@SplitScreen2 ah then if that is the case. Avoid making Twitter posts that aren't just about game engine updates. Because Twitter is a ceasepool of drama frogs.
Bro, I think that's the thing. As far as I understand, Godot also exists on user donations. Those people voluntarily send money to the developers so that they can work on the engine. When this situation happened, this is what happened. People first realized that they were not respected for their money and loyalty. And also - that they do not want to support developers with such a position towards users. Since they do not want to support, it means they will leave. And since they leave, then the funding of Godot will be reduced, which will slow down the development of new versions, bug fixing and general development of functions. That Godot will turn from an actively developing and "independent" engine into an eternally "old version" that will lag behind other engines and get bogged down in bugs. To be honest, I'm not sure that a huge number of people will leave. Even the most "sensitive" and "offended" will not go far. Many people use Godot - for years, and people are reluctant to change their habits. Many go to a distant gas station, even when a new one opens near their home - "They're so used to it, they know everyone there." It's the same here. Leaving Godot means changing your habits. By and large, this will only affect the person who leaves. We won't know about it, and the Godot developers don't care. Besides, most of the donaters are men. And men are very reluctant to admit that they invested money in "emptiness". That's why many cannot live for years even with a woman who does not love and does not appreciate them because "I invested so much in this relationship". And here he is on a voluntary basis - he donated for many years, got offended and left, forgetting about the money. Most likely, nothing will change. Everyone will yell at each other, accuse each other, swear, and then - angry and sweaty - they will go make their 2D platformers, in which "I wrote everything correctly and nothing works."
I am glad you made this video. I feel like this should be the same attitude for all Godot Devs. It sucks that the management of the Godot Foundation and Discords had to get political and say stupid things. To me Godot is just a means to an end. I just happen to really enjoy the Godot engine quite a lot. It's sad politics have to get in the way of things. Anyone who likes games and game development should be welcome. Individual personal opinions and views shouldn't matter here, and the ability to separate 'professional' from 'personal' is a skill some people really need to work on.
My opinion is that this does not matter. In fact, like the rest, I almost clicked “do not show this video” and I just happened to ‘click’ it. Revenge forks do not last too long, and the people mad about something kind of petty is wrong. I do not give a shit. If you think running a FOSS project should be done out of concern for all users, but you did it because you didnt agree with some users. That is not developing. That is blatant abusing. I will fork the fork, and probably build it all the same. If the devs are being smart, they will probably try and aim for ABI compatibilitywith Godot, at least to start. But as someone who has been building since 4.2 and now writing my own engine, I think the fork has one of three fates. 1. The fork is successful and it becomes a better Godot. (best case scenario). Successful here may just mean it works, it is capable, and can ship games. Which is what everyone cares about it. 2. The fork is semi successful and it becomes developed alongside Godot (most realistic scenario). Probably also may help that this can mean the project still uses the Godot ‘skin’, but it will be somewhat distinct focusing on some other aspects neglected. Perhaps patches and dev backing? 3. The fork flops, and it becomes developed against Godot. This will just mean the fork wont garnet as much prestige as the original. Happens all the time. Probably what happens here is the engine becomes a radical fork, it changes everything, ABI Changes be damned. Which can be a good thing. It is basically the scenario of “We cant compete with the OG on its terms, so we do so on our terms.” Most people, even the ones are hacker news are saying it will not do to well. Historically, this has happened with languages. Rust became Crab. D got a fork. Nim got a fork. But so far, none of…replaced it. D was also very recently forked too, so its fate is not too certain. Applications forks however, all that said, sometimes do slightly better. Best case here is how Libreoffice was forked from Openoffice.
Mostly sounds like manufactured outrage. Woke may be a silly word when used by non-black people. That's all it is. Silly. People that get offended by it are only offended because they've been told to be. They should try having original thoughts.
So much copium going on! People saying so long as the engine works who cares about the drama, well the end user cares! People said so long as the game works nobody will care that SBI worked on it, yet every title associated with them is immediately nuked by their target customers. Gamers are in a full scale culture war with woke and woke is losing embarrasingly! Make your games with Godot engine if you like but dont be surprised when the gaming community boycot it because you chose the wrong side in the unfolding culture war! Rather than ignore the drama and get on with development, Godot have publicy, loudly picked a lane and attacked, doubled down and attacked again the gaming community and im telling you now that if you choose to make a product in this space with this tainted engine your bottom line will suffer when you ask gamers to buy it! Ignore Twitter drama.
@@sandmasterflexignoring negative impacts is not the same as avoiding negative impacts.
@SplitScreen2 ah then if that is the case. Avoid making Twitter posts that aren't just about game engine updates. Because Twitter is a ceasepool of drama frogs.
Life goes on Just make games!
Hope they fix this, reprimand the one responsible, and in a year this becomes something we laugh about.
Everyone will yell at each other, accuse each other, swear, and then - angry and sweaty - they will go make their 2D platformers, in which "I wrote everything correctly and nothing works."
the oligarchy.
Not necessary, don't care. Just continue with normal videos
I am glad you made this video. I feel like this should be the same attitude for all Godot Devs. It sucks that the management of the Godot Foundation and Discords had to get political and say stupid things. Yet at the end of the day, they do not define what Godot is. This is just drama fuel for drama channels to dramatically make dramatic content for something that is dramatically irrelevant to reality.
Not worried, I do not follow those things. Let's just make our games!
i dont care about politics and i dont like people who bring politics into everything like godot community manager. If redot was as good as godot. i would probably switch to redot.
What a privilege to not care about politics
fighting against human hate just because you are not into the other gender IS NOT political!
the manager was dumb for blocking so many people (a lot deserved it though) but supporting LGBT people has nothing to do with politics!
