This new TC mechanism in F1 24 has also been observed by others as well. Personally as a casual player who cannot turn off TC, I liked this change (tradeoff is more understeer under TC leading to more tire wear), but I 100% agree that in competitive multiplayer environment it is logical to ban it. No assists is the only way to ensure a level playing field IMHO.

I'm torn. I don't have the space nor funds for a wheel setup, and on controller I have nerve damage making no assists very difficult to do. However I love F1, and love playing the games, moreso at a casual level, career modes are my fun with it with the occasional casual lobby. I do feel no assist players should be rewarded by being some level quicker, because of their mastery and control. But I also don't want to be punished for my physical limitations, I like feeling that I've got at least some pace despite them. Banning them from even casuals, would effectively remove me from a genre of games I really enjoy on a daily basis. In competitive environments, I do feel no assists should be enforced, and to be completely honest, I thought that was the case. Are they not? EDIT: I did not consider Ranked, I continuously forget that exists. Should probably be no assists in there, or a seperate category for assisted ranked.
I agree with you 100% I turned off all assist that you spoke of and it was absolutely rubbish to drive and I was cussing walking out of the room😂 but got the hang of it and brought my time down at azerbaijan 2018 +3.19 from my full assit time. I'm not going to win any of the races yet but just not having any assists makes the game much better. Thank you
I've turned off everything...except for the line. I can't seem to bring myself to it. 😅 I'd just out break myself. Almost never late, but always early. I'd scrub off too much, then over compensate with too much throttle to gain back what I've lost, spin out, or baby it, and lose more time. I can definitely do NO raceline, but I'm much slower
The best use of assists (after accessibility) is to bring drivers of different skill levels to a similar pace so they can race together. This is absolutely vital to balancing speed in coop career to race a common ai difficulty. I can see there being a need for a different balance or solution for competitive multiplayer, but I would not want to give up the ability of assists to get friends to similar lap times for casual play.
Being quick with full assists will cause you to not develop the ability to apply throttle in a controlled manner, same with trail braking. I think it needs to punish you more to incentivize you to learn how to drive better

