REUPLOADED VID: Correction made to the clarification of open-world genre and what part of it GTA 3 revolutionized Do you think GTA 6 will be amazing, are you cautiously optimistic or downright don’t want anything to do with it?
3's gone through multiple phases of being loved and hated. A lot of the 1 and 2 fans didn't like the direction it was taking the series(There was an incredibly nasty schism on a forum called Gouranga in 2003 which involved a lot of the newer fans essentially ousting the old fans from their own site which bred a lot of bad blood and ultimately killed the forum), then it was the foundation for the series and highly praised from San Andreas until around the time of 5. Then a lot of newer fans showed up again, but this time they were against 3 and to an extent VC and they fell back hard again, there was a period of 3 or 4 years where it was just "that one awkward middle era transition game", you saw a lot of 5 and San Andreas praise, 4 also ended up being caught in the back half of this for not having good enough gameplay and being too dark. Then in the late 2010s you had like 4 massive essays about how important the game was and it's freedoms compared to 5 that massively changed the dialogue practically overnight and 3 was suddenly the darling of the series for the first time in 15 years. Then the Definitive Edition hit and it got bucked by a lot of rocky reviews by newer players who didn't like the games base mechanics(as apposed to San Andreas which just got the old guard fans more angry and inflamed at Rockstar and Vice City which got out mostly unscatched) and some modding issues fueled by Rockstar caused issues between them and the Vice City community, then they sort of fought over credit(Is it more important to have done it first or done it well first?) and there were some allegations of them feeding info to bloggers and crap. 3 did this, no VC did it well, no this no that while the San Andreas people are just busy fighting Rockstar and causing trouble with the 5 era fans(though on the plus side 4 got it's reputation back). And then as if it wasn't divided enough modern Windows ports of GTA 1 and London came out through the fandom and caused a resurgence since people could actually play them with current hardware for the first time since 2004. This brought a bunch of people back who haven't been with the series since the early 2000s, then someone got doxxed, the 3 guys got blamed because of the VC stuff, and now the Hardcore III fans are duking it out with bitter 1 and 2 fans angry about being ousted from the fandom 20 years ago and who are convinced the III fans are egotistical credit stealers trying to erase their role in the series and make people forget them again, while the Vice City fans are pressing from the other side about how complete and bugfree the game is and 'The Doom of 3D GTA while III is the Wolfenstein' essay and all that, III fans have gotten a reputation the last 2 years or so for being egotistical glory hogs, Vice City fans got the biggest boost from the Definitive Edition and are on the high right now, and the San Andreas fandom essentially declared war on Rockstar and are the main guys you see complaining about modding. Trying to say anything about basically any game in this series will probably age like milk considering how violatile fandom opinion is and every generation of people who plays a game likely gets different vibes. III's had a couple peaks and I'd say it's on the back end of one now, probably in for a couple years of backlash before it makes another comeback in 2030. The 2D Era resurgence kinda came out of nowhere and is ongoing so we'll see how that plays out. Is it a flawed game leading the series in an iffy direction like 2002 said? Is it a good game like 2005 said? Is it a forgotten relic like 2009 said? Is it garbage like 2015 said? Is it the foundation of a genre and the 'real' first game in the series like 2020 said? Is it overrated and glory stealing like 2023 said? Or will it be "Cromulent and Schway" by 2030? I dunno. Except San Andreas. That one has basically always held it's ground as either the best or one of the best, it's unshakable. They're fighting Rockstar right now. Me personally I uh, I like GTA Liberty City Stories best.
So basically like how there are 4 different Fallout Fandoms(The Interplay Fans, The Old Guard Bethesda Fans, The New Bethesda Fans, and The New Vegas Or Bust Crowd) all of whom will tell you completely different stories on how the series of evolved and all of whom violently disagree on which games are good, which are ok, etc. Fallout 3 for example, Interplay Fans hate it for hijacking the series and stealing it from them, Old Bethesda Fans love it and consider it the best in the series, The Obsidian Purists think it's good, but NV is better in every way, and the New Bethesda Fans think it looks ugly and it too slow paced and boring.
