Instead of increasing the size of the hopper they should change the floor of the stock hopper to be at a steeper angle. This way, no more beans that end up just sitting in the hopper, refusing to fall in. And while they're at it, just put and anti-popcorning dome instead of the current flat thingy. There's a reason other grinders use a dome. It just needs to be wider than the opening, and voila, no more popcorning.
I think the reason they didn't do that is because it would be admitting they have a poorly designed hopper. The next logical conclusion people could make with such an admission is that they should be offering this replacement for free as a recall/warranty claim.
It should be pretty trivial to 3D print such a thing. How does this help with popcorning? Is it just because now you have the pressure of more beans on top holding them down?
I have the 078s and it's really not an issue to hot start. I just put the lid in the half way position, pour in the beans and close the lid. Never has a bean escaped!

Let's assume that this upgrade does the job and you can grind more coffee at once... where are we supposed to grind that amount of coffee if the catch cup is so small? 😆
@@IMNOTABARISTA the catch cup can hold up to 75grams of beans - what size of Pour Over would you want to brew that needs more than approx. 100gr of fresh grinded coffee? 2l at once? :D
There are many custom hoppers on etsy that are functionally far superior. Less stick and semi-slowfeeding and people are stil developing new stuff. The one I got has a twirling spire structure that completely prevents popcorning and is non-stick even with rdt, I would choose it over this any day.
It would be beneficial to see actual hot-grinding with this new chamber installed. Timemore....why not install it as standard on grinders that haven't been sent yet....like mine!😂 rather than as an upgrade.
Honestly, this should have been part of the design (as an included accessory) to begin with. This is my first serious grinder and its operation is already shrouded with controversy to a brand that I have supported all these years. Perhaps they (Timemore) should send all backers this accessory (for free) and also address the alignment/burr seasoning issues that we experience.

This was a pretty useless video of what seems like a pretty useless product. You don't even show the product in action and test if it actually prevents grounds from popcorning out. My guess is that it would recduce the amount, but it will not eliminate the problem and it does not prevent the popcorning it self.

In this case you want to see the product in action for at least a few seconds.... This also seems like a clear downgrade as the new lid is not magnetised and it looks worse overall without really solving the problem.

And they didn't even fix the main problem people have been having with the hopper - beans getting stuck due to the low feed angle inside the hopper.
Yes, that is an issue particularly if you use RDT.

It doesn’t stop 🍿 but it prevents beans flying like crazy, so grinding without covering the lid isn’t a big problem like before.

I have the same experience. However, the pop corning is still prominent. Sometimes a bean can bounce around before getting ground for quite some time.
Same here with the 64, lid halfway open, start, pour the beans (up to 30 grams) and close the lid. Not a single bean has pop outside

Nope, it is not fixed on the machine but it stays there like one piece while grinding

I think a 100-200gr capacity hopper would be more interesting
It is a 200g hopper, but 078s has a 60 seconds grinding time limit, which means you may not reach 100g in one grind.