@@OffiGameWave here's the thing. We don't want to hear it. It's a game engine. Please don't use the company's social media account to push your agenda and use the same account to ban anyone who doesn't say anything positively about the post.
Теперь я в ожидании Redot потому что опенсорсные проекты должны быть вне политики.
all this lgbtecsauasdhf topic is going out of hands
It is basically the scenario of “We cant compete with the OG on its terms, so we do so on our terms.”
Most people, even the ones are hacker news are saying it will not do to well.
I generally agree with everything here, my only worry is that people were getting banned from github for the mildest of disagreements.
Let's use this situation to figure out Flax Engine. Seems like a decent alternative to both Unity and Godot?
Mostly sounds like manufactured outrage. Woke may be a silly word when used by non-black people. That's all it is. Silly. People that get offended by it are only offended because they've been told to be. They should try having original thoughts.
Touch grass, its a nothing burger that makes good content for grifters.
Godot is toast, if you want your projects to succeed i suggest you read the writing on the wall.
Stick your opinion up your arse
Don't care for the drama as long as the engine is functional. I hate this political nonsense.
Well for engine to be functional, it must be maintained by people. But then the engine polarize people, not to mention, ban some maintainers from pulling request on github
@@khlua4590 I wouldn't want to use code that's maintained by hateful people thanks
sorry but cults who in power of moderation of Godot need to be removed also theyr very authoritarian.
I have been developing my game for more than a year. This "Godot is now woke" politics has tainted Godot and it leaves a sour taste in my mouth, because anything that goes woke dies. Godot was my bliss in this miserable world. It will be good to have Redot.
Yeah, Godot will live on. It's just disappointing the Godot Team and Foundation have chosen politics over community and engine development.
keep the politics out.
switching to redot should be pretty easy.
cuz it's good old godot forked by a kid
forking without a pillar community behind makes little sense. for now it's vaporware
@@lordmuaddib i fork often.
@@aslkdjfzxcv9779 i'm not against it, on the contrary. what i mean is that forking is not enough to continue development, you need people.
everyone should just flee from the existing communities, so people in charge might see what bulshit theiy are smoking. it's probably easier than just start over from scratch with nobodies
Community manager manages community, reactionaries react.
thats a lie
Which bit? Someone got butt hurt about a tweet and got (temporarily) muted on the discord, so they went to github and twitter to make a fuss and got themselves blocked. Community manager does job of community manager and manages community.
Grifters and reactionaries pick up on this "active developer" getting blocked and spam _more_ hate, resulting in more blocks and an overwhelmed moderation team. If anyone got caught in the crossfire they'll have already appealed and been unblocked by now. The only people blocked on github during this (5 people) are the ones making the spurious pull requests/issues.
@@TheSane42 It was not an isolated case; they don’t even claim that with their propagandistic lies. It was HUNDREDS of people. And NO, the work of a community manager is not to ban people recklessly. Are you defending the right to censorship and the continuous mistreatment of the community? Just because you or they assign a label from a minority? No one did anything inappropriate, and this unleashed lunatic started it along with the other mods who have always been this way. This is not an isolated case; they have always been this stupid... they started banning everyone. As I told Juan before this happened, if any other company did this, there would have been an uproar, and little scandal has been made because people keep whitewashing the crimes and human rights violations of these scumbags without any empathy for those who have made them rich with the free and voluntary work of millions of people. And no, they don’t unban people from their godlike altar, believing they have the right to live like this... no, they don’t do that. These people don’t do that. They are not impartial. They always blame others, and in this case, they invent lies to justify their actions. There is no justification for banning anyone who asks something completely normal, like "what happened?" and who has also been banned.
@@jamad-y7m That was supposedly said by the big boss of the old official server; maybe that's why they made the stupid decision to create another Discord and turn it into a place that crushes gays and leftists alike... but the problem is that they are anti-egalitarian. They can disrespect people in crazy ways, and we all have to stay quiet and don’t even have the right to ask or express an opinion about anything (said by this same person), and this toxic culture is present throughout the entire leadership.
@@jamad-y7m A mod/owner of a different, unofficial discord using the nword while referring to himself a decade ago. How very relevant.
You may not fuck with politics but they sure as hell fuck with you and your loved ones. It's not a big deal and we can keep doing what we're doing.
You have to engrave it in your head, your opinion is not that important. The game engine has nothing to do with your life choices and personal tastes, Godot does not owe you anything, it has more years of development than you have in life, they want to cancel everything so as not to see another point of view
It's an open source game engine not something to be a platform for 'another point of view'. Whether it's my own beliefs or one I disagree with, none of it should exist on their platform. It should be a neutral space as much as is possible.
Take your meds
I didn't consider the call to show your woke games as bad, but the extreme behavior of the mods and Godot's statement are. A group that want to 'cleanse' people with all their power? Why would I want to support such a group or want to base my game on anything those people create? Maybe growing up in Europe/Austria made me a bit sensitive to the heritage of my history, but I simply can't support such an intolerant and hateful behavior.
Haters just finding a reason to hate.
I will continue using godot.
In this instance.
BUT.
I am fed up of this woke nonsense.
And I would appreciate if Godot founder would take a step back from politics.
Thanks to this, games made in godot are being boycotted.

It's a shame Juan f-ed up. Godot got more than 2M usd all time in donations. And they are using this money to fly these cl owns to conventions in Europe and now this. It's a shame because it will impact the development of the engine even more than their mismanagement of resources already did. I would hope that Redot would do a better job, but let's be honest Godot depends on Juan's skills he is the main piece of why the engine is what it is and now he will have to compete for resources.