I'm going to come off as a bit of an ass when I say this but I think this is just what happens when a fandom exists for a massive legacy franchise like GTA. I've seen it in the TES community as well with OG's feeling they got left out to dry with Morrowind. Us Morrowind fans being a bit on the crappy side twords Oblivion and Skyrim Fans. Oblivion Fans getting the short end of the stick with it basically being seen as an old, flawed mess while Skyrim and Morrowind are getting all the love. Skyrim fans are getting bent by Bethesda along with some Morrowind fans are being unkind to them so they get heat quite a bit.
I just wanted to say I read this entire thing and I’m going to the hospital because I think I’m having a stroke. Jk, pretty accurate comment tbh. Personally I’ve always considered GTA III to be the pioneer, but like you said, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Great video. The research and narration. Love how you used Sopranos theme as background music too. Perfectly time-appropriate for early 2000s....I rememeber this game changed how I viewed games. Love it!
I personally still like it, being someone that played it as a kid and getting used to it. But if someone new tries it for the first time nowadays and isn't impressed, then I wouldn't blame them, it does show its age. It's worth remembering and appreciating it for what it was at its time, but it's not exactly a must play anymore.
I have leared the map of liberty city very fast,i can say for that for all gta's that i played, even better then my own city, and gta 3 and 4 for the are the best ones, ive finished gta 3 like 12 times on pc and on gta 4 im on my 5th playtrough now
Appreciate yet another video on GTA III still being talked about almost 25 years later. I do have some bias over it because of it being my favorite game ever, but damn, kill me if i ever let this game be forgotten. It does fall off over time in terms of looks and overall gameplay, but it has that nostalgic 2000s feel that cannot be expressed ever again in any game. IV came close, while VC and SA have their own vibes. So i cant say its a milk, that gets worse over time: or wine, that gets better; but i like to think that GTA III is like your grandmas silverware: it gets tarnish over time, but it will never loose its value. It just depends will the peeson use silverware today or skip it. Edit: I believe the best GTA III expirience is actually 10th year anniversary edition. Better graphics, so framerate is fixed (no flying over pavement and loosing hp), audio is higher quality, has checkpoint system and game still has original feel (i cant be sure, but i think map exists too on this edition, or its just on phone. I played it many times, so never really looked for map when i started 10th anni edition). Its weird no one really mentions this one, like ever
10th anniversary of III was definitely the best out of the 3D remasters IMO. I still prefer the original, but the 10th anniversary of III was much better than VC or SA’s 10th Anniversary
@@MTMMoonlight I gotcha! Been figuring out what I’m going to do with the channel and where I want to go with it… but the COD series, rockstar series, and FPS series are absolutes no matter what I decide.
24:53 "Grand Theft Auto 3 was never about the story", quote for truth. Nobody went into the game thinking "Oooh I hope this has some throught proving character development" or "I can't wait to see what amazing twists pop up in the storyline". It was a big thing because of the game part of the game and the same goes for all of the other entries in the series. It's not trying to be something that it isn't and never needed to be, yet it still pushed a ton of boundaries for the medium. To expect anymore from it is a little unreasonable to say the least. People frequently cite books as being a better medium for story than films, and it makes sense because you can do more without throwing a ton of money at it. Logically a big budget video game is going to be bottom of the barrel in that department since some of that budget needs to facilitate, you know, a game..
I think the creators made cluade not have a voice so that the player feel that connected too the game too where you make up your own dialogue as you go.
DMA Design made the first 3 GTA’s, not Rockstar. They were acquired by Rockstar in 2002 so Vice City was the first one made by them. If you mean publishing then that’s correct, but Rockstar had nothing to do with GTA 1, 2 was the first one they were publisher for. Also your timeline is missing stuff Rockstar existed before 2001. Where’s Smugglers Run and Austin Powers?
