- As Pope Francis prepares for his upcoming trip to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, and Singapore, EWTN News In Depth sent reporter Colm Flynn to all four countries to get a sense of the issues facing the Catholic Church in each region, and what the Pope will see and experience when he arrives.

I am an Indonesian Catholic priest working in New Zealand. Yes, poverty with all its complexity, is still a big problem for Indonesia, but there is always hope to work together. I think Indonesia is on the track on how to mitigate, assess and overcome poverty issue. I am a Malaysian & a proud Catholic. I registered my family for the papal mass in Singapore but unfortunately we were not balloted. Indonesia is so magnanimous to welcome the pope visit eventhough they are a muslim country. I really hope Malaysia could follow suit. A shout out to Indonesia.A huge respect to the Govt for its tolerance towards the various religions although it's a predominantly Muslim nation. Paus Franciscus has a reason for being there. Indonesians be blessed. The main mosque is linked to the Cathedral across the road via a subway in Jakarta. Symbolic of being harmonious. One thing that foreign media do not know about Indonesia is that in Indonesia it is difficult to build churches because of opposition from the majority population, especially those on the islands of Java and Sumatra.

Great reporting. Brought back my memory of childhood growing up in poverty in Vietnam before coming to America at 14. I have traveled the world extensively, having been in the Navy for 30 years. Since my profound conversion 17 years ago on a pilgrimage, I would say that having Christ in me is the most fulfilling of all, having inner peace regardless of the financial situation, war, or pandemic in society. What good is it to gain the whole world but lose eternal life? I would rather be poor in all things of this world but rich in Christ. Viva Cristo Rey!
