  • MONITORING EMERGENCY ACCOUNT USAGE IN AZURE AD - Learn how to detect when emergency “break-glass” accounts are used in Azure Active Directory.
Do you have an emergency Azure Admin account setup? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you had a way for Azure to notify you when that account has been used? Good news! In this episode of #KnowOps, Dana shares with us how to harness the power of Azure Log Analytics, Monitoring and Event Hubs to do just that.

Thanks, Dana. The video will help me greatly with the setup. As you said in the video, I'm facing the problem that I have Office 365 with Premium AD P2 but no active Azure Subscription. I need to create one for a storage account. I think with my little tenant the costs for this will be limited. As far as I know you can work with a test subscription which comes with 200 dollars. I will test it and report back. I will post the video on my Twitter account. Many thanks :)

can we create PIM ( roles , JIT , approvals , approvers ) through Terraform or Powershell ? is this is a good practice to automate PIM through terraform or powershell ?

Do you have a rough estimate of what this would cost to send the sign in logs to Log Analytics and setup an alert for emergency account usage?

You would need to have a premium SKU for AAD and then some storage. I don't know the exact cost, but it is very inexpensive considering the value it delivers. Check the Azure Pricing Calculator.

It seems that Diagnostics Settings is not available despite me having either an AAD Premium P1 or P2 subscription.. It seems that I had to have a "Pay-As-You-Go" Subscription as well. Anyone else encountering this?

A bit old, but I thought I'd share. An Azure AD Subscription (Pay-as-you-go or other) IS needed for this. Spoke to MS Azure Support to ensure this is true. This is a usually tutorial, but missing some steps.

I'm 32 and trying to become a cloud engineer in 6-8 months. Im planning to get certified in Aws, Azure, Linux xk0-004, Ansible, Puppet, jenkins, Docker, python(just learn not got certified) and kubernetes. 2 hours each for each technology everyday. 16hr study days, it's not as bad as I thought, I have no kids or girlfriend. Am I being unrealistic right now or realistic? And also will be doing projects from kodekloud and darey.io. Also if all this falls through, someone with 0 IT work experience will I atleast start of six figures or low 70k?

Been extremely busy. With this pandemic I took some time to volunteer to help others who were rolling out infrastructure in their Azure environments to support more remote workers. As things are starting to simmer down, I have some videos slated to be recorded next month.