@@brodsteritaliano5666 To acknowledge your stuff in order… DMA Design was bought by Take-Two in 1999. Not 2002, I think you might be thinking about the rebranding year. My first video explains the history of how Rockstar North became to be…DMA was just renamed into rockstar north. It’s not two separate entities. BMG interactive was the OG publisher and had all the same founders of rockstar games so if I mention Rockstar with GTA 1 and 2 that’s why. Also that transition is also covered in the first video with the series. This entire series is going to be combined into one video at the end so the flow might be more enjoyable for you cause the whole video would cover everything. The timeline is not finalized and was changed between videos… still making a finalized version because I am not covering handhelds like the Austin powers games (they’re mentioned though), smugglers run is still possible, but that timeline was used for the video because those games are guaranteed. I won’t post a timeline if it has stuff I wouldn’t cover cause to me that wouldn’t be cool. Thank you for commenting and thank you for the support! Hopefully I responded to everything!
@@AppreciationCulture That would still put GTA 1 firmly before Rockstar though, right? So wouldn't that make it an acquired series like Max Payne and not a Rockstar original series?
@@SelfDrvingCar kinda… so GTA 1 is before the creation of Rockstar Games as an entity on an literal level because it was through BMG Interactive which is the precursor to Rockstar, they worked with multimedia entertainment, big into music as well, but BMG have been with GTA 1 since the beginning with all the same founders as Rockstar games… Once gta 1 came out BMG got bought by Take-Two who basically just wanted to start with a new Publisher all together so all the same founders with many of the same employees merged into the new creation, rockstar games… then stayed partnered with DMA until after GTA 2 was finished… take two then purchased DMA as well (1999), they made GTA 3, and then (did not make a new entity) they were just renamed Rockstar North (2002). Hope that gives you a ton of info and hopefully all of it makes sense… as for if I say in this video that Rockstar made Gta 1 that would either be an oversight or I wanted it to be simplified for newcomers so I didn’t retread over the same history stuff from the last vid. Wouldn’t remember which though just cause by the time I’m done with one script, I’m usually moving right onto the next one, and it’s out of sight out of mind. Thanks for commenting, saw your other one, and I appreciate the support!
Damn right its still good. I still love it the same way i did when i played it when it was first released. You have to have been there at the time to fully appreciate the nostalgia of it. Kids today that call it terrible or a pos are spoiled by the games now and the graphics that are so realistic in games now. They can't appreciate it cuz they didn't grow up with it and other games of that time.
I saw this yesrerday, saved it to downloads to watch it later, and then you removed it, and I was waiting for this video to reappear again on your channel❤❤❤
Both this and the Pokemon games pretty much saved my life as a child. Kids nowadays have no idea what it's like to truly break ground and smash records for setting the baseline for their respective sequels. To see the way graphics actually changed between the generations. Honestly nothing like it.
I remember the graphical change from ( I think ) madden 2000 to 2001. I almost fell out my computer chair before screaming for my dad to come check it out!
Honestly gta yters have made the gta 3 story better over the years from claude being a full blown psychopath to donald love being based on trump and the unanswered mystery of the oriental men and where he went after liberty city, hell maybe 6 will have a darkel like character a pure anarchist where you either side with him or fight against him.
I think gta 3 was the perfect testing ground for what gta would become. and that makes it good. but then you stop a while, to absorb all the details in the game world. and then you see it: the ambiance of the game is pure gold, few games have such a convincing little world. I think the difficulty and the wonky controls are just a reminder of "this game was done in a time where there wasn't any other game like it".
Played GTA 3 on PS2 when it came out, I have played every gta game and I never thought about it but you’re right , I did way more destruction and just dumb stuff in gta 3 than any other game, where that’s bc there was basically no character development or I was just a literal kid idk but it is true lol
I'm on the same boat as you, later GTA's had better vibes, that you soaked in without doing any kind of carnage (licenced songs also helped a lot). GTA III was such a mindblowing experience for me personally when it came out, I was about 12-13 at the time, and I was shocked from the violence you could do in it. Afterwards thinking, I was too young for the game for sure, gladly it didn't fuck me up though haha
5:15 So open world crime game? I've never heard city sandbox used in this context, that makes me think more Simcity. And I don't care really what people are saying these days, Vice City did everything 3 did better and still holds up extremely well to this day. If GTA III is the Wolfenstein of the series, Vice City is the Doom. III tried it, Vice City perfected it.
