Just used this razor for the first time today. I suffered a lot from razor burn with previous five blade razors so, decided to give this two blade razor a go. It’s one of the best shaves I’ve ever had. Very happy and no razor burn. I think you’re right. The spacing out of the two blades makes a difference.
I agree. I was a Harry's user before switching to the skinguard. With Harry's whenever I shaved against the grain, it would give me razor bumps and would bleed. The skinguard did none of that so I'm glad I made the switch.
I love the hell out of my dad. But for a guy whose had a full beard since he was 18, he’s not the greatest shaving instructor. This channel has been a really big help for me. Thanks!
As a long time convert to DE shaving, I have to be totally honest here...I didn't hate this one. I like to go back and try different cartridge products every now and then to prove to myself I made the right choice, but was pleasantly surprised here. Tried it out today and got a nice, comfortable shave with it. I think I'll actually keep this one for a travel razor or to use for a quick shave, if needed. Would highly recommend to someone with sensitive skin prone to razor burn who is required to shave daily...I've got military in mind in particular. Really my only complaint was the lubrication strips. Two may be excessive, because when I didn't rinse frequently it just felt like I was rubbing goo all over my face. Might be good to tone that down a bit.
Me too. I am glad I didn't have to buy a new handle. It fits the 5 blade Fusion Proglide handle. Will be my plane / travel razor. I too love the quality of de and savings.
I'll second Daniel. I would love to see your whole set up. Drawer, routine "behind the camera", sink, etc. A must in the wet shave community! Thanks Sinatra! You're the best!
Agreed. You seem to have lots of amazing products. A tour would be fun. Your top two or three products of each category would be fun too (ie, shave cream, shave soap, razor, after shave, after shave lotion)
Growing up without a father figure to teach me the "correct" way to shave, it's proved difficult to have a more clean looking appearance. I appreciate your videos because I've actually learned a few techniques that I never learned before. Thank you for the videos, I'm thankful
I just started shaving and your channel has been a great resource for not only getting a perfect shave but to also learn techniques to make every shave a fun experience. Thanks Mr. Lennon, your a god send. Sending love from India 🇮🇳
Tip for those with sensitive skin if you're using barbasol. Wet your face well then add a small amount of shaving cream crushing it into your beard. The goal is to get it under the whisker like a pre shave. Then add the normal amount of product on top and shave as usual. Works almost as well as the expensive stuff.
A trick for people with sensitive skin. Wash your face with balanced hair conditioner before you shave. Makes your hair soft and shaves off real easy. Then use thick body lotion as your after shave.
I saw one of these in my local supermarket on offer so I decided to try it. I have to say I was very impressed with it, definitely the best cartridge razor I've used. Sadly it's the type of razor I can see being discontinued within the next year or two
It finally looks like gillete is moving forward. When I first started shaving I bought proglide and got 2 rows of razor bumps under my jaw after my first week of shaving, I wish I found this razor first
I have super sensitive skin - bumps, burns, acne, etc. My arsenal includes DEs, single blade disposables and this Gillette sensitive razor. It’s good as you described and not as costly as the 100-blade models. Finally a decent product from G. Will be my travel razor on trips that I need to carry-on luggage.
Thank you for sharing your comments, instructions and review of the shaver. It was very helpful and educational. I also am a single mom with an autistic son and your video and comments will help us both. Thank you.
Thank you Mr. Lennon for your fantastic review! It’s rare that someone that reviews safety razors, giving an honest, positive review of a cartridge razor.
I LOVE Cremo's shave creams and shave butters!!! Also, I use a double layer of aftershave. I first splash some alcohol or astringent based aftershave to close up any nicks, and then finish with a moisturizing aftershave lotion. Been doing that for years, and it really keeps my face soft, fresh, and nice to the touch.
I never can understand why someone can't just enjoy your review of a razor without having to bring in political commentary, it's always got to be political
Hardly. I'm stating a fact for me. I looked at the escalating costs of paying over $5 per cartridge or $0.17 per razor blade and made a choice. Both last me one week, so you can stop projecting. But since you brought it up, Gillette took the first shot. All they had to do was keep to their years old slogan and just sell their product, but they had to make a SJW statement instead, by making commercials that clearly wasn't well received. I had already switched to DE shaving before all the nonsense, thanks to guys like SinatraLennon and Ken Surfs, to name a few. I thank these guys that help others get started, and just maybe, they can get a great shave and save some money along the way.
