Thanks for the video. I have a 2555 from '88 and bought it in the early 2000's. I've never been in messing with the tubes (glad I didn't back when I was young and didn't know what I was doing). It's been sitting in its case in the basement for the past 15 years, and I think its time to clean her up and get her in shape to last another 40+ years.
My pleasure!!! Do be careful in there. If the power tubes are not good then I do recommend taking it in. They are easy to change but if you don't know how to adjust the bias they won't function optimally...have fin with it!
Thank you for this very helpful video! I need to replace the preamp tubes in my Bogner Uberschall and cannot find a local amp tech with time on their schedule to do so and think it is simple enough to do to rule out preamp tube issues.
My Uberschall has EHXECC83 12AX7/ECC83 Slovakia Preamp preamp tubes and two in the back have rubber bands on top of them, what are the rubber bands for?
Hard to know from here but some amps have a mechanism to keep the amps from moving. Could be as simple as that. But I can’t say for sure without seeing it.
@@LonelyRocker I will put the rubber band back on the preamp tubes when I replace them next week. Hope it is just bad preamp tube and not bad power tube as KT88 hard to replace.
I can shuffle my existing tubes around, right..? (ie the five tubes at the back are identical, as are the two 'power' (?) tubes at the front...?? Its an 80's MB 22+.
I would NOT touch the power tubes if you don't know what you are doing. Any change in the power tunes requires biasing. Yes, you can move around your preamp tubes but I doubt you'll hear much of a difference if anything at all...careful in there if you are not sure what you are doing....
Could be something as simple as a fuse or something more involved...or just the tubes. Take it to an amp guy. I recently serviced my Marshall and it was well worth it...good luck!
@@LonelyRocker thanks yeah, hopefully... it'll go to the shop 👍 enjoy your Marshall, I know I would.😎 there's something about a Marshall. I only have a Lead 12 (80's) but I rehearsed with the band with it lastnight 😄
And how can I find a power tube that will match what I already have that way I don't need to play too much with the amplifier I have a Marshall JTM 45 amplifier
You generally would replace all of them at once. But best to have an amp tech do it. They would make sure it’s done properly. Don’t try it yourself. It’s not like changing a lightbulb.
Question : Why does your 900 have 2 Lrg power tubes and mine has 4 ? You opened your's up and I was surprised to see that. Curious to know. Anyhow, switched my amp on this morning and got a constant humming tone. I know somethings wrong. Not knowing squat about amps. I am guessing my preamp tubes.
Mine is a 50 watt. I assume yours is a 100 watt? As for the humming, hard for me to say from here but changing the preamp tubes is super simple and they will never go to waste. Doesn’t hurt to have spares lying around. If that doesn’t fix it then I guess it’s off to an amp tech :-)
@@LonelyRocker Thanks for the reply. Yes mine is a 100W. Update: My amps okay now. I left it on standby for about 30+ minutes. For some reason it took longer to warm up today I guess. It tends to have a mind of it's own now and again. Sometimes it will pop and crackle. Tomorrow it may catch fire. Who knows LOL
First of all, after you unplug the power cord, you should switch on and off the amp to discharge the remaining electricity on capacitors completely. Secondly you forgot your cam in the amp.

Good thing that you said that stuff about safety. If I ever need to fix anything, I'll take it to a shop.
Glad I could be there for you 👍🏼

@@LonelyRocker thanks. The amp failed a year ago (no light) thought it might've been the old tubes in there

Smart move ;) Hey use what you've got with pride and build over time...that's what I did :)

Great playing in the end
Thank you. Really appreciate that. For noticing the playing and making it to the end ;-)
Ruby 12AX7HG in the first 1V...stick a Sovtek 12AX7LPS in the phase inverter
Maybe I'll give it a try ;)
@@LonelyRocker LPs is a classic PI tube
Thanks for the useful video. Gonna crack open my JVM and hopefully get it sorted. Loved the special fx at the start - LMAO!
Glad it helped! Bee safe in there! And glad you appreciate my silly humour :))))))))
Hi my friend changed the nos pre amp lamps and he said he had a change in the sound do you think this is true? Thanks
Changing preamp tubes could alter the tone but it could be so slight you won’t notice. Really depends on what you put in there.

My pleasure! The unpredictability of a tube amp. I wouldn’t change it for anything! 😂😂😂
Thanks for doing the VIDEO.......now I know how to change the pre-amp tubes........nice playing too.........bye now
Thank you...and my pleasure!! Glad it helped....
Very interesting and glad you didn’t shock yourself 🤪
