My favorite Deep Purple song! It's fun to play like and is versatile, meaning the group I played with would include it as part of a medley. Thanks for taking a listen, Bisscute, and Merry Christmas!
Thanks for another unique BISS reaction to one of my all time favourite bands. You know, when Ian Gillan and Ritchie Blackmore weren't fighting with each other, DP produced some of the best hard rock in the history of music. Any song off the Machine Head or Perfect Strangers albums is just gold as well as In Rock or Who Do You Think We Are. Each musician in this band are top level. When they reunited for this album, they came to my city (Canberra, the Capital of Australia), I was over the moon. Seeing them live (now 3 times) was one of the highlights of my musical journey. Now, if I can only get Babymetal to pay a visit..........
This was Deep Purple's reunion album after many years. "Machinehead" was the last album this lineup recorded before Ian Gillan (the singer) was replaced by David Coverdale. One of the most powerful rock albums of all time. Two major bands formed from DP's break up: Richie Blackmore's Rainbow and Whitesnake!
The way Ian sings my favorite rock lyric line "I know I must remain inside this silent well of sorrow" STILL blows me away. As do the rest of the lyrics. I was a die hard Deep Purple fan by the time this came out, but the Perfect Strangers tour was the first time I saw them live. It was NOT the last. The next time they blew me away this much, it was with their Perpendicular album, and new guitarist Steve Morse's introductory notes to the opening track "Vavoom: Ted The Mechanic". You should check that out, or perhaps even better, the live version of Speed King on the Perihelion tour - the musical interaction between Steve Morse and Jon Lord is amazing, and the rest of the band is absolutely at the top of their game.
Amen, exactly my sentiments. Perfect Strangers and Purpendicular are two of my favorite albums. In 1985, in Sweden, you had to be in a telephone queue to get a ticket, unless you wanted to sleep outside for 2-3 days. They phoned up and I said that I wanted eight tickets for the concert. Sorry, it is sold out, they said. But there is an extra concert on Saturday. It is also sold out. There is an extra concert on Sunday. There are tickets left, is that OK? They were absolutely brilliant. I have then seen them in 1987 and four or five times with Steve Morse. "Live at the Olympia" is one of my favorite albums.
This came out when I was in High School, generally We had the "New Wave" kids (Duran Duran, New Order, Thompson Twins, kind of sound) and the "Heavy Metal" kids; at the time it was very "Hair" metal heavy. Deep Purple were like "old people" music at that point, they started in the 60's with Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath. But honestly, all the musicians in DP are pretty good to amazingly great. In the U.S. Ritchie Blackmore never got the attention He deserved (so many guitar players). I really think He sees music in colors or something, His solos feel grand, sweeping, and kind of 'exotic'. This album rocks so hard though. I remember blasting it on the way home from closing up the McDonald's I worked at. Those guys are really amazing.
I think you're right. I'm a Gen Xer, and when I was young, the song "Smoke On The Water", and particularly the riff from that song were very iconic, but outside of that, I've never really known that much of anything else from Deep Purple. I know they're considered one of the early hard rock bands that were the foundation of heavy metal, like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, and maybe I just wasn't enough of a metal head, but I obviously know a lot more about Zeppelin and Sabbath. I don't really know why that is.
Perfect Strangers was the first Deep Purple studio album in nine years. Perfect Strangers is also the first album with the Mk II line-up in eleven years, the last being Who Do We Think We Are (1973). They were working with other bands, Ritchie Blackmore and Roger Glover arrived from Rainbow, Ian Gillan from Black Sabbath, Jon Lord from Whitesnake, and Ian Paice from Gary Moore's backing band.
I remember when this came out, the guys were not doing very well on their own, yet they did not like each other. The $$$$$ spoke and they got back together... Yet each guy must remain a Perfect Stranger to the others. Then they will stay together as a band. It was a great concert for this tour, I paid 9 dollars for a ticket.... On the night of the show!!
Great song and great reaction! You hit this one right on the button with the guitar riffs! I love the riffs in this song! Another 80's gem thanks for sharing Biss! You are still my #1 80's Rocker Girl!🤟🤟❤️💛
Their reunion in 1984 with Ian Gillian, vocalist. Another great track on that LP is "Knocking at Your Back Door". You will love the build up at the beginning. Reminds me of the Jaws movie theme. Other great Deep Purple tracks include Space Truckin' & Woman From Tokyo " from different LPs 😊❤.
