In order to be a great manager, not only do you need to be a great motivator of people, you also need to be very good at what you do or you will not command any respect since people will know you don’t know anything lol. Oftentimes, the competent ones do end up being the ISTJ and thus, their next level of natural progression in the workplace is promotion to being a manager. I would rather say instead of staying out of management, ISTJs need to learn to be more patient and understanding of people, and learn to make the team work more cohesively. Once again, totally depends on the field…for example, I wouldn’t see many ISTJs being in let’s say interpretive dance but can see many of them in accounting or law. Those fields require extensive detail orientation, even as a manager and you really can’t get by as a manager surviving on people skills alone.

My dad is an ISTJ and tbh he is actually one of the funniest, most caring ppl I know. Just because ISTJs focus on rather down to earth, practical, and logical things doesn’t mean that they are unemotional. To me ISTJs can actually be very wise and deep, and they have a superior skill in breaking down complex topics, often summing them up in one sentence. To me it seems that ISTJs actually care a lot, it’s just the way they communicate that is by making sure everything goes smoothly. Making sure that everything is organized and well thought out means that you care about a good outcome and therefore want to make people feel satisfied/happy in a way. They are always eager to find a solution or to help better a situation, pointing out a possible flaw in a plan, and suggesting alternatives, is the most efficient way to improve it. I never once felt like my ideas weren’t taken seriously or made fun of, bc ISTJ‘s usually always offer advice on what to do instead of the initial blue print, instead of just criticizing your idea and leaving it at that. I find them to have great morals too, most of the time they just act on them without sticking it into everyone’s faces. No one can truly match them when it comes to being responsible and dependable, I really really admire ISTJs. ⭐️ -ENFP

I am so tired of INFPs wanting to be another type,
Why can't you see your qualities?
      ISTJs also have drawbacks
They can be boring, less creative and can follow the mainstream or society blindly in some cases
"Ok I may stereotyped it a bit, but I am typing in a hurry, lol"
The point is "and I know you may not be writing this comment 100% seriously, but.." you have to look for the potentials you have and achieve them rather than wishing things that won't happen, while also working on your negatives.

In any case, ISTJs definitely have amazing qualities and that is a fact regardless of what Mary or Johnny from the block say.

My wife is an ISTJ and I am an INTJ. It's rather surreal how similar we are in both general demeanor and drive. However despite this, we've had to invest a lot of patience and effort into our dynamics as a partnership. While we both look ahead, I construct as many feasible paths to achieving my ambitions as possible, whereas as you mentioned, her low Ne gives her a much more cynical view of the majority of them. Understandably despite being very similar types, this dichotomy made future roadmapping for us very difficult early on. While admittedly very frustrating for me as it can sometimes kill my dreams in the process (especially early on haha), I've grown to appreciate her attention to those details when we collaborate. It makes it a lot easier for me to lock into one particular path that is substantially more precise in it's accounting for finer details than I would predominantly produce on my own. And she's gradually grown to appreciate my perspective when multiple larger variables need to be taken into account. Above all else, she's the most dependable person I've ever met, and she keeps me on my toes.

She'll pull out a full shelf of things in the fridge and clean that level thoroughly.
As an INFJ, I love my jokes -- to include paradox, innuendo, pun, dichotomy, and anecdotes, etc.
But for my ISTJ sister-in-law … who may not pick up the transition to humor, I have to announce, "Now, listen to this play on words," or "listen to this story…." Then she gets it right off.
Or if I've made a seamless transition to humor and she doesn't pick it up, I then explain that what I said, was a joke (Sometimes I explain the joke).
Almost always this is followed by a sudden loud guffaw from my sister-in-law(!).
Contrary to what is thought about ISTJs being stodgy, they ARE actually future oriented(!).
The INFJ would leap forward, and is willing to boldly make changes overnight. In contrast the ISTJ, will gladly place one foot into the future as long as the other foot is solidly planted in the past.
They'll be satisfied doing so because they know "what has worked in the past(!)."

After waiting for the perfect time to watch this video, I met an ISTJ once, and this is true I am a fan of them, they like you to notice and take in count the details that matter for them, as well if you are not histrionic they will appreciate it too. A combination of respect their schedule, make them feel worth and being considerate without overwhelming or doing too much.

