Japan is not China, Japan is ally! We all knew there is an economic rationale that If Nipon Steel's capital comes in, productivity will increase due to the improvement of technological capabilities, which will also be positive for employment. Moreover, the opponent is Japan, an ally!
If you think about it calmly, it is clearly a win-win industrial cooperation between Japan and the United States. Stop blaming Japan! What have you(cleveland-cliffs) been done for last 40 years then?

Japanese here! Totally agree! Japan is more than an ally. There are more than 130 US military bases in Japan and Japan and US are making a new F2 fighter together. And Japan is ready to offer tens of thousands of jobs related to this deal, which will create more and more jobs there. On top of that, Nippon Steal will make US steal updated so that US will thrive for years to come! If this deal gets intervened, only China will be pleased. Oh, the Bidens will be pleased as well?

Trust and alliances are built over a long period of time through mutual effort. this barbaric man completely denied the goodwill of Japan and the Japanese people, and said things that should never be said. once trust is broken, it cannot be restored. I felt a little relived when I saw the comments here from many Americans pointing out the abnormality of this guy , but Japanese people are quietly angry. the entire relationship of trust between Japan and the United States should not be destroyed because of an incident at one company. But this man is destroying it. This news was reported as top news in Japan and reading the comments from many Japanese people, many of them see this man as an embarrassment for an American who is old-fashioned and outdated. Since around 1980, Japan has been trying to protect American steel companies by forming joint ventures to help them, but the companies that provided the technology were resold to foreign companies and very few remained.
As China expands its territory in the steel industry, it is necessary to revive American steel manufacturing.
The situation where BRICS dominates steel manufacturing is really not good for the West, so at the very least, US Steel needs to be restored to the top 10 steel manufacturing companies.

The union flatly rejected that proposal and 3 months later, their members were bagging groceries at the local grocery stores for five bucks an hour. Unions are one of the biggest reasons for corporate failure in the US. Does it really matter who buys a failing company if they commit to saving US jobs?

Students at the university where I teach expressed an unusual opinion on this statement. Rather than being angry, they said, ‘The US is nothing but a complete enemy to Japan. The only future that both countries can end up with is war’, he sadly went on to say. The US President has interfered in a conversation between two companies, originally Nippon Steel and US Steel. This is understandable to some extent, he said. However, the situation changed when the head of one company, Cleveland, made a statement that was hostile not to Nippon Steel but to all Japanese people. Of course, the students do not expect to win the war against the US. Nevertheless, they stated that they would fight until the country of the USA collapsed to some extent. They said they were prepared to do a lot of damage and perish, just as the Russian Revolution did during the Russo-Japanese War in the past. They don't usually make political statements, but what they said helped me understand the seriousness of this issue.

As expected, even the patient Japanese are losing patience with this, and more and more people are deciding to go to war with the United States, saying that the era of peace that they have maintained for so long is over. As long as they speak out against the people and not the corporations, war between the US and Japan is now inevitable. As a foreigner living in Japan, I feel that once the Japanese have made up their minds, they are quite nasty. They are running out of patience.
