The war unleashed by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin against Ukraine has brought NATO very close to Russia's borders. Already in the future, in 2025, the Alliance's northern land command will be formed in northern Finland. This was announced by Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen, Reuters reports . The group's headquarters will be located near the Russian border in case of a military conflict in Northern Europe. Let us recall that Finland became a NATO member in 2023, responding to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The organization of the Alliance's presence on the territory of the country is currently underway. "We will propose to NATO to establish a command together with the headquarters of the ground forces in Mikkeli ," Häkkänen said. He had previously specified that the plans had already received preliminary political consent from the bloc's member countries. Mikkeli is a city and a major logistics centre in northern Finland, located just a couple of hours' drive from the Russian border and 250 km from St. Petersburg.
At first, the headquarters' annual budget will be about $9.5 million, and several dozen military specialists will work there. Finnish Army Commander Pasi Välimäki told a press conference that the new command's exact geographic area of operation would be determined later. However, it would initially be responsible for planning NATO ground operations in the Northern Region. There is a grandiose "betrayal" in the Z-channels in connection with the fact that NATO headquarters will appear directly on the Russian borders. They recalled that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin began his war against Ukraine precisely under the slogan of fighting the expansion of the Alliance.
