This show was my childhood. And it's not even one of those, "I saw this as a kid. But on rewatch, I realized a lot of fond memories were just nostalgia". This show is genuinely just that good
I remember when it first came out, Nick was running all sorts of promos to hype it up. And I loved it but for whatever reason I fell off before the end of season 2? And I rewatched it in 2020 (along with everyone else in the world) and was shocked that not only was it as good as I remember, it was even better. One of my all time fav shows now.
Avatar The Last Airbenders is one of the best animated shows ever!! It is the perfect combination of the eastern and western animation styles and the story is so engaging and has great character development. You can actually see the characters growing up as individuals and in their relationships. And let's not forget the best redemption arc ever made.
I remembering hearing about Avatar The Last Airbender in middle school and saw the opening on tv, then I finally watched it and binged it. Then when it came on Netflex my husband and me re-watched it together. Our daughter was 2 at the time, anytime anything happened to Sokka, she would yell out, "Oh no, Sokka!" while carrying around my Appa plush.

3:11 in Sokka’s defense, I’m like 99% sure that’s kinda the values they were raised with. Like in the 1950s (and before and sometimes after) people thought that women “belong in the kitchen” and should stay at home etc. And when Katara talks about the war she says, “my father and the men of my tribe…” and later their grandma said “come one Katara, you have chores.” But she doesn’t say anything to Sokka or the younger boys. Also the water tribes (or at least the southern tribe) are based on the inuit tribes. And in their culture, (the rules and traditions) (This is based on what I’ve heard and googled so if this is wrong pls forgive me! 😅) -a feast was held when an Inuit BOY killed his first seal or caribou. -Women were married when they reached puberty, and men were married when they could provide for a family. Women were traditionally responsible for the butchering, skinning, and cooking of animals taken by the hunters (men).
Show starts out good & gets better. Hope y’all enjoy, really like all your observations-this show has so much to appreciate, one of the reason it’s endured so long. And the animation does get better and eventually is HD, especially the last season. Excited to be on the journey with y’all 🎉❤
In my opinion Avatar the Last Airbender remains a high-water mark for animation in the 2000's. It's sequel series didn't do so well, but considering the titanic shoes it had to fill, could you even be surprised by that?
And also because Nickelodeon was working against the creators nearly every step of the way. Legend of Korra could have been as great as The Last Airbender, if only the creators had had the resources and support.
M. Night Shaliman wanted to make a movie his children could actually go see, hence his treatment and shift from general East Asian to Sub Continent Asian style and culture. M. Night is a master of the "R" rated suspense with shocking plot twists scary movies. Not something you would or even can take the Nickelodeon or Disney Channel target audience to see.
For those of you who dont know Johnsowhat94 made a meme joke where the King says there is no war in ba sing se and in another instance the queen said there are no air benders in ba sing se in alok

Speaking of drowning and hypothermia, I'm from Alaska and there's a saying that goes "you're not dead till you're warm and dead." Because the freezing temperatures can actually preserve your body long enough to be resuscitated. It's still very dangerous to go out in the cold waters though.
Yall are going to enjoy this show for sure, definitely recommend rewatching the opening again. It has a lot of setup, and answers a lot of the questions you guys had. As you will find out, this show has a ton of lore and story
The next episode is nuts, believe me. BTW I am so happy You started this journey, cuz as someone who was born in CZ in 2005 when I was like 4, Ben 10 and Avatar: The Last Airbender were running on TV then there were DVDs of TMNT from 2003 my childhood was amazing