I had taken up a course and had a relatively easy progression but there was a girl who wasn't very educationally inclined and had been struggling and constantly repeating the course. Some classmates criticised her and insulted her calling her stupid but I defended her because she had something I seriously lack which is the never give up attitude. I admired her for that.
Anyway after a few years I dropped out of class to get a higher paying job that didn't allow the time to continue my studies. A couple years later I met the girl and learnt she had completed her Associate's Degree.
No one in the initial class including myself achieved that. I was soooo blown away and excited for her.
Now one of my sayings is

Anticipating all of the things that could go wrong was precisely what made me excel at my job. I was all about keeping things moving while having a system in place that would eliminate, mor at least minimize, the chance of something that was contrary to policy flying under the radar. While it’s a real bummer to imagine things going wrong, say, on a vacation, that kind of awareness allows one to build in some preemptive actions to avert disaster. If you think of some of the things n your life that HAVE gone wrong, I’d bet that in at least some of those situations, the ability to visualize different scenarios unfolding might have guided your actions in a way that would have prevented the bad thing from happening. So it’s not all negative.

As a little kid I was so weird..aggressive and didn't fit in with people. I cried or got angry a lot. In primary school I could socialize a bit, unfortunately I was still active. Today I'm out of high school, I've become: calmer, quiet (at times), forceful and a bit of a moral/ethical coach. I learn from facts and experience (although sometimes I have, those ideas). I'm more philosophical, and I like to learn psychology. I have trouble distinguishing T vs F, S vs N. I'm sure I'm I (although I like to see people), J (I try to keep order in my sand, and if I stand up for things that the other can't, doesn't know...). Trying to be reasonable and keep my head is really good for me. Stubbornness and logic are valuable to me. But my reactions are more emotional (anger, harshness,...), I don't cry in front of people anymore, I keep my emotions to myself. I can perfectly understand even more difficult ideas, or let's say imaginations. Intuition and Sensory perception are still fighting in me. And I would say I am IxTJ.

As an ISTP who's friends with an ISTJ, this is so on point. Bro drinks well over enough water, he cooks for himself, (doesn't actually sleep that much but that's a whole different can of worms), and said "if there's a motive to change then change will happen. Not changing is a cause of not wanting to." In more or less the same words. I appreciate the bluntness and scrutiny honestly, it's a great and refreshing change from everyone else who just isn't capable of speaking what they're thinking without layers and layers of sugar coating.

  • @Grayewick

    "It's not pessimism, it's realism."
Not when you're the one giving an incredibly stubborn ISTJ the reality check. I'm an INTP and this is our (my ISTJ GF's) point of contention. Trying to convince her new and/or contrasting ideas feels like an act of futility. She's just so stubborn, it doesn't make any sense. Like I get that she's got her upbringing and I've got mine, but even on objective discussions where it's not a matter of opinion, she'll still sit there all proud about only what she knows and dismissing everything else. Every time I try to address a problem with her feels like gaslighting, so I often just end up just going "whatever, do your own thing" to the point where whenever she shares something, it became a habit of mine to default into asking her "do you still want my opinion?" first before anything. It's so constricting. I'm an INTP and often it seems to me that she's more idealistic than me.

ISTJ here as well. Our negatives can be that we can be too lost in the details and that can lead us to being short sighted. It triggers our tertiary Fi to be upset when things are inefficient or didn’t go as planned, but we totally missed that even though we went off the beaten path, we ended up having a lot of fun and made a lot of precious memories doing so…and that’s what really matters in life. Another weakness is we aren’t very good at just listening and letting someone just rant when they present us with a problem. We have an instinct to problem solve because we just want to make our loved ones problems go away and then they wouldn’t be upset. However, we don’t always realize that sometimes the person already knows what they need to do, but all they really wanted from us was a listening ear and some comfort. I had to look up TH-cam videos and practice this Fe way of listening to bring more comfort to my loved ones who just needed some comfort.

It depends if the charm is genuine or self-serving. I've read enough true crime that I am aware that charm can be deceiving.

I'm an INTP with what I believe to be an ISTJ mom. We are completely out of sync.

Likewise I am INTP and I'm fairly certain my mom is ISTJ. She's lovely and we get along fine...but, yeah, our worlds are not that alike.
