In Europe and Asia, STIs are combated with condoms, hygiene, and testing. Why is genital cutting being promoted in Africa? Why are men in Africa encouraged to lessen themselves? Lessen their manhood? My speculation is that the international community sees black africans as problems to be solved, not human beings with dignity.
Large-scale research in Kenya, Uganda and South Africa shows that male circumcision reduces the risk of HIV/AIDS by over 60% (better than half) and other sexually transmitted viral infections such as HPV (human papilloma virus) similarly. This reduction of risk continues for the rest of the boy's/man's life. In view of the high levels of HIV in much of Africa south of the Sahara, male circumcision is an efficient and cost-effective way to cut those high HIV/AIDS levels, especially as other medical services are very thinly spread and probably unaffordably expensive. The film is clear that circumcision reduces risk but does not eliminate it. It also makes clear that, while circumcision is not customary in Turkana, it is the norm in most of the rest of Kenya. So advocacy of male circumcision and resources to make it available are genuine contributions to public health and combat of disease. They are not some sinister form of racial discrimination or neo-colonial exploitation. I write as a native Kenyan.
@@Tom-sf4ue Nonsense. I'm English, we don't circumcise, many of us don't use condoms, yet there is a very low rate of HIV. Compare this to cultures outside of Africa who do circumcise boys and I bet the numbers are similar. HIV was invented in a lab to reduce the world's population. Pure and simple. Large scale research etc etc. This whole push to circumcise all African boys is BS. It is child abuse pure and simple. I'm a Mzungu who lives in Namibia and has travelled extensively througout east and Southern Africa since 1982 so I'm not fresh from the airport.
