The Ferrari 488 Spider is, as the title suggests, the retractable-hardtop version of the wonderful 488GTB. Although Ferrari isn't using a carbon tub for the 488, leading to a slight loss in chassis rigidity compared to the coupe, there's no reason I can't call this wonderful piece of engineering the finest, most well-rounded, and most impressive car I've driven all year long.

Awesome content but man I miss when one takes were like 15+ minutes long, I definitely would've enjoyed even a 20 min video cause this thing is just brilliant
d1pz9 average watch time is around 7 minutes so I'm consciously trying to make the videos a little shorter to be in line with that.
I prefer the shorter videos, I like what your currently doing keep it up 👌🏼
I think what I find is that in the second half of the videos I rarely have much to add. I kinda get it all done before the U-Turn and then end up saying the same stuff over, or asking the owner questions which may or may not be significant. It doesn't feel like very long in the car even at 15 minutes, but I think if I can get the average from 14 minutes down under 10 minutes, that would be a good thing.
TheSmokingTire Im sure a lot of people are here for more than just you talking about the car but also for the driving, including myself. I wouldnt mind even if you had a portion of the video where you dont talk at all, especially with cars like this. But if u figured that this would be your way to go then thats all right i guess

Carguments what makes me the happiest is where I meet fans on the street and everyone is just so nice and they say "I bought this car or that car" because of your video. I like real life interaction.
Matt quick question, what about other youtubers that shit on Ferrari ( they say that is only for collectors and Ferrari as a company have no clear direction) and say that a McLaren is way better is that true or they just hate on it just to attract attention and controversy on their channel.
I don't watch anyone else's videos, so I have no idea what people are saying or why they are saying it. I couldn't be less interested in what other people are saying about the car, frankly. Everything I need to know about the 488 I learned by driving it.

The 488 is the first supercar I've driven, both in coupe and convertible form, where I genuinely would be thrilled to daily drive it in LA. The ride is fucking ridiculously good; better than 95% of the luxury cars I test.
That's amazing considering it's got 20 inch rims and low-profile tires.
It's a beautiful car, but when I compare 488's sound with that F355 GTS from the video a while back... The older Ferrrari is just a different league
I recognize that this is a Ferrari, but I wish you would drive all the cars in this manner. Watching the 997 and this video back to back and one of the videos you are taking a Sunday stroll with a calm dialogue with the owner driving like you might in an econobox, but this one you went after it a bit which is much more fun to watch (maybe it was the bad hankooks on the 911?).
If you're talking about the recent 997 Carrera S video, combine the fact that Mt. Wilson road is exponentially tighter and narrower than Angeles Crest Highway, and it was very dirty and slick, and the owner was riding with me in a decade-old 911 compared to a brand new Ferrari with more than double said 911's horsepower, after I'd had the Ferrari for 4 days instead of just jumping in it and saying 'go,' and on and on and on.....

Maybe, but the 355 drives like shit compared to the newer Ferraris. And not having to remove the freaking engine for a belt change saves quite a few bucks too.

Indeed but that's because it's a 355, imo, the best sounding production flat plane crank v8 ever made that 5 valve is just glorious. This though is, also imo, the best sounding flat crank Ferrari v8 since the 360.
Call me a purist but I prefer the 458 sound over this. Nothing like it at 8500rpm XD

I used to be in the camp that preferred the 458 for it's naturally aspirated sound but like you said, this still sounds amazing. Combined with the sharper looks and big performance improvements the 488 brings, I think I'm in camp 488 now too and I haven't even driven one yet lol. Must have been awesome to have one of these as a press loaner! It was great seeing you have a blast.
458 in this colour with a manual box. Perfection.
The colour is called Blu Corsa, specifically launched for the 488 Spider. It's about a $24,000.00 option.

The color is fucking spectacular, it really is. $24k seems like an insane price for it, but when you consider what other options cost, for instance "Rosso Corsa Metallic" is $12k and I cannot, for the life of me, tell the difference between that and regular Rosso Corsa, which is free.
Mclaren has 60k color option for there color shift paint that goes from blue to purple to green. It kind of reminds me of the old days when Ford had the mystichrome paint for the 2003-2004 SVT Cobra and 1996 Cobra mystics...
+TheSmokingTire Blu Corsa is such a beautiful colour indeed. But let's not lose sight of what you're really buying for $24,000.00 as an extra option, exclusivity, Ferrari's primary product. And, yes, it's often hard to tell the difference between a lot of their colour shades. I feel the same way with their Blu Nart and Blu Abu Dhabi, etc.

Yea it doesn't mean what you probably think it means. I'm red/green color blind and I have trouble distinguishing between the two colors in certain situations. Colors can seem off, not what you see, like the green light at a stop light looks more white than green. I cannot distinguish whether or not the stop light is red or yellow. I have to look at what position the light is in, like middle or top light. I will say the few times I smoked pot, colors became very vibrant to me. It was almost like I could see what everything actually looked like, as opposed to the dulled down version I see everyday. I could have just been high af though idk.

The 488 has grown on me since it's release, but I think I'd still prefer a 458 for it's appearance/sound and price.

I prefer the looks of the 458 Spider too. Front looks better, engine cover looks beautiful. There's nothing aesthetic I prefer about the 488 other than the side intakes.

I think at lower revs, it sounds better than the (just as false) 458. A 675LT and a 488 Spider are my two dream supercars at the moment.

Yeah and F12M is coming out soon, which I believe still is without an electric motor.
Because that's really more of a facelift of the f12 then a full on new model
488 has a lot of the same elements 458 had, so you can call it a big facelift too.
True but since adding a hybrid might take more work then adding turbos they are probably waiting for the next model

Wow, you're driving a freaking mid 10 second Ferrari that probably traps about 140 mph in the 1/4 mile bone stock! OMG, I would love to even be a passenger just to feel that kind of acceleration. The fastest car I've ever been in or driven was my father's old Procharged among other mods, 550 RWHP 2002 C5 Z06 Corvette. He ran a best of 11.1 @ 130 and change in the 1/4 mile with that Vette on the factory Good Year Eagle F1 Supercar tires on it. Due to traction issues, he was never able to get it into the 10's on the factory street tires, but let me just say to anyone who hasn't felt acceleration like this in a car... It pins your head back into the seat and you get this awesome rush feeling like the car is going to lift off the ground and go airborne! I could only imagine what this Ferrari must feel like. Especially as a passenger when you're not in control of the car. That must be sick!!

It is probably the best approach to turbocharging so far. However, I don't get any pleasure from hearing turbo noises. It sounds tunery.
Besides weight, I still think that hybrid+NA would be the best combo. Proper sound but still immense torque. And on paper, the emissions might be ok too but who cares.
