Special Thanks to Koushik Kumar Vaddi
Vedic Sanskrit is the ancient dialect in which the Vedas, collections of hymns composed around 3,500-2,700 years ago by Indo-Aryan immigrants, were written. These hymns remain significant in Hinduism today, preserved through oral tradition. Regional recitation styles, known as śākhās, emerged over time, leading to some distortion of the original pitch accents and poetic meter. However, ancient grammarians detailed the Vedic pitch accent system, which, when applied, restores the original recitation style. Vedic Sanskrit holds importance in Indo-European historical linguistics due to its antiquity and similarity to other ancient Indo-European languages. The speakers of Old Indo-Aryan were nomadic pastoralists who settled in Northwest India, following a polytheistic Vedic religion. Vedic Sanskrit of the Ṛgvedá and the Classical Sanskrit of the Epic Mahābhārata, differ in terms of vocabulary, syntax, accentuation, pronunciation, and the usage of archaic tenses as much as Modern English differs from Shakespearean English.

Incredible. I can see why the discovery of the Indic languages was the final push for philology to become proper historical linguistics as we know it today. The similarities are so striking.
Besides the language, the vedas are full of wisdom and philosophy like a nectar , especially Upanishads.
I am a Kurd and the similarities are incredible. Only the Kurdish word fire is a good example.
Kurdish =agir
vedic=agnish
god of fire = agni

Similarities with every Indo-European languages is prevalent but above all Germanic and Slavic and even more so with Baltic (Lithuanian). But you can notice similarities with Latin and Greek as well
It’s crazy how some words jump out at you. Native Spanish speaker here. Western Romance language. Latin derived. The word that jumped out at me was dantas for tooth. In Latin, it was dentes or something like that. In Spanish, it became diente in the singular and dientes in the plural. I’m sure there are other words that will jump out at me if I pay attention but that one just really grabbed me.

In 3:06 Asura means demon in most Modern Indo Aryan languages and Classical Sanskrit.
But in Vedic Sanskrit the word Asura refers to gods. In many verses Gods are called Asuras in Rigveda. The correct term for demon in this language would be rakshasas (used in Modern Indo Aryan languages even today)
Asur meant those who are not gods as sur means gods
@@anujcool21 sur means sun.ahura hur means sun
Asuras are “God like” demons if you don't know 😂
Funnily enough in Kashmiri 'dyev' still means monster and "dyevzath" are a class of cannibalistic giants in Kashmiri mythology. At the same time we've 'osur' meaning asur (demon) but "Day" on the other hand means god.
@@Kryuhunhaput maybe the word day is direct descendant of the word daivas in Vedic Sanskrit and co incidently dyev has other origins
Vedic Samskrit and Avestan should be very very very similar!!!

I'm Cambodian and I recognize many words:

Foot = Bat (បាទ)
Golden = Sovanna (សុវណ្ណា)
Demon = Asorak (អសុរ)
Angel = Apsara (អប្សរា)
Land = Phoum (ភូមិ)
Mountain = Kiri (គិរី)
Sea = Samut (សមុទ្រ)
Pond = Srah (ស្រះ)
Sun = Sorya (សូរិយា)
Door = Tvea (ទ្វារ)
Chariot = Roteh (រទេះ)
Ancient = Boran (បុរាណ)
Cow = Kou (គោ)
Serpent = Neak (នាគ)
Human = Manous (មនុស្ស)
Head = Kbal (ក្បាល)
Cambodia was influenced heavily by Sanskrit (even the script is related to the ancient Brahmic script) so you will find a lot of loans in Khmer
Almost languages spoken i Southeast asia were influenced by sanksrit with exception vietnamese
I really like Cambodian music by singers like Sinn Sisamouth and Ros Serey Sothea, and I have noticed a few words that were of Indo-European origin. Apparently tara (តារា) (star) also comes from Sanskrit. That’s the first one that I thought of. Also youvochon (យុវជន) sounds like the word in the video that means young/adolescent male, so I wonder if there’s a connection there too.
looks like Cambodian was influenced by the Eastern prakrits from which todays Bangla emerged....cos most words are strikingly similar to modern Bangla words ... which uses more "O" sounds like this
Oh! Also chivit (ជីវិត) (life) was the first thing I noticed because I thought it sounded like the Slovak word život, and sure enough, the Khmer word was of Indo-European origin.
Nice Costume 👍🏻
This recitation of the sukta is excellent with perfect pronunciation.

This language had no script of it's own...in fact till it was in use there was no script to write it
Classical version today is written in devanagari mostly and many even use Regional scripts. But in past Brahmi (only Kushan, Gupta), Tocharian, Kharosthi, Sharada, Pallava, etc scripts were used to write it.
But at least the Rig Vedic text according to historians is very old, definitely compiled around 1.200 BC in the Kuru region now Haryana, and for thousands of year it was only memorized from generation to generation. Although with slight changes.
Meanwhile Homers ancient Greek poetry was also memorized and composed around 700 BC and written down later. But historians also think that Homer poetry also changed in subsequent times.
Ya they were orally passed down till classical
Both vedic And classical Sanskrit is always written in whatever script is native to that native region.
@@ShubhoBoseat the time of vedic sanskrit there wasnt any script , they were orally passed down
@@sahilsingh6048 Nah , the Vedic people probably knew of writing, since they were in contact with Tamils and Persians and the remnants of Harappa. It's just that they despised using writing for holy texts and important documents since:
1. Anyone can get secret information through illegitimate means .
2. Writing down decrees, especially religious ones, makes it easy for society to become rigid, or make people easily adulterate scriptures ( the latter is the reason for Sati, the letter gri was changed to gne, )
The Harappans shared a similar dislike for writing, which is why we can't decipher the script, as all inscriptions are too short

Does the ending ‘-as’ stand for nominative? It’s the same ending we have for the nominative masculine in Lithuanian.
Yes, actually it's just -s. Most words end with -a in Sanskrit. And similarly accusative is -m. Let's say your name is rāma, nominative will be rāmas and accusative will be rāmam. However, different genders and word-endings are conjugated differently.
