    Very well played. As a child used to watch Captain Pugwash on TV. The bass is very interesting. I'm a beginner accordionist with 3 years experience. How an I improve my left hand. I have the Adventurers in Bassland written in the 1950s, but is has very little instructions. I also have the book The Mighty Accordian , which is good, but no songs in it, just exercises. Any tips please ?

    • @TerryClarkAccordioncrazy
      @TerryClarkAccordioncrazy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comment. Most accordion bass patterns centre around alternating a major chord with the tonic and 5th root notes, and sometimes the counter bass (major 3rd). In the key of C that would be C chord with C and G root notes and E counter-bass. The same patterns are used with the 7th chords. I think it helps to practice multiple fingerings for these alternating patterns so you can swop between chords more easily. Also, know your way around the circle of 5ths and have a mental picture of how this relates to the bass buttons. Probably the most important thing is having a mental map of what buttons lie under your fingers and in the nearby rows. I hope that helps. In the end there's no substitute for just spending a lot of time practicing.

    Not quite the same as Tom Edmondson's original and I can hear the difference even though my musical vocabulary is inadequate to explain why - Tom puts in a couple of extra notes in the climb up & down at the end of each of the first bars whereas Terry slurs the notes. On the other hand all the sheet music I have looked at follows Terry's version. Who is to say?? Terry's playing is awesome

    How the hell do you manage to play something like that when you can't see what you're doing !

    • @TerryClarkAccordioncrazy
      @TerryClarkAccordioncrazy  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My piano teacher called it keyboard geography. You've got to know what notes are under your fingers.

    • @JP_TaVeryMuch
      @JP_TaVeryMuch 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you give it a minute or two, you'd soon realise that we all have similar skills.
      If not the mentioned piano keyboard geography, then how about the frets of a guitar, the keys on any wind instrument you care to mention, as well as the position of the metal bars on a xylophone, the strings of a harp.
      Musical muscle memory aside, what about you at your computer keyboard? Bet you don't look every time you type.
      Human beings are pretty amazing if we did but know it!

  • @JP_TaVeryMuch
    @JP_TaVeryMuch 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Dunno about you, but this arrangement seems to me to be missing roughly one note every couple of bars.

    • @TerryClarkAccordioncrazy
      @TerryClarkAccordioncrazy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'd be the first to agree that as an amateur musician my performance isn't perfect. One note every couple of bars is perhaps an exaggeration though. Please upload your version so I can learn from it.

      Ha ha, touché monsieur, bravo!
      You are no doubt correct and thank you for taking it so graciously.
      Unfortunately, technology has not reached the level where it can sift through childhood memories in my head and reproduce the version it finds.
      One of the joys of such serendipity as enjoying YT videos like yours here is exactly this: the retrieval and dusting off of a long ago filed, long ago important slice of my life.
      I should, but am loathe to compare your arrangement with the one from the TV prog where I heard it first.
      Reluctant because I don't want to rewrite over my own recollection. I've done that before and the satisfaction of having the "definitive" one has nowhere near trumped the one I have kept in my heart.
      A long winded reply but I felt the need to explain the impossibility of being able to comply with your reasonable request.

    • @TerryClarkAccordioncrazy
      @TerryClarkAccordioncrazy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JP_TaVeryMuch Perhaps I misunderstood your previous post. I think you may be recalling the theme tune of Captain Pugwash which was played on concertina by Thomas Edmonson, a truly awesome musician. He did insert a leading note before each phrase which I don't. The tune itself is much older and like most folk tunes it has various interpretations.