One of the greatest rock bands of all time Ritchie Blackmore founding member and also one of our greatest guitarist of Deep Purple along with Ian Gillan Dave Coverdale Roger Glover. Great reaction Biss and i am happy sorted my problem so i can start commeting again❤
My tip is the participation of the iconic Deep Purple vocalist - Ian Guillan - with the legendary members of Black Sabath on the album "Born Again". Listen to the song of the same name. satisfaction guaranteed.
Good reaction Biss. I don't know the reason either maybe it was management they needed to tour more because I don't have TH-cam and other means to put their stuff out there😊
This is a great reunification album for the band. Deep Purple, along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath were given a nickname of “The Unholy Trinity of British Rock” since they all formed about the same time in England. Very cool song. Great reaction 👍
Good morning Bisscutie! Deep Purple caused a huge stir when they first appeared on the radio. Great guitars, vocals, keyboards with a unique sound. Although they were overplayed, especially Smoke on the Water which became a meme.
Loved reaction biss, I've never herd this song, Ritchie blackmore is a great gitarest, they have a real full sound with the synthesizer to,thy would have been great to hear in Concert, your so cute, i hope you love spain❤😊
Please give "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch" a listen. It's a hard rock/metal version of the song from the cartoon. The singer's voice is so I think you'll _LOVE_ it. _DEEP._
Hi Bisscute. Greetings from Edmonton, Canada 🇨🇦. I really enjoyed your reaction to this great song. I highly recommend listening to another version of this song which has Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden as guest vocalist. It’s great as well. Take care and Merry Christmas to you 😁
Biss I have a song request for a band called "steely dan" you said you like live recordings this song on utube on TKV it's called " black cow" it a mixed drink ,if you hear this version it sounds stereo and it the original from 1980 and they use Professional musisions the sax is amazing on this song they make top tier music I hope you can here them some day there a mix of jazz & soft rock the other music reactors love there music❤😊
No you're not head banging that hard I was at a concert and it was a thrash band Metallica and I whip my head forward it's another guy whipped his head back at the same time we bumped heads I bloodied my nose and gave him a good-sized lump on the back of his head and we both just laughed it off and kept going lol in fact that I had hair down to pass the middle of my back
Maybe the music is too complex. I have seen som people complain when live versions are not identical to the dong they know from radio etc. Or that they prefer studio versions. People with that mindset totally miss the point with Purple, where part of the excitement is discovering something different in yet another live version. Love your reactions 👍💐
because it is rock music not pop music played on the radio and tv all the time, bands like deep purple, pink floyd, led zepellin were album bands not really single bands or mainstream radio or tv.......................
Deep purple the trinity of metal bon Jovi style not a patch on deep purple look at the awesome members other bands from deep purple is rainbow white snake cool bands
My favorite Deep Purple song! It's fun to play like and is versatile, meaning the group I played with would include it as part of a medley. Thanks for taking a listen, Bisscute, and Merry Christmas!
This was the reunited DP band in '84. Ian Gillan (vocals) left DP in '73...he was in Black Sabbath in '83; the year before this reunion.
One of the greatest hard rock band in the history of music! The album is perfect!
This album introduced me to Deep Purple. I love this entire album. Thanks to you, Biss, for bringing these great artists to the younger generations!🤘🤘
Great Song
The Whole Album is Great. That’s one of my favorite songs from Deep Purple. 🤘🔥🤘🔥
Great song. When I first heard it I ran for my guitar to learn the signature riff; d-d-dum d-d-dum d-d-dum.

Actually “Who Do We Think Are” was the last Mk 2 album.
I saw them for the Perfect Strangers tour at the Cow Palace in Daly City CA. They killed it.
As comeback musical statements go, this one is as good as it gets.
Hi Biss thanks for the video and your reaction highly appreciate❤great song I rock with this

Deep Purple? Updoooooot!
I think that next DP's song in your playlist - FOOLS...!! ))

Those guys are really amazing.
You really need to react to Deep Purple’s performance of the song “Burn” at the California Jam in 1974. It will blow your mind
Good tune, next up by DP should be Knocking at Your Backdoor 😮

Richie Blackmore once told that this is hes favorite Deep Purple number tho it dosnt has a guitar solo.
Riff is just badass