Super excited for you guys to start ATLA! It was such a big part of my pre-teens. Seeing a lot of reaction channels reacting to it and it's great to follow everyone's journey watching it :)
I dont believe it was mentioned in the show, but Aang's airbending keeps him warm in the south pole. He can canonically manipulate the air around him to become warm so he doesn't freeze, although he's probably really chilly too.
I love Avatar the last Airbender im just about 30 and saw this when It came out & I was a kid back then plus the guy who voices Prince Zuko is the same guy who plays Ruphio in the movie Hook with Robin Williams in it his name is Dante Basco
I watched this for the first time a few years ago after hearing non stop how great it was and YUP this show is goated. Can't wait for you to get into how complex all the characters and situations are for this NICKELODEON show.
I don't know how many Avatar fans know this cuz I only found out last year. The four elements are also associated with the four seasons of the year. So the first six episodes are in Autumn (Air) then the solstice episode is the start of Winter (Water). Book 2 is Earth starts with the start of Spring. And Season 3 Fire finale is the final day of Summer.
This is a show that starts off strong, and continues on stronger. Season 1 is good, but Season 2 ad Season 3 are just a barrage of non-stop amazing episodes, ending with a fantastic finale. Definitely worth going through the whole thing.
It happens every few years and it never doesn't stun me to my core how many people STILL don't know about Last Airbender. I've never seen Starwars in my life and can recount the entire plot of it from start to finish through cultural osmosis. Surely there shouldn't be anyone left unspoiled at this point.
So here's a fun fact: All forms of bending are based on real-life forms of Chinese martial arts. T'ai chi was chosen as the basis for waterbending because of its focus on alignment, body structure, breath, and visualization. Hung Gar was the basis for earthbending because of its focus on its firmly rooted stances and powerful strikes as a representation of the solidity of earth. Northern Shaolin was chosen for firebending because of its strong arm and leg movements. And Ba Gua was chosen for airbending because of its dynamic circular movements and quick directional changes. The show actually had a professional martial artist, Sifu Kisu of the Harmonious Fist Chinese Athletic Association, on as a consultant to help create the different bending styles and demonstrate the real world fighting styles. It's actually pretty impressive that they did all that, TBH.
I’m seriously jealous you guys get to experience this show for the first time now, this show is my favourite and I’m positive you guys will love it as well
I adore, looking back, at how complex this show is even at the pilot. Like you start out following two siblings fishing for their village and arguing and you might question why kids are doing labor, then they find this airbender, then you see their tribe and how small and decrepit it is, and how few members their are. Then you find out all the air nomads are extinct, no idea why, and as brief as it is we do see it have an affect on Aang. Then we realize there’s a war, and that’s why the tribe is so unpopulated, why Katara is the only waterbender, why the airbenders are gone. It’s all so good and subtle and I love it so much.
I know it’s early to mention, but hope you watch Legend of Kora after, it’s the sequel series set after this one! There are some less liked parts of it but overall I still love it!
I am loving all the questions and scenarios you all giving! This is truly some of the best storytelling ever to be on TV. I'm going to enjoy your reactions.
Aang is 1 million times the character Luffy is. He is substantive, has multiple angles, experiences emotions and reacts to them, learns from mistakes, etc. Luffy likes meat and fighting.
"My Hero Academia ripped off Avatar!" You have absolutely no idea, MHA rips off entire plot elements from this show and it's the most blatant and obvious thing possible.
Oh, not like that is EVER a thing in Japanese anime, am I right?! Plots, characters and tropes are regularly recycled. Copying what sells is easy, innovation is hard...just ask Hollywood! */;p
@@johnnygnoneeded Most of the stuff that keeps repeating itself are just staples of the shonen genre: the rival character, tournament arc, old man mentor, etc. Even when specific ideas are copied, they usually put a new spin on it, or change how it looks, such as the whole "I have a demon inside me that gives me a cool transformation" trope that started with Devilman, that series like Bleach, AoT, Parasyte, and Chainsaw Man have all done a version of. All the stuff ripped from Avatar is borderline plagiarism, it's one thing to put in nods to a series you like, but so many plot elements are replicated verbatim at this point.