I got roughly around 12 shaves out of a Gillette Skinguard cartridge and I have a really tough beard and I shave at least twice a week. I have since went back to straight razors.
I just started shaving with. I shave 3 times a week and this would be perfect and not expensive 24.99 for 8 cartridges. I could shave 12 months for 40 bucks.

There's an extra blade on the back for the area under your nose and for leveling out the sideburns. Nice job on shaving with a safety razor by the way, other safety razor people make me cringey when using cartridge razors...
Ha! I try to just be me and keep the cringe to a minimum. You know, don’t come off as all high and mighty with my fancy safety razors and brushes. I’m just a normal guy that’s trying stuff out and using what I like. Thanks for the tip on the rear blade.
I have very sensitive skin, but don't grow much facial hair. So I always had really bad razor bumps and burns from using 3-5 blade cartridge razors, it was overkill for the amount of hair I grew. This razor gives me the smoothest and least irritating shave I've ever had, it is great! Whilst I do notice that hair grows back faster whilst using this because the shave isn't as close, but to me it's worth it because I'm not in pain post shaving!
Just wait until they put another blade and it becomes Skinguard Mach 3, and another blade and another blade until it becomes the Gillette Fusion Proglide Skinguard Ultimate Flexball Sensor etc. 😄 That's Gillette marketing for yah.
Saw an offer in a Gillette ad for gettimg a free fusion 5 flexball and it came with the skin guard cartridge aswell, makes for a good razor if you need a shave but out the door fast, great review as always
You are a brave man, S/L! Actually this razor doesn't seem as bad as most and your presentation of it was very sympathetic. Funny, I had way more irritation from a multi blade cart than from a DE. I thought I had sensitive skin but I just had poor razors. I recall a commercial back in the day from Gillette. It had an animation of a whisker being shaved by multiple blades, I think the narration was something like "the first blade stretches the whisker and the second cuts it off below the skin." Seems exactly the recipe for ingrown hairs.
God job I quit frequent close shaving Now I am using Andis trimmer slime line pro and with zero gapping it gives good result Only shaving every one month when get a hair cut Less irritating and I got my skin healthy and tight again.
Hey SinatraLennon, I have a tip for shave foam from the can users. You can use a brush and add some water to the foam on your face, like doing a face lather, and you then do not need to pretreat your face with a shower or with first washing the face. In fact you can first wet the brush and squeeze out most of the water and squirt some canned shave cream into the brush and start a face lather and add some water that way.
First shave video i saw of you. Started watching more of your videos. Kensurfs got me into wet shaving so im new into the wetshaving world but i also like your videos as well. So i will be subscribing. Thanks for taking your time to do these videos.
that shaving sound is most rememberable sound to me. I used to stand next to my dad and watch him shave and loved it.I was probably 11or 12yrs old.😂 But now I am 21 and now when I do the shave somehow it quite.(quite as no sound) Maybe due to the blade I use
Just started using razors, again. Used to use clippers or trimmers to shave because I got nasty skin burn after a shave and bumps. First time using it and I’m hooked. Great review
Probably the best cartridge blade since the mach 3. Shaving ATG under the nose area(if u can) does a good job, and the single blade on rear works well under the nose. I tend to use a cartridge razor when in a rush, or had one to many the night before. Keep up the good work.
I might be a little late to the party here, but, great video, man! I have just bought my first cartridge razer which is the Mach 3 turbo, and I'm just starting out with wet shaving, and your tips helped me a lot. God bless you.
I use this razor if I am shaving in the morning. At night I either use a OneBlade or my Panasonic Arc5 (and a standard razor to touch up the neck since no electric shaver does my neck perfectly)
I hope this pairs well with Proraso for sensitive skin. I’ve used nothing but clippers for the last fifteen years, and I’m dipping my toe back into actual shaving.
Another great shave. Shaving 101 with Professor Sinatra Lennon. Class is in session! I’m a DE wet shaver all the way but some people have no choice but to use these cartridges due to sensitivity.
Good little tutorial. I think they did accomplish what they set out to do--create a cart that shaves not quite as close as modern multi-blades but does so very comfortably. You still have all the issues of cost, etc, but there are people who will really enjoy it.