@@boibot9484 “The mechanics of open-world games are often overlapped with ideas of sandbox games, but these are considered different concepts. Whereas open world refers to the lack of limits for the player's exploration of the game's world, sandbox games are based on the ability of giving the player tools for creative freedom within the game to approach objectives, if such objectives are present.” - Gamasutra GTA 3 is an open world crime game but I believe that it qualifies as a sandbox game with everything I’ve read online… Sims has been tacked as a sandbox game and some don’t consider it open world at all which is kinda funny… (not saying that’s my belief but just pointing it out, tbh I don’t have many opinions on sims haha)… So in my eyes open world city sandbox would fit the bill for GTA 3 but also Open World Crime Game would as well… I feel that people could argue to the end of time if it’s a sandbox game or not but I think depending on your criteria that would determine your thoughts. Also 100% second you on Vice City, such a perfect game without any of the jankiness of 3.
Everyday TH-cam is recommending videos about GTA 3: If it's that good, if it's worth playing etc. I wonder why people decided to make videos about the game again.
Some maniac sent a list to bulletpoints he copied from a youtuber to over 1000 blogging and gaming sites, they're trying to make themselves out to be the most important game ever or some crap. Don't listen to the III diehards
i use this channel solely for audio for when i’m working. i try to actually watch as little as possible because as good as this guys scripts are, he’s over-editing with a less-than-appealing face and jesus man that hat is just-… but i agree. if he dropped that piece of editing and just had background game footage it would be superior content IMO.
Most shortcomings GTA 3 has are simply it not having modcons found in the later games. If that makes it a bad game then pretty much every game ever made is a bad game.
I would have never had the patience to beat the original PS2 GTA III bc of a lot of the major issues brought up in this video. I recently played through the definitive edition trilogy (apparently at the right time, it was coincidentally right around when the recent patches dropped that actually make the definitive editions tolerable and in the case of GTA III: better bc of the in game map, gps waypoints and updated controls) and I beat San Andreas with relative ease, I beat vice city after a lot of trial and error and legit frustration, but I have yet to beat III. I'll finish it, I think I've beat over 50 of the missions so I have to see it through but I'm in no rush to do so. It is not easy and extremely frustrating, even with the definitive edition improvements.
I enjoyed your video. You were repetitive at times but you’re a new channel. Some observations: both Vice City and San Andreas let you approach many missions however you like. I could cite examples if you don’t remember. It’s GTA IV when they took the freedom away. The Xbox versions are the definitive ones as they have all the additions over the PS2 versions, custom soundtracks, all the music and more. The PC modders patch in stuff from the Xbox version because it’s superior to the vanilla PC release. You are too easy on the Definitive Editions. Go watch the videos documenting 100s of changes for the worse (mostly things they left out/didn’t notice). You say you are a fan of Rockstar’s ambitions back then. Those 100s of issues are the things those of us who love the originals can’t get past with the Definitive Editions. Plus, y’know, music. And no inclusion of the PSP games. Definitive in name only.
I get the complaints, I do. But the fact of the matter is the game was the first of its type. Yeah, it was frustrating as hell when I was a kid. Yes, it has ridiculously shitty moments like the grenade in the window. But the game is what it is, and look at where the franchise is now.
@@nickyeet4683 Nick Yeeter, the chosen one… I’m sorry, it’ll be delayed to august, but when I know the exact date, you’ll be the first to know. Gonna drop a post about it today.
