I am definitely about to jump on the unspun bandwagon! I’m gonna go watch your other video first and keep learning! Thank you for all the great inspiration❤
Wow, you've gathered here a really beautiful collection of designs! I added quite a few to my knitting queue. And thank you for including my version of the Weekday dress in the video, Aimee! It's such an honor ♡
Thank you , thank you , thank you, thank you. I love unspun yarn and whilst NUTIDEN is probably the fav, i have used a number of others. Thank you, once again for the pattern references - I’ve already a few of your designs. Woodland Knits (liv Ulven) is another delight and Ailbiona McLochlainn is another. Melody Hoffman and Frida Oskap. 🤗
Hi. Thanks for a very informative video. I liked it a lot and it is really useful for me. You called for patterns written for unspun yarn. Have you seen the Purpurea Sweater by Teti Lutsak? It’s a beautiful cabled sweater made in Nutiden yarn. Have you tried to knit in just one strand of unspun yarn together with a strand of mohair, alpaca or something else? What gauge will you recommend for that? This summer I bought some plates of the Manchelopis, but I haven’t tried it yet because I think that two strands will be too thick for me. So I would like to try to add a strand of mohair instead. But it might be impossible to wrip back so I haven’t tried it yet
I knitted the Weekday Dress last winter & I will post more photos of this beauty soon on Instagram, I love it ! It's both cosy, warm & light to wear. I knitted the dress in Manchelopis and it was my first time knitting with unspun yarn : definitely an experience of itself. I bought then (but have not knitted it yet) the Mutsch Shawl by Isabell Kraemer, designed in Manchelopis by Wooldreamers. Thank you for the interesting video ! :)
Hi Aimee. I'm really enjoying your insights and explanations regarding the technical aspects of knitwear design and production, including this episode about working unspun into specific patterns. So great! Thank you. But I 'm interested in your take on this: I've been working with Nutiden for 4+ years and haven't noticed an overall increase in thickness of the yarn over time. There are definitely differences among colorways--some are thinner, some thicker, some denser, some fluffier, some hold together better, others break more easily. It depends on the various mixes of sheep breeds/fibers Caroline and Knut dye and blend for each colorway. Perhaps Caroline has noted in her podcast that their yarns are becoming thicker and I've missed it? or I haven't been working with Nutiden long enough? Their website states, "Thickness of Nutiden : remember that each colorway will always variate" and "Each colorway is different both in thickness and feelings [softness, toothiness, drape, etc.]." So it's interesting that you've noticed a change over time. Honestly, it would be great if this were true, since I've found the thinner, more breakable colorways almost impossible to work up, even doubled, without adding a laceweight strand of a spun yarn (e.g., silk/mohair). But I'm probably just not patient (or skilled) enough!
Yes, I believe the main production machinery, named Hera, had some of her parts changed out in... I wanna say late 2022? And that's when everything got much much thicker. I'm not sure if Caroline has said this or not, but it's just something I noticed in my own purchasing. And sometimes the breeds change and then the thickness varies generally too. I have another video all about working with Nutiden and how balling it up in double-strand balls, about baseball size, helps with breakage during working. So hopefully that helps you if you haven't seen it already!
Relatively new to your channel but have really enjoyed your recent round up videos. I’ve certainly added quite a few new patterns - many of yours!, and yarn to my wish list! 🧶
Knitting with unspun yarn while watching your video 😂❤. Thanks for the pattern recommendations. Have you tried the unspun from Hillesvåg? It is also very nice. Manchelopis was my first time and since then I cannot stop😂❤.
what a lovely and informational video! i just purchase my first 500g of nutiden and want to make a snow crocus as well-- would you recommend holding it double, and if so, does 500g sound right for a US small/med? its so hard to measure yardage, and i haven't been able to see any info anywhere!
I have your Matthew pullover that I want to knit, in my mind I would like to spin to knit it but not sure I can manage that yet. My question is how does the yarn wear if it’s unspun? Does it not just pill as soon as you put it on?

Amazing! I've been knitting for 30+ years, and I've never worked with unspun yarn. You've definitely inspired me to give this a try!
Really enjoyed this round up video, am planning to knit the Matthew pullover soon, I made the building blocks drop in nutiden last year and love it!

Very interesting video, thank you. I have never knit with an unspun and I really want to. This was helpful!

Thanks for posting this . I’m new to unspun yarn so I’ve been looking for projects !
You’re so welcome! Did any of them in particular jump out at you?
@@AimeeSherMakesyes the meditative wrap . I really liked hearing the thought process around the design !

I haven't! Thank you for the suggestion. I'm gonna go check that out now!!
Your face when you caught yourself sniffing the plate! 😂😂
It’s so hard to resist 🫠
Is it okay I want to knit in Mancheolpi because I love Manchego cheese? Thanks for the new idea!
Since unspun is pencil roving; have you ever used a handyed combed top braid and knit with it instead of spinning?
Thanks for your question! I have not, mainly because it would be really hard to draft it as evenly as a spinning mill can.

I think it’ll be enough! It’s roughly 500-550 yards per plate and obviously half that when held together. And yes held double for worsted or aran!

When you block it it slightly felts with itself and makes a cohesive fabric! I do get a little pilling but it stops pretty quickly as it melds.
