    I really love how you showed every tiny, "unspectacular" bit of your ordinary day, unlike those fancily crafted tourism-ads-like videos. It's so raw and candid. As someone who grew up in Japan and now lives in Texas (yup, the other way around from you :D), I enjoy finding about Japan through your perspective. Thank you for your lovely videos and blog posts!

      Moo Moore Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I was trying to figure out what "day in my life" videos actually were and came across quite a few that were very scripted. It seemed kind of... off?
      Ps - how is living in Texas? :D

      Texan in Tokyo Yeah I get kind of skeptical when things look all fancy and exciting :( Texas is as cool as Japan but in a totally different way. There was one time when I was back in Japan shopping at a local supermarket. I casually asked the cashier lady how she is doing, and she froze and looked at me like "did you just talk to me?" Then I realized this is not Texas lol.

    It so refreshing seeing a genuine video about someone life. Typically we see TH-cam videos about the "average" life of people and apparently everyone wakes up with perfect hair and a creepily happy attitude. At 6:30am I'm a thriller video zombie

    Ryosuke is one super early riser, he reads and does stuff at 5am? I can't even barely open my eyes at that time, much yet even to read something. That lunch was super simple yet its super delicious! "Why is there no vegetables today, do they hate Wednesday or something?" - breathless Grace. HAHA that was funny.

    I can't believe it has been 7 years already. I come back to this series from time to time, since even after such a long time it hasn't failed to make me smile. I have so many memories from that time period! Especially that we are in similar age. So much has changed since then.
    I truly hope that you are living your best life, having a wonderful happy family together. I'm sure you are wonderful parents in your new stage of life, and I wish you nothing else, but the best. Even though you probably will never read that!

    Thats a really good technique you have taught me. When lacking motivation, stop what you're doing and instead do something you hate, such as running, or any other boring activity like chores, and then you will feel motivated to keep working on what you were doing in the first place, because you dont feel like doing that other thing you hate. I will apply that to my life when Im lacking motivation, thanks!

    Loved the idea of running in order to get motivation to write again.

    I find it so weird that Americans keep their shoes on indoors, in Canada we also take our shoes off inside and usually walk around bare footed or in socks

    • @one30am
      @one30am 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's generalizing it a bit. It honestly seems to depend on the region and the family. In my experience, warmer areas tend to keep their shoes on indoors (or at home, walk to the bedroom and take them off and store them in the closet) and where it's colder (and far more snowy in the winter, not that the south doesn't get cold/snow) it seems like it's more common to take them off right inside the door (usually on an entry rug or tiled/wood floored area depending on the house) and walk around in socks or bare feet.
      (I'm from the south (and mostly visited family in the south as a kid) where the former is more common and now live in the north where the latter is standard and having your shoes on indoors is pretty rare.)

    • @one30am
      @one30am 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just realised I use parenthesis a lot.. lol

    • @ericajohnson5604
      @ericajohnson5604 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh that makes sense, though I still feel as if you would still track dirt into the house. I guess it just feels so weird because it is incredibly rude to keep shoes on in someone's home in Canada (unless you have express permission to keep them on) , and when I visited friends in the states I got weird looks taking them off

    • @one30am
      @one30am 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Erica Johnson I understand. The areas that keep them on, it's seen as rude to take them off (like you're 'making yourself at home' without permission) so for a while I felt awkward taking them off when visiting people I barely knew. Customs are just different everywhere.
      I was thinking earlier and realised that with pets, which I realise aren't as big in some places but are here, dirt's going to get tracked in anyway when you let them outside and then back in. I can't see any way around that short of bathing them each time (which is out of the question, especially in winter), or at least washing their paws. Having thought about that, I'll be vacuuming even more often now. lol

    • @Auxora
      @Auxora 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, I'm from Texas, and no one who lives in my house is allowed to walk around with shoes inside. They stay by the front door. I don't walk around in slippers but I keep my socks on. I think it depends on the person and family in regards to America. I just can't stand to clean dirty floors every time someone walks all over with shoes.

    • @CooperCieslicki
      @CooperCieslicki 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am too. Being American, I can just see people stealing that within 5 seconds. The rail system in the city I live in has an honor system ( no gates, random ticket checks and you get fined or arrested for a misdemeanor if they find you without) and half of riders don't pay. It just amazes me seeing this. You go, Japan!

    • @LittleGameDev
      @LittleGameDev 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Texan in Tokyo Yeah I am amazed as well. I live in Canada and if I left stuff like that out it would most likely get stolen. I am super surprised at how cheap your lunch was. In Canada if I where to buy that stuff it would most likely come up to 30 of 40 dollars due to how expensive Salmon is up here. Maybe higher or lower never bought salmon before. But Food is really expensive up here especially Healthy food.

      Texan in Tokyo Those working hours are scary... getting up at 5:30 and going to bed at roughly 23:20 would kill me. But he can't even get to bed earlier because he's home at like 22:00 :/ Do Japanese people at least have a weekend in traditional companies? Or at least 2 days off during the week even if it's not Saturday and Sunday? I think I've read somewhere that Japanese people generally don't believe if you tell them that every Sunday is by law a day off for everybody but essential services or industries that benefit a lot from that (restaurants, public transport, hospitals and so on). I don't even want to ask about paid holiday (or vacation... do Americans use vacation for just a week or so off from work even if you don't travel?)... We get 6 weeks here (4 by law but unions would rip their industries a new butt hole if anybody tried to offer less than 6).
      Americans already work an awful, awful lot for my taste but I don't think I could work in Japan with those hours. Maybe as a free lancer (because at least you're your own boss then).

    I love your approach to lunch, rice, fresh salmon and soy sauce, so simple and super delicous! I also like that you try to buy local, one of the most important things when it comes to buy food IMHO. And I'm glad there are more "no coffee = bad mood coffee = everything is fine" - people haha

      Flown87 I like to buy local... it just kind of feels easier. And I prefer simple food (time-wise it's a LOT easier to make, too!)

    Nice video I liked the motivation trick with the running :p
    About the editing program most people that have windows use adobe premiere pro but it requires a powerful pc and is pretty complicated. They offer a free trail though so you can check it out.

      Alex Di Hmmm. I will put that on my list! Thanks!

      Texan in Tokyo Premiere and Sony Vegas are pretty much the only professional applications you can use for video editing on Windows. Everything else is... less professional. Not shit but just not the real deal. Adobe also offers a subscription service where you pay a relatively small fee per month and then you can use their software. That might be cheaper than buying Premier especially since you can cancel the service if you decide that the workflow required for Premier is not working for you.
      In a Mac you'd have Final Cut as well and iMovies which is a more fancy Windows Movie Maker. Much like iTunes compared to Windows Media Player.

    The more of your videos I see and your articles I read, the more I love you guys :)
    I've also noticed that your videos pretty much always offer some kind of new insight or valuable perspective on things, rather than a lot of other Japan-related videos that I feel tend to get a little carried away with the over-dramatised "look how weird and different Japan is!" kind of line.
    I'm really interested in hearing a little more one day about your time at boarding school in Japan (how it came about and if there were many other international students there too, or if it was a total super-intense Japanese immersion environment that you threw yourself into, if that makes sense), and more about what it was like in the other countries you've lived/grown up in. It's really interesting to me. I can't wait until I can live overseas myself (starting with a full-year exchange to Japan later this year:D ). :)
    I'm sorry for the long comment. Thanks again for the content you post^^
