Yes - the villagers are hearing the echoes from their own people.
But - there is also another explanation to be considered in this situation.
That rock has many hollows & caves - so when the wind blows it creates sounds.
These sounds are like someone playing a flute. It may even sound like singing or even speech.

In regards to your findings, I believe you’re absolutely correct! The reason being, there’s no way human beings can be trapped in or within a rock for a month and still survive how much more for years as the villagers insinuated. To whom brain 🧠 is given, sense is expected!😁👆🏽

Okay..... Now I'm confused... Like really confused.
My mom is from ikere Ekiti and she told me there are two rocks in their hometown one called olosunta and the other one called Orole
And according to her and the stories i sàw on Google, the two rocks trapped people in them during a war outbreak in the town many years ago but after the war olosunta released the people trapped in it but orole didnt and till date people are still in that orole rock