I am driving now since F1 17 and this year it’s very tricky to drive a race without TCS , the gap between flying from the track and be fast without flying is very very small . Full Tcs is quick this year but idk ….at the start of f1 24 driving without tcs was easier as 23 but with the updates they ruined the game so for me it’s different , if a track have not that much low speed corners i take no tcs but if it’s like Monaco i go full tcs above all in a leaque race
I don't race pro. So i usually alter between semi to full assists. And for people who don't use it, use it different since the physics and controls are different. EX: ABS. People who use ABS brake while turning. People who don't use ABS brake on the straight.
F1 24 is only my 3rd F1 game and only my second using a wheel so I’d consider myself a relatively new player. I play with no assist other than the breaking line and auto DRS due to Xbox not letting me 80% of the mappable buttons on my wheel. I recently started playing ranked for the first time and while I’m quick I tend to over push sometimes and make the occasional mistake. It’s frustrating racing against people who run assist because they can push to the limits without have to manage traction or braking and not be punished. I’d much rather remove my braking line and auto DRS and have fair competition than race against someone running full assist. Also you the people who tend to run assist are the most likely to take you out first corner from my experience. Doesn’t make any sense that assist are allowed in ranked.
For casual players like me having TC and other assists that let´s you compete normally with the AI is what makes the game fun. Meaning i can get a decent exit out of the corners compared to the AI so i can actually have some fun driving in this game. Previous years i would lose 2 to 4 tenths on some of the corner exits and i coudn´t drive on the curbs because TC would step in. So i had to lower the AI and in doing so they lost al capability to drive in the corners. That was boring as hell to drive against. Not everyone wants to be an Esports gamer or has the time to learn how to drive without the assists. Most people have a life beside gaming. Just ban the assists from competitive play or ranked online in general but leave it so i and other casual gamers can have some fun racing with the AI in career mode.
It's a complex issue. You're an extremely good professional driver, so you're gonna be fast with or without assists. I play on controller and use TC, and I agree that no assists should be much faster because it's more challenging so there should be a reward for that effort. I could be wrong, but I've noticed that in actual races, having no assists seems to still give you a decent speed advantage compared to time trials. There's definitely a feeling of there being a ceiling of how fast you can go with assists compared to the no assists drivers. You can tell by seeing the way people drive or if their tyres ever smoke/lock up. The time trial boards top 500 or so are still overwhelmingly no assists, and for the ones that do have assists, it's there on the screen for all to see and clearly less of an achievement. I'd love to drive without TC, but I can only do it on a sim wheel, which I can't afford. I've tried and tried to master it on pad, but there's just not enough wiggle room on an R2 button to do it. I know some people manage to master it, but it's really, really hard. So, a ban would be silly on many levels. But you're right. The speed drop from driving with assists should definitely be more pronounced. And it should be easier to build and label lobbies as strictly no assists or assists allowed, and it should of course be banned in esports. What I find far crazier is that they actually allowed TC in real F1 in the early 90s and early to mid 2000s. I think it was 2008 or so when they re-banned it, and everyone was sliding all over the place.
TC: Full traction control = TC for all 8 gears. Medium TC = Traction control for the first three gears. Gear no4 onwards no TC. So exiting out of slow corners, you can stand on the throttle till you upshift to gear 4. After that it is between you and the digital gods. On medium to fast corners... is where the fun starts. No TC = No TC at all.
I actually did the same test at spain before Patch 1.7 reset TT times. I tried to max out full tc and I got P7 on Playstation which is just ridiculous. I feel like it could make a big advantage in races and especially in rainy conditions because full tc avoids wheelspin so rear tyres will not degrade that much so you can go longer and faster. These are basics which codemasters need to correct immediatly.
You can’t say your fast until you turn off all the assists in my opinion, you should be rewarded for driving with it all turned off and using the racing line is like bowling with the sides up! This is why I only race in a non assisted league because it is a fair and level playing field.
This game need good ranked system like ACC or iracing where players will play with others in their rank and proper ban and penalty system after that there would be no need for assists ban because everyone would be in their own league.
As a hobby driver and enjoying driving without assist (loosing always my online races ) change and make driving without assist more rewarding. As a share holder of EA NO even next version of F1 make with auto navigation. Biggest part of drivers just drive for fun and that are our money makers making it more difficult they will not buy our next version.
No they do not need to change, What needs to change is the systems. Have a ranked queue and an E-sport queue. E-sport que is no assists normal ranked is w/e you like using. That solved all the problems surrounding the topic IMO.
Assists shouldnt be outright banned but in higher level lobbies and esports of course they should be off buuuuut also the camera angel that everyone and their grandma uses in higher level lobbies and esports is also something that 100% should be banned and forced into cockpit view if you disagree than you cannot complain about assists 🤷🏻♂️ its a huge reason that watching f1 competitive gameplay is horrendous
What i don't quite understand is why, if all these top Esports drivers are phenomenal, aren't they competing together on a proper sim platform? Like iRacing, AC or Automobilista2 et al. Why can't they grow some balls and race together with full damage and no ghosting?
This is my first ever F! game. I first srtaed in career mode and all asissts were on, not really knowing how much it provided. It was not very fun as it was so easy and you never had to even take finger off throttle due to breaking assit and even turn assist was so strong you could just hold throttle and car will automatically go to racing line. I have since turned that off, and the game became way more fun and challenging. I have to look now if I have traction and ABS on. I do like having racing line on becasue I find it hard to locate turns early enough. I ride motorcycles in real life and obviously no such thing as a racing line but in real life I can actually see my turning location and know when to trail break but in video games it is so much harder to locate. One issue that i am trying to sort out is track limits. I really do not understand it at all. At first I always avoided the curbs because i thought that was a penalty then watching vidoes on tips for faster driving i see the strategy on using it but you will end up getting so many inconsistent track limit warning. Like in this video and your last you were clearly over the curb numerous times and no penalty at all. And then i notice if i left off throttle if I go full wide over a curb no penalty but if i keep throttle it will be. This has been so frusturating in learning how to fully use the curbs for better turns at speed
While I can appreciate the thought process wit penalizing players who use assists, it’s the single most unrealistic aspect of the game, in real life, if there were 19 F1 cars set as usual, and one driver who had ABS and traction control, they would obliterate the entire field
Said it so many times over the years even when I used assist in 2017 and half of 2018 assist should be more punishing 1 sec to 1.5 for full tc 1sec to 0.7 for medium and abs at least 0.5 … it’s not fun league racing either atm against assist user as you get punished for having more skill
I am not so deep in the F1 game, but I am actually quite surprised that the ABS and TC makes or should make you slower in the game?! A pro player with assists turned on should be actually a lot faster, aren't they? A properly setup ABS and TC for a racing car prevents wheel spin, which allows you to always put the maximum possible power to the ground and therefore makes the car as fast as it can be for the given conditions ... it does not block the rotation of the car or limit the power that the engine delivers. For me the implementation of the game is very artificial ... done like this just to make using assists in competitive races nonsensical.
@JDisLimitless not really. GT cars have both TC and ABS. If cars are slower with driving assists, those cars wouldn't be using it, same when F1 had TC for 2001-2007 seasons.

Bro, not everybody has perfect inputs on their pedals. Most cheaper pedals are so bad, it’s almost impossible to trailbreak of accelerate properly. I have fanatec v1 pedals without a loadcell and my wheelstand slides forward when I break. In no way am I gonna get a 1.26 or even near that number. I’m at least 3 to 4 seconds slower. These tools cost a lot of money.
Nahhh this should be in all the F1 games, this is good for online play and playing local for less skilled to be competitive, ranked and leagure should have their own rules.
Imo theres no point in playing the game with assist. When i first started playing F1 i thought every league would be no assist so i never used them and learned the game cause i thought i needed to to get in a league but its completely opposite which surprised me. No assist leagues are very hard to find. Some people just refuse to even try no assist

Risk to reward balance is way off and concerning. I believe you’re going to see even more people quitting the f1 franchise game altogether. So many have already stated their disappointment with the game and league racing is suffering from it. Sure the racing might be closer but this model isn’t correct in my view of it. Camera view is also a assist.
Cockpit view is the hardest camera to use.

Assists and No assists should not give toe to toe results, they made the game casual because thats what EA does in every franchise

I turn em off right from the start. Half the joy, to me, is controlling the Beast. I can feel the car better under me, more connected.

Who cares? You can see who is using assists on the leaderboards and you can restrict what assists are allowed in custom and league races.. its a video game it seems kind of shallow to say they should be banned lol.
