    The only music I've heard that was genuinely frightening. Incredible to think that he could have this in his head, could write it down, and actually make it real.

      I totally agree. I think ages ago I made a similar statement on one of Ligeti's pieces. One kind of a mind does one have, to conceive this kind of music and then transcribe it ? Unbelievable, Uttter Genius !

      @Emy - the kind of music that your inner voice whispers, "get ready to pi$$ your pants" music...."Atmospheres" frightened me for three years after I first saw 2001 when I 6, in 1871....still a little cold still even today, but no more letting the water flow....LOL

    The voices in this work inspired the sound effects accompanying the hulkout and change-back scenes in the series The Incredible Hulk starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno.

    I never heard any original music composition that genuinely freaked me out and gave me an anxiety that didn't seem to end like this movie. I lie, rob zombies witches of Salem had a really creepy song that gave me chills.. other famous horror movie soundtracks have a creepy feeling but this is another level with the swells and rises.

    It is sad to read that Kubrick never asked the composer György Ligeti for permission and did not pay any licenses. Neither for "2001" nor for "The Shining" and also not for "Eyes Wide Shut". His / MGM's message to the famous but hardly financially successful composer was that "he should be happy to have been included".

      What he did was he distorted some of it (Adventures) for effect. not telling Ligeti about it, and THAT pissed Ligeti off. That is the story I've heard. It was used during the scene where Bowman starts wandering about in that room.

    • @michaelhall2709
      @michaelhall2709 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ulfingvar1Yes, that’s entirely correct. Ligeti actually sued the production for intentionally distorting his music without his permission - and won.

      It is difficult to even say this, but I don't think there are any. I've seen the "score" for Penderecki's "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima for 52 stringed Instruments" and I have a recording of it and all I can tell you is it does not look anything like a score for a work of music.