Last time I've used cartridge razor was Gillette Sensor Excel, with two blades. It's better than use 3, 4, 5 or 6 blades, believe me. Anyway DE shaving are the best that we can have for a perfect shave. Very informative video for the beginners, well done. Cheers
@SinatraLennon i've used the Skinguard before. it came with a cool stand you could set it in and leave it by your bathroom sink. only issue is the cost of refills
Great public service, SinatraLennon. Here in Thailand, I always shave with cold water. Half of the reason is that it is hot. The other half of the reason is thst we do not have on demand hot water.
One of many things I was blessed with, is not having sensitive skin. I never shave with the grain, I go against or across the grain. Even with a slant bar razor I get no irritation. Great vid man keep em rolling💈
@@SinatraLennon A lot of guys get into wet shaving due to sensitive skin, I got into it cause I thought it was cool. Your early videos were some of the first ones I watched years ago. I'm still waiting for you to break out the shave cloth again!
Best Razor I have ever used gets closer than safety razor or other Gillette razors etc I have soft skin can't use safety razor grew up using them been shaving a lot more years than you have so have experience. Skinguard blades do vary a bit from one to another in sharpness not much but they do I would advise anyone with sensitive skin to use Nivea Sensitive Shaving Gel with Skinguard or any other razor not normal barbers soap. Hope this helps anyone with a problem. Oh and as was said keep the razor wet and rinse
I just received your new synthetic shaving brush and I can’t wait to try it out today. I may use it with my margaritas in the arctic or another shaving cream or shaving soap of my choice today.
You should be able too find bic sensitive razors at wal-mart I find I need a bit more water on my face and I’m liking the Barbasol extra moisturizing cream over the edge cream
$9.. that's 1 box of 100pcs DE blade on most brands, but I do kept 1 or 2 of these Gillette, for a quick fix shave, oftenly lasts for a month. like always, love your videos.
Exactly! I’m all for using whatever you feel like at the moment. I’ll always use my safety razors, but every now and then I use an electric if I want a quick shave just to clean up a bit.
I tried the safety razor. Although it didn't cause any irritation, it just didn't give as close a shave as this skin guard does. I'll do a second pass against the grain, and my face feels baby smooth. The refills are stupid expensive, but I have to have the closer shave. All other cartridges feels like I've shaved with a cheese grater.
Exactly! Not everyone wants some crazy huge array of brushes and creams and razors from all over the world. Sometimes you just want a simple shave that you can find at your local store.
Question? I have an extraordinary thick beard. I struggle to get a clean shave usually shaving the same spot three or four times. Can you suggest a razor and blades?
Another great review....... Like you said sometimes you must go with what is best for you no matter what they may have agreed with that is their opinions they do not have to be yours..... I shave my head bald, and my beard around my goatee... Any razors Gillette double, bic double gives me bumps even going with the grain in back of neck. I think with these being double blades but separated not like the others is the key to me not getting razor bumps.... So i will continue to buy the SKINGUARD, also i use a rubber blade straightener to strop the blade before every use, and the cartridge last longer than it would normally last..... Have you tried the DEFENDER triple spaced razor similar to the Skinguard?
This was a great video, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Can you please review a Gilette Mach 3, which has been out since 1998. and the first triple blade system. Thank you.
I was shaving incorrectly for years and getting bumps each time, then earlier this year learned to watch which direction my neck hair grew. Now I shave upwards on my neck (WTG) and never get bumps.
I've had hit and miss results with the skinguard. Like it's Indian cousin, the Gillette guard, it is a significantly better head shaver then face shaver. The funny part about the skinguard is when you watch review videos a majority of them show a man who talks about ingrowns and irritation... Then rubs shaving gel onto their dry cheek, takes 1 small slow swipe WTG (only on their cheek), and comments on how smooth it is lol. I have a 5 o'clock shadow after a ATG pass with the skinguard so I've got no idea what these dudes are talking about. Thank you for incorporating water and giving a real review. I may have said this before but Gillette's new Pure cream in the tube is designed to be used with a brush and has outperformed most of my fancy European creams at only $6 and available locally.
Yeah, I tried to not only review this razor but give some basic tips to guys that might not know how to get a better shave out of their razor. Hopefully my basics of shaving tips help!
Excellent video. It really irks me when you see certain people claim, on other videos or posts, that you can’t get a great shave with a cartridge razor..... I’m trying to get into DE shaving as well though, I bought an Edwin Jagger 89LBL recently, and have had good results so far. However, I’m having trouble fully committing, as the allure of an effort free BBS shave with the cartridge is still pretty strong.
I try to be honest on my opinions of shaving products and keep it simple. I do love my safety razors, but I always say ‘use what works best for you!’ Thanks for the comment.
