sadly. Saw it first in the movie 'Whip it'
this isn't roller derby, the movie at least somewhat showed roller derby how it should be. this shit is whack though.
Well it's shit living in America as nobody knows what Lacrosse or Rugby is
LOVE it. Thanks for letting us be a part of this. Anyone thinking about starting roller derby should definitely watch, and everyone else too!
great video! this has been a deciding factor in whether I wanted to try derby! I definitely want to!! Thanks for the great info.
I just started on a roller derby team and I love it. Now my daughter is doing it too!!!
Very informative! You guys did a great job putting all the pieces together of who, what and why Roller Derby!

Awesome sport! Never seen it before. I hope my town gets a team so i can go watch. Some of the girls in this were stunning too!
Aw, this footage is so old it still has two-whistle starts in it. Bless.
Thanks for the video. I'm thinking of becoming a roller derby referee. This was a nice insight into what I'm signing up for :)
Nice job on the video. Thanks for sharing.

Why the flat track?
just search for roller derby in NY. . . . there are several teams all over the state!!!
When did the tripods start to appear? Was that due to a rule change?

I like it, generally, but I do wish the banked tracks could be brought back.
Lighten up.

Oh, I sense that some pretty roller girl told you ''In your dreams'' haha...
Roller Derby started in the 1930's - that 'Black Dahlia' clearly doesn't know what she's talking about.

I've never seen so many lesbians in one room.
I'm kidding. Please don't kill me.
The circuits seem pretty small compared to the 50's, I guess there are no purpose built ones nowdays.

weird way to make a sandwich
This is not real Roller Derby...Real Roller Derby is skated on a banked track.
and they beat the piss out of each other. this shit is fucking lame wannabe derby.
Looks like a tamed down version of Roller Hockey.
black dahlia? really? :O
No. This is stroller derby.
This is ridiculous. Some future truckers in this video.
Flat track sucks and always will.
Looks dull.
Ill pass.