Best exposition intro ever, in my opinion. If you pay attention to it, some of your questions may be answered, or at least lead you to the right path. As we see in the first episode, being capable to bend and being good at it are very different. Since this first book is "Water" and the protagonists want to learn WaterBending, it's safe to assume the same also applies to book 2 "Earth" and book 3 "Fire". By the way, the series run from 2005 till 2008. Thanks for starting this! I'm sure you will like it! Looking forward to your reactions and thoughts on it!
Ok you guys keep on killing it, this show is still amazing to this day. The soundtrack the story the action and comedy. Enjoy lord knows I’m going to enjoy along with you…that being said you might wanna do a couple episodes at a time for this one xD
What the hell im so excited for this!!!!!!!! One Piece and Avatar are my two favorite series of all time and I think anyone who loves One Piece would love Avatar as well
About the penguins thing: Ducks are really fucked up too. A group of male ducks competing over a female duck during mating season get so overly zealous to mate that they sometimes accidentally kill the female duck. They’ll also attempt to mate with dead ducks including the corpses of other males.
Aang 12/112 Katara 14 Sokka 15 Zuko 16 Uncle Iroh 57-63 age never given Each Bending has bases in a real martial art. Tai chi for waterbending Hung Gar for earthbending Northern Shaolin for firebending Baguazhang for airbending Avatar TLA soundtrack is original and it's a amazing.
Perfect show to react to if you haven’t seen it you’re going to love it, if you have you probably love it so much you still want to watch it with the boys
I found out about this show around mid second season! Before the book two finale I was part of a fan group and working on transcribing the show as it was airing so we could have Spanish subtitules for every releasing episode before anyone else! The last Airbender it’s the reason I went from knowing a few English words, to completely speak English fluently by the end of the third book!
I love how you love even this episode! Since ATLA starts off super slow, most are "okay... yeah I guess I get why people like it" until they get to the really awesome part... I'm excited to see how you will react when it really gets great!
also, even if you don't read this: please release two episodes a week... I love to watch ppl react to avatar... But I wount wait another 10 months for you to release all of your episodes... I'm sorry either do more than one episode per video or twice a week... I know I cna't force you :D I'm just saying... I won't be able to retain your channel in memory for that long.
So to go onto the discussion, there's multiple conclusions you can take away from what Aang did to save himself. He might have water bended, but benders have complete control over the elements that they manipulate, including temperature. Its actually possible that what happened was that he made the air cold enough to instantly freeze the water while also giving him room to breathe.
Subscribed for this show! Can’t wait for this journey, I hope you’ll be pumping them out fast! This show is mind blowing good, and just keeps getting better and better!
No shot I found this the DAY it was uploaded I CANNOT wait to see your journey through ATLA. What I wouldn’t give to see this for the first time again ;-;
I love watching reactions to the show - and really eager to see how your opinion(s) change over the three seasons. Though at 20 mins for a video, 61 total episodes... I'm going to have to wait and come back when you've all gotten *much* further into it, so I can binge the lot. I just can't bring myself to follow someone over a year for this. My regards, and look forward to seeing your finished series reactions!

By the way, the series run from 2005 till 2008.
Thanks for starting this! I'm sure you will like it! Looking forward to your reactions and thoughts on it!
5:14 No, he's a reincarnation of many people from each nation

Ok you guys keep on killing it, this show is still amazing to this day. The soundtrack the story the action and comedy. Enjoy lord knows I’m going to enjoy along with you…that being said you might wanna do a couple episodes at a time for this one xD
Already seeing some spoilers in the comments, this isnt a show you guys want spoiled so be careful.
What the hell im so excited for this!!!!!!!! One Piece and Avatar are my two favorite series of all time and I think anyone who loves One Piece would love Avatar as well
Seems reasonable, because same
About the penguins thing: Ducks are really fucked up too. A group of male ducks competing over a female duck during mating season get so overly zealous to mate that they sometimes accidentally kill the female duck. They’ll also attempt to mate with dead ducks including the corpses of other males.
And here
We

