  • Repair Computer Power Supply /ATX Standby Voltage Fail / Input short circuit
    i explained practical How to repair computer ATX switch mode power supply SMPS very easy. this PSU had no output on STBY +5V standby missing, short circuit in input section, the fuse burnt out.
    i shared my easiest and perfect troubleshooting techniques to repair computer AT or ATX power supply, i found rectifier diodes, fuse, power transistor, diodes in standby inverter section. smps concept and troubleshooting repairing or understanding repair switching mode power supply basics and working principle. how to troubleshoot input electromagnet induction filter, EMI, bridge rectifier and capacitor. we get 330 VDC at main capacitor. after hat the +330 volts are applied to standby power, which is SMPS and makes +5V SB, these stand by voltage are applied to motherboard which pull down the PS ON green wire to zero level, so the ENABLE OR REMOTE ON or CONTROL pin of #smps will go low that will enable pulse width modulation. and also i discussed smps basics. after watching this video you can capable to:-

    Great video sharing...I have a NOX Urano 630W ATX power supply, and it never turns off, without any motherboard, the fan is always spinning and the defect is always the same, it's turn on, I checked that the green wire (POWER ON) is in a short circuit with all the black wires. How can I resolve this? Could it be the output electrolytic capacitor? Could it be from the integrated output control circuit? Only I get turn off with the external switch supply !!

    First, I like to appreciate you for this great exposure to all I had learnt from this video.
    But, I like to know something that had been a concern to me about zener diodes. A lot of times, its code is not readable or available at all, then how can one know its rated voltage within a circuit?
    From this video, you said that, about two of the zener diodes are not good, now, my question is, how were you able to know the actual voltage of the zener diode that was not good in that session of the circuit that has issue?

    BE CAREFUL! THE CAPS in series have 340V!!
    And he doesn't discharge the caps. The caps hold dangerous voltage for at LEAST 5 minutes after powering the power supply!
    Do NOT, NOTNOTNOT touch anything after plugging the power supply like he did.
    You will get shocked and you have bad chances of surviving 340V shock.
    Please be careful, unlike the dude in the video!

      you are absolutely right. the series capacitors hold around 300+ vdc. and there is a bleeder resistor to discharge these capacitors and it takes a few minutes to discharge, sometimes the bleeder resistor is open, in that case we must careful

    I use a 25W lamp for series bulbs. When it is connected to test a power supply, the bulb lights up with a low light. Is this due to low W value of the bulb or short circuit in power supply?

      25watt lamp cannot provide enough current, that is the reason that it will glow at any good circuit
      you need at least 60 watt or 100 watt

    Standby voltage is available but , after connecting green and black ground wires , there is no 12 volt and 5 volt and 3.3 volt output. Fan doesn't start , however there is some very high pitch sound from board.

      if it takes a start and then output disappears, in this case voltage supervisor ic is interrupting
      if it is not turning at all, please check PSON command or over voltage / short circuit detection circuit OR PWM controller section

    sir problem hai ek meri psu me jo pmw ke liye optocouler lagya uski ek pin par agar mai fingerr laga du to power supply on ho jati hai bina greeen and black ko short kiye par agar mai green ko short karu black se to thoda sa pankha ghumta hai fir band
    or ek baat psu start nahi ho pati but agar uski standby section ke transfotmer me primary. me agar mai voltage check karu live chalte huye to multimeter awaz karta halki si and uske baad pasu me secondary voltage aajati hai

    Sir,
    My SMPS show only 3.7volt Standby voltage it's has 2N60 mosfet for Standby switch
    I check MOSFET it's showing all correct reading
    I replaced opto coupler 817
    Check 2 resistor 1k and 10ohms
    which connects to coupler both ok
    Replace IC TL431, 222 1kv PF , 471 1kv and check all stand-by components but couldn't find fault still it shows 3.7v please help me to find fault
    I am always crazy to repair switching Power supply but few 2-3 power supply I found fault.