GTA 1-3 has effectively been wiped from the canon And I think it’s mostly because Claude and the games story were so outlandish and uncharacterized If GTA 3 was easier to make a plot sequel to then GTA 4 would’ve made references to it GTA 5 and GTAO hasn’t referenced anybody from 3 yet and that’s mad annoying I hope GTA 6 reveals Claude, Tommy, and CJ we’re all in Vice City in the 2000s->2010s and were working together, maybe killed Catalina (who had survived the helicopter crash) and she is the mom of the girl protagonist Drop a bunch of Easter eggs that, when put together, reveal more info about Claude’s past, which retcons a lot of GTA 3’s story but also keeps some key features like him having been in Liberty City and San Andreas before + being with Catalina previously Basically just cut to the chase and give Claude a personality, still quiet and reserved but he cracks jokes and stuff sometimes I would also reveal Claude Speed is a fake name and it’s actually Claude/Klaus Phillips and him and Trevor’s dads are brothers and both abusive (My headcanon is that all the leftover Sopranos-esque families and loose ends from 3 that weren’t addressed in 4 got killed, imprisoned, or run outta town after Claude left town) Basically reintroduce 1-3 in the canon but imply that it’s the version of events in Claude’s fucked up head/him only telling the stuff he remembers after an injury idk I miss Claude man And After GTA 6 they could do DLC where they flashback to when CJ, Tommy, and Claude all meet and work together idk Pipe dreams man I know, but I really hate how GTA 3s story has been erased man! I want to know where Claude is fuckin almost 30 years in-game later! Edit: like, if they ever remake GTA 4 (and GTA V with a map the size of GTA:SA would be sick!) within GTA 6s modern engine, I would love if they would take that map, reskin it into the late 90s, and then remake GTA 3s story, and by remake I mean overhaul the plot, use most of the same characters but also add new ones and use others from the series If they made the GTA 4 remake with this in mind they could also add Easter eggs around the map saying what I said earlier, everyone from before got taken or pushed out by the new wave of task force shit happening post- 14:11 the T erroris T attack In both games overhaul the map and have the missions use the map effectively Would be dope to have all 3 states in one engine and that seems to be a goal of theirs I really hope they don’t skimp out on GTA 6s map as a Florida native, I hope I see my neighborhood in-game 🙏 Do all the states in their fullest glory and then remake/remaster the story modes in all 6 titles Would probably need to recast people that Rockstar screwed over, unless they could work out new deals now that everyone knows their worth in the situation Probably won’t ever happen though, but if they recast the characters it could work Which is basically what they did in 5, Michael is the new Tommy, Franklin is the new CJ and Trevor is the new Claude I’m not mad, it was a creative route to take, but it would be absolutely insane to see all 6 characters interact man If everything went according to plan I bet GTA 4 would’ve originally been in Leonida and had all three characters meet up finally and help cement Tommy’s hold on the rest of the state, CJ and Claude become his right and left hand men XD No doubt in my mind that’s what they were going for with 5, bringing the vibes of all 3 original characters with the 3 protagonists
I feel like Claude’s character was lazily developed no background about Claude no lines no outfit change bo nothing, he just kills dips collects his check and that’s it, it’s boring all the other characters have a background, Claude is just creepy and even Trevor would probably not wanna be near him
I watched a doc recently by F4mi about the possibility of Criterion Games, their creation of RenderWare under Canon’s R&D Team, and how they might’ve stolen the entire concept of Burnout from an obscure Japanese Racing Game with a similar presence from 1998. What she mentioned is how RenderWare at the time was as revolutionary (if not more so) than the Unreal Engine would go on to be by the 7th Generation of Consoles in terms of what it could do and how it made 3D Gaming incredibly accessible. How does that tie into GTA III? Well, I’ve seen people in the comments talk about how it’s “basically Driver w/ everything from GTA I & II” and while that might be true to an extent, hearing developers marvel at how they even got RenderWare and the underpowered PS2 to even make a non-stop (nearly) loadless Open World sandbox operate at the complexity it did in GTA III is nothing short of interesting & worth pondering. Outside of game development, we tend to take for granted just how much work it takes to make stuff like this work, which is why it’s more impressive as time goes on when you look at how developers today tend to make unfinished games like it’s going out of style in the same Sandbox mold that GTA III truly established with 100 to 1000x the power but without the touch that makes them anything but pretty set pieces. Rockstar North, having started initially as DMA Designs, were notorious for breaking the mold when it came to what you can do and see in a video game and were one of very few that could manage to create an “Open World” as far back as Body Harvest on the N64 (aka 1/500th of the space of a DVD) and the experience being what they built on top of being the only positive when Nintendo stopped supporting them or pushing the game…which is funny because Rockstar would later only release one game on a Nintendo system after this: Manhunt 2! They might’ve hopped onto the Switch train by now, but it was a huge deal that they even released it on the Wii back then! So yeah, it’s a lot more impressive to hear about their exploits and how they made GTA III in the first place today than it is to play it as time has gone along…but it’s quite telling that the AAA Open World Game that ot spawned is still ever-present…
The things I always see people complain about >MUH MAP(the maps very easy to memorize, people complaining because they have to use their brain a little is ridiculous) >MUH MAFIA SHOTGUNS(I've replayed GTA 3 multiple times over the past couple years alone, this issue is very overexaggerated) >MUH CONTROLS(the games 25 years old and the controls aren't even that different from Vice City, San Andreas, etc. Honestly GTA 4 feels more clunky than GTA 3 to me) The game is great, holds up perfectly.