Avatar TLA soundtrack is original and it's a amazing.
I can't believe there are still people who haven't seen TLA. You're in for a real treat!
Perfect show to react to if you haven’t seen it you’re going to love it, if you have you probably love it so much you still want to watch it with the boys
NGL watching people react to ATLA for the first time is one of my favourite reactions
THIS IS GONNA BE AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGG
I found out about this show around mid second season! Before the book two finale I was part of a fan group and working on transcribing the show as it was airing so we could have Spanish subtitules for every releasing episode before anyone else! The last Airbender it’s the reason I went from knowing a few English words, to completely speak English fluently by the end of the third book!
Literally so happy that you guys are starting avatar the last airbender! It is truly an amazing series!!
all the question you guys mention will be answer just go along for a ride
im genuinely so hyped to see you guys' reaction to this series, its one the best animated shows ever
I love how you love even this episode!
Since ATLA starts off super slow, most are "okay... yeah I guess I get why people like it" until they get to the really awesome part...
I'm excited to see how you will react when it really gets great!
also, even if you don't read this:
please release two episodes a week...
I love to watch ppl react to avatar... But I wount wait another 10 months for you to release all of your episodes...
I'm sorry either do more than one episode per video or twice a week...
I know I cna't force you :D I'm just saying... I won't be able to retain your channel in memory for that long.
I hope they’re prepared to fall in love with iroh
Your reactions to this and Ben 10 are giving me life 😌
So to go onto the discussion, there's multiple conclusions you can take away from what Aang did to save himself. He might have water bended, but benders have complete control over the elements that they manipulate, including temperature. Its actually possible that what happened was that he made the air cold enough to instantly freeze the water while also giving him room to breathe.
Of course he doesn't care he has depression and MASSIVE self-worth issues, and daddy issues, and abandonment issues, trauma, PTSD, etc
One of the best cartoons in life and you might want to watch over analyzing Avatar
Subscribed for this show! Can’t wait for this journey, I hope you’ll be pumping them out fast! This show is mind blowing good, and just keeps getting better and better!
NO WAY!!! I literally gasped!!!
No shot I found this the DAY it was uploaded I CANNOT wait to see your journey through ATLA. What I wouldn’t give to see this for the first time again ;-;
I don’t know if it’s mentioned in all the comments or not, the guy who voices Zuko is the same guy who played Rufio in Hook
To think that there are humans that exist while not being obsessed with this franchise…I’m out of my comfort zone
"You just released like a demi-god or somethin"
*"No, no. He's got a point"*
THIS IS LITERALLY THE BEST ANIMATED SHOW OF ALL TIME IMO. IM SO HAPPY YOU GUYS ARE REACTING TO IT AND I CANT WAIT TO SEE MORE 😄
I'm 32 and I rewatch this series at least twice a year. The arrows are tattoos, they signify his status as a master airbender.
AND THE GOD TIER SHOWS JUST KEEP COMING you guys are gonna have fun with this one
You're going to love this show!!
side note: Katara is voice by Mae Whitman who voices Amity in TOH and that information is very personally important to me
I love watching reactions to the show - and really eager to see how your opinion(s) change over the three seasons. Though at 20 mins for a video, 61 total episodes... I'm going to have to wait and come back when you've all gotten *much* further into it, so I can binge the lot. I just can't bring myself to follow someone over a year for this. My regards, and look forward to seeing your finished series reactions!

The first words of avatar are "its" and the last words are "perfect"
So the first words of this series are "earth" and the last words are "the boulder"
Avatar TLA is one of the best animated shows ever!! It has great character development and the story is really amazing.
I've never subscribed because I know ever watched your Owl House videos, but now you're watching avatar? That's worth a sub and the bell
Fun fact: the creators had to change the name from just “Avatar” to “Avatar: the Last Airbender” after a certain James Cameron blue people film was under development
Then they were in for quite a surprise when they learned the name of the second blue people film while they were creating the sequel series for the last airbender
I'm genuinely surprised yall haven't seen Avatar but heck yeah
