Once switched to Battle section the Axis alert icon side can be used to track units that have acted, alternating every turn, as they are all alert it is no longer needed to track alert status.
Most common error i'm seeing in playthrough vids is that the rule "the first time you carry out an action in LOS of an alert axis unit they shoot you" this happens EVERY turn, once per operator. looking at it I need to highlight it in the book more (page 9 "the first time during a turn an operator carries out an action within LOS of an alert axis unit the axis unit will attack"). So at 42:52 when jock uses the recover action the guy would shoot him, then at 42:57 when paddy sprints over he would shoot him too. Your Germans are currently on easy mode :) Another small thing is that in the axis advance in the battle section the sentries actually remain on their spots and just turn to face your direction. Like, they know there's an actual attack underway so they don't abandon their posts. That may have actually helped here :)
Thank you for the clarification Robert! I actually did know about that first rule, but my nerves must have gotten me in the heat of the battle!! Great fun, great game. I've yet to complete the first mission, but I've been close several times!
@@WW2SolitaireBoardGameChannel funnily enough, when i saw it happen in another video I said to Mark from Word Forge "I wonder if it's like a stress thing from when the alarm goes?" I remember when I was designing it I had a similar thing whenever the alarm went my brain went to mush. It actually convinced me to put the third tutorial mission "Rally Point Charlie" into the game where basically the alarm is on a short timer and you have to hold out and fight until rescue arrives. Basically just a way of getting players used to the battle section.
@@dicesportsrob79 Very likely! I definitely feel the heat once the alarm goes off. You know they're coming for you and that there are an endless stream of reinforcements coming! Oh yeah, it turned in to some brutal close quarters combat! haha yepp, those commandos are cold! :D It's a really cool game. I can see myself really enjoying progressing through the available missions in the finished game.. Thanks William!
such a great game! I supported it right away. Even if there will probably be no German version, I hope that you will eventually make the scenario editor available later or at least design other addons. For money, of course :)
21:15 The corpse was on the floor below the window so not spotted by the sentry 40:20 Short +1 and Marked +2 and a die roll of 1 = 4 -it was an auto kill anyway.
@@krunco6228 I'd recommend you to set up a camera and record yourself playing. We all do game mistakes, minor and major. Everyone is not just aware of it because they aren't recording their sessions. This video was meant to showcase the game flow, not act as a "how to play". Sorry you couldn't enjoy it.
Thank you very much for your time and effort you put into this. One minor question (just for me to get ghis right): At 14:35 you spawn the Germans on the white colored spawn point with the road. As far as I understand the rules, the spawn point is determined by the color of that "3 dot counter" that is switched every turn (and starts on the black side). Therefore I think ghe Gernans should have started on the black colored spawn point with the lawn). A great game and a great vid...I hope to see a rematch!
I don't think the color on the spawn boarda matter. They will not be activated and spawned on the regular board until you have reached (if you reach) the alert phase of the game.
Similair games but as far as I understand, the stealth in V commandos is luck based (you roll dice to see if detected) and in this game it's rather based on the base mechanics of vision/sound etc. So as long as you stay hidden, they wont discover you unless you mess up, but in V commandos, a bad roll can make you discovered.
17:47 I think this event card may have done more good than harm, as the German bottom-centre would have advanced to within 8 squares and LoS of Jock (had he not turned facing first)? Or did I miss something? Thx for the playthrough
Jock is outside, the patroller is inside so he can't see him. He can only se the square which is directly outside of the door so he would not be able to see any of the operators.
@@WW2SolitaireBoardGameChannel I'm talking about the patroller outside, to Jock's right - when you moved Jock turn 1 you said "I can't go any closer or I'll be within 8 squares of this guy and he's facing me" (or something to that effect) and so you placed Jock one square further. However, if the German on the bottom right of the screen, below the bushes, had patrolled without changing facing, he would have moved one square towards Jock and spotted him. I haven't read the rulebook, just going from your comment at the start of the video, so I may be misunderstanding?
@@mzzabzzuzza4759 Now I get it I thought you meant the patrol inside. You're absolutely right, the patrol on the right side would have indeed spotted me!
Just watching the video and I don't think the event card you drew at 25:30 would have triggered the soldier on patrol to spot Paddy. I believe that card should have only triggered the white sentries (those on the eye symbols). Apologies if you address this later in the video.
I was wondering the same thing about the event card, since it has the sentry "eye" on it. Glad to see it asked and answered already in the comments! Fulfilment is getting really close here (USA) and I am getting excited to play.
At around 24.15 would it not have been possible to sprint 3 and then move up to 2 more and hide behind the building? Also can you sprint twice moving 6 in total? In the rule book I cannot see anything about sprinting just once
Well it's a big difference to play on camera and off camera. This was not a how to play video or tactics video, but rather meant to showcase the SOP and game flow. When you're filning, you also have to consider the lightning, frame, audio, video settings and such, so you're never completely focused on the game itself. You also have to do all of this in a relatively short time, not to boot viewers with videos consisting of several hours of footage. On top of that, I recieved the game only days before the deadline of the Kickstarter, and had quite limited time to create this. I hope you understand! Thank you for watching, I hope it helped you get a better sense of the SOP and game flow.