You can find these cartridges for $3/ea at Amazon. But for anyone interested in a good twin blade razor check out the Schick ST-2 disposable, available for as little as 37 cents each. As a quicker alternative to a proper safety razor shave I sometimes do a first pass with a Braun Series 7 electric and then a finishing pass with the ST-2. Gives a very good result.
My father switched from safety razors to cartridge decades ago, but when I "rediscovered" DE shaving for myself, he bought himself a Rockwell. I don't think he'll ever go back to cartridge now.
When I was ues cartridge razors there was only 2 brand's that I could use and they was 6 dollars for 4 blades and I avoided shaving because they was so expensive and I only got 2 maybe 3 shaves out of them then I started uesing electric razors but I couldn't get that smooth shave I like with them then my grama gives me gives me a safety razor I was hesitant on how well this would shave I tried it and I love it its kinda strange I didn't cut my self with it my first time using it and I somehow just new how to ues it I wish I new about sooner
Ha! Hardly. 😊 This was sort of a basic tutorial and review for folks looking for shaving tips. I get asked about this kind of thing a lot. Don’t worry, I’ll be back to my normal nonsense on Friday using ancient shaving products and weird razors from past decades. Real ‘inside baseball’ stuff!
I bought this Gillette skin guard cartridge razor. And I tried it. I still rather use a vintage cartridge razor such as my Gillette atra or my Gillette sensor excell.
I use the old Gillette contour plus blades razor what has only two blades in the cartridge, the second cartridge what Gillette brought out in 1977. I even have the chrome handle what makes my shave even better because the handle is heavy, never use any other cartridge , and I do agree with all de razors about all theses stupid 5 or so blades. And also the contour blades for 10 razors are alot cheaper then the new Gillette sensitive blades what you are using in this video.
My mom bought me this with 10 cartridges. I’ve never shaved and I don’t need to shave all the time. So like what’s the point? Do cartridges go out of date?
Hey, man, I’m a big fan! I’ve been thinking about using the Skinguard everyday, but I feel like going with the grain I don’t really get a good shave. Shaving against the grain with other blades leads to bumps for me, so is it possible to shave against the grain with this blade (i.e. does the skinguard prevent the hair from going under and leading to an ingrown)?
I used Skinguard for 2 years and now I have switched to Mach 3 because I didn’t get good clean and close shaves. Even 2 passes couldn’t do the job with this razor
When using Proglide, you only need to go with the growth/grain. If you cut hair below skin level too much which is against, you will have painful ingrown hairs. The best shave I got is from a traditional double edge safety razor and platinum coated double edge blade.
You are the "shaving father" a lot of guys might never had. Awesome idea man great vid!
Thanks, TShull. I get a lot of guys looking for this kind of basic info that somehow didn’t get taught to them.

I have just bought my first cartridge razer which is the Mach 3 turbo, and I'm just starting out with wet shaving, and your tips helped me a lot. God bless you.
This is THE best shaving video I've ever seen. Well done man!
Thanks!
I use this razor if I am shaving in the morning. At night I either use a OneBlade or my Panasonic Arc5 (and a standard razor to touch up the neck since no electric shaver does my neck perfectly)
Does this cut as close or closer than the Arc 5?
I hope this pairs well with Proraso for sensitive skin. I’ve used nothing but clippers for the last fifteen years, and I’m dipping my toe back into actual shaving.
Another great shave. Shaving 101 with Professor Sinatra Lennon. Class is in session! I’m a DE wet shaver all the way but some people have no choice but to use these cartridges due to sensitivity.
Exactly! This video is for them.
I use cartridge razor for my head and safety Razor for my face great Video !
Glad you like it dude! It's a good razor! The back trimmer is best for under your nose and sideburn areas as well.
I was pleasantly surprised!
My skinguard blade has been good for 2-3 months now . The skinguard does wear down but the blade stay good and haven’t cut me so far 👍✌️
Good little tutorial. I think they did accomplish what they set out to do--create a cart that shaves not quite as close as modern multi-blades but does so very comfortably. You still have all the issues of cost, etc, but there are people who will really enjoy it.
I agree 100%. Not a bad cartridge razor by any means.
I’m 13 and I just started shaving today I got the razor you were using because of this vid and it felt great! Thanks man!
You’re off to a great start!
I use. Cold water when i shave. I use electric most of the times. Sometimes disposable razor
Savage.
