Pivots from a world conquest build to a change colour build, what a classic
The day was so bright it felt like the sun itself had joined the conspiracy against Prince Celje. He stood in what was left of his grand hall-half-ruined, thanks to the enthusiastic efforts of Austrian trebuchets-and stared at the peace treaty in front of him. It was stranger than any legend about dragons he'd been told as a child.
“So,” he began slowly, raising his eyes to the Austrian envoy, who stood there looking like a man attending a parade he wasn’t invited to, “you, the Austrian Empire, who smashed my army, besieged my city, and-might I add-made quite a mess of my castle, are asking me... to sign a document where you have to release your own vassals? Am I getting this right?”
The envoy, an elderly man with silver hair and the kind of calm demeanor one gets from delivering absurd treaties on a regular basis, cleared his throat gently.
“Exactly so, Your Highness.”
Prince Celje blinked, then blinked again, just to be sure. The silence in the hall was so thick it seemed ready to burst from an overdose of absurdity.
“And this,” the prince nodded slowly at the document, choosing his words carefully, “this is considered your victory?”
The envoy nodded, his face as unshakable as stone.
“Indeed, Your Highness. The Emperor was quite insistent you sign.”
Prince Celje squinted. Questions buzzed in his mind like flies over a pie. He turned back to the treaty and read it again, hoping the words might magically rearrange themselves into something that made sense. Release Albania, Serbia, and Bulgaria... Austria’s vassals. It was like celebrating a birthday by giving yourself all the presents back.
“So, are you absolutely sure this isn’t some kind of mistake?” the prince finally asked. “Maybe I’m supposed to sign another agreement? One where I acknowledge my defeat, not... force you to release your own vassals?”
“No mistake,” the envoy didn’t even blink. “It’s a new strategy. Geopolitics and all that.”
Prince Celje stared at the document, then at the envoy, and then back at the document again. Somewhere in the distance, he could hear a faint, hysterical giggle. He wasn’t sure if it was coming from him.
“Well, alright then,” he sighed, picking up the quill and scratching his name onto the paper. “I’ll sign, if it really helps your... what was it? ‘Grand strategic plan’?”
The envoy nodded gravely.
Prince Celje set the quill down and slowly handed the treaty over to the envoy, who bowed as if he had just sealed the most reasonable deal in the history of diplomacy, and left.
When the door finally closed behind him, Prince Celje, resting his hands on the table, slowly looked around at his advisors, who, judging by their expressions, were just as baffled as he was.
“So,” the prince said tiredly, “if anyone happens to figure out what just happened, do send them my way. I think I’ve had enough for today.”

this is the strategy I prefer for austrian WC. Developed it on my own. The thing I do differently is I try and get Trier or Mainz to get conquored by a neighbooring country. Then I give Milan the elector slot and PU milan off the event. Lots of AE but I manage it very well. Austrian Improve relations is OP

Fun fact when completing the imperial cities mission you can get a workshop in the tyrol gold mine making tons of gold and local produce modifier without increasing the depletion rate

after 20 years of integrating any vassal, you lose the annexed vassal opinion modifier. As long as you didnt annex anyone in the meantime. So, annex like 5-6 vassals in a row, then wait 20 years and annex a bunch more.