Cold water hardens you beard
Man when u pulled out that aqua velva, that was my 1st aftershave ever, I used that splash on my face with sum aloe vera barbasol when i was 14
My last best Gillette was Sensor (Not Excel). After getting my Merkur 34C HD I never looked other razors.
That’s the one safety razor that I haven’t tried!
Last time I've used cartridge razor was Gillette Sensor Excel, with two blades. It's better than use 3, 4, 5 or 6 blades, believe me. Anyway DE shaving are the best that we can have for a perfect shave. Very informative video for the beginners, well done.
Cheers
Yeah, those multi blade razors are out of hand and don’t feel good. DE for ME!
this razor has an extra blade on the top for tough to reach spots you can use it by holding the razor backwards
had the best shave of my life thanks to you. thanks for the tips
Great to hear!
Sounds like you’ve made do with what you’re given!
@@SinatraLennon you are right there.
One of many things I was blessed with, is not having sensitive skin. I never shave with the grain, I go against or across the grain. Even with a slant bar razor I get no irritation. Great vid man keep em rolling💈
I’m in the same boat. Luck, really.
@@SinatraLennon A lot of guys get into wet shaving due to sensitive skin, I got into it cause I thought it was cool. Your early videos were some of the first ones I watched years ago. I'm still waiting for you to break out the shave cloth again!
thank you for teaching me how to use a cartrage razor👍👍👍
you have earned a sub
Im use to a more aggressive shave with a safety razor or five blade cartridge. I might buy this to check it out.
Give it a try for those days when your skin wants a break.
@@SinatraLennon Bought a Gillette Skin Guard to try out last week. I'll be shaving with it this upcoming week.
Gillette skinguard is hands down my favorite! Especially for me sensitive skin. Great engineering by the team @ gillette
Happy Labor Day!! Even though we are not supposed to not work, the Barbasol Brigade is ready to clock in!
Well, I’m working and making videos. I’m laboring! Have a good one.
I just received your new synthetic shaving brush and I can’t wait to try it out today. I may use it with my margaritas in the arctic or another shaving cream or shaving soap of my choice today.
Actually its is a 3 bladed razor...there is a small trimmer blade on the back of the cartridge head.
You should be able too find bic sensitive razors at wal-mart I find I need a bit more water on my face and I’m liking the Barbasol extra moisturizing cream over the edge cream
I love my Barbasol.
Get the BIC METAL instead. Much better than the Sensitive.
$9.. that's 1 box of 100pcs DE blade on most brands, but I do kept 1 or 2 of these Gillette, for a quick fix shave, oftenly lasts for a month.
like always, love your videos.
Exactly! I’m all for using whatever you feel like at the moment. I’ll always use my safety razors, but every now and then I use an electric if I want a quick shave just to clean up a bit.
For me double edge blade razor will be my favorite style of razor i have an many double edge blade from many brands
Great video, sensitive skin sucks, i get razor burns but i cant even get a clean shave, especially on moustache area...
This will be good on me for Headshaves
Hi SL. Had no idea the Skinguard was only two blades. Maybe I`ll give it a try one of these days. Thanks for the video.👍
It’s not bad at all!
These skinguard razors are superb… I only use these now…😊
I got this razor randomly in the mail for my birthday and I just want to see if its any good
another great video, good review for us that don't keep up with the new fangled
That’s great!
Great info. Thanks!
There is an XL version of the blade that is compatible too
I know how to shave with a cartridge, safety and straight razor. However I MUST watch Sinatra, otherwise ill go into withdrawal
Ha! Thanks.
Gillette never hurt my feelings, but I have a clean conscience.
Would you recommend this razor for someone who sometimes got a few pimples on his face, because I dont want to cut myself
My father switched from safety razors to cartridge decades ago, but when I "rediscovered" DE shaving for myself, he bought himself a Rockwell. I don't think he'll ever go back to cartridge now.
That’s cool! I wonder if I could get my Dad to switch.
Great shave it was a very good video for beginners very informative.
Thanks Joy!
Love from Ohio you are like the shaving father for me definitely doing some good things
You've turned your back on us DE wet shavers! Just kidding, great shave, SL. Good suggestion on the Cremo balm for sensitive skin.
Ha!
With the grain shave with a open comb de razor u can still feel the stubble against the grain.
Just got the Skinguard its pretty good as before I used the Gillette Fusion but it cut my face up for a week or so with new blades.
Because you pressed to hard.
Really nice review i loved it u told everything in detail 👌👍❤