@@TonyBustaroni Dude honestly I think it holds up a lot better than what most people say, still think it’s outdated with some stuff, but I hear some people say “it’s crap! So bad!” And that shocks me. That’s a hot take on GTA 4 but respect ❤️
Ehm....you got the story wrong, the cartel assaults the convoy at the beginning to free the oriental old man for donald love (who isn't a government agent but an entrepreneur), it's aknowledged later when love hires claude to go free him because the cartel demanded more money to give him up. The Leones don't betray Claude to make peace with the triads but with the cartel, that's because Catalina was with miquel head of the Cartel since the beginning, this is why Catalina tries to kill him in the intro, she and Miguel are going in the spank business and give up robberies, hence Claude was no longer needed
As someone who has beaten the original 3D Universe GTAs dozens of times, I have to say: GTA3 is the one with the most bullshit difficulty. I still have nightmares about Bomb da Base. Granted I was only 12 when I first played the game, but it took the combined efforts of 2 of my friends and me to beat that mission. And there was also the one with the espresso stands... and about 80% of the missions....
Ok I should have waited a couple more minutes you did sort of address it(albeit not mentioning the Elder Scrolls is extremely weird, Daggerfall stan right here). Still feels like way too much credit, I didn't think anyone considered Grand Theft Auto anywhere near that important in the genre and I've never heard that before.
@@LucySerprize you’re all good! Big Elder Scrolls and fallout fan here as well! I wanted to keep the focus on GTA 3 so I don’t dwell long on the history of open world games as a whole… I do standby that GTA 3 deserves a ton of credit though, video game historians cite it constantly for being huge for open world games in the 2000s and sandbox video gaming spawning tons of gta clones in the 2000s. Never got around to daggerfall but that’s on my backlog!
since i owned a PC i was always a massive fan of the 2d games, so when they released GTA3 i hated it. i played it and thought what the hell is this crap, i never played through the entire game, its the only gta game i didn't complete. After they released vice city i started getting into it though.
gta 3 is piss easy if you got some experience with it! the only GTA really easier than it is GTA 5 and even that mostly because of its checkpoints and mission skipping feature. also playing it with mouse and keyboard helps alot with shooting.
I trust AC, but I don't trust his sources. The III era diehards have been colluding to get as many bloggers and essayists on their side as possible since 2019, they want to be the more important game since Pac-Man. Don't buy their crap, people inside the fandom are done with their nonsense.
Basically everything III did gameplay wise was in GTA 1 and 2. Everything. Every type of side mission was in one of those two(Even the RC Buggy missions were a thing in 1). It’s just the first 2 games in 3D, and Driver already did that. Nothing special.
@@jordanmurray410 yeah mostly because the vehicle are a lot more fragile and blow up much quicker, every GTA after the vehicles take much longer blow up and can handle more damgae
I think even Trevor in GTA5 is not really psychotic enough for player avatar. I still find having a main character with story, or backstory, or any such thing, is a bad idea. I didn't like San Andreas because of the dissonance, and I never even played Vice City because the main character was voiced. Finished GTA5 recently, and my highest praise for the plot was, it didn't get in the way of the game that much, but I did play pretty much as a law-abiding citizen most of the time to avoid the dissonance. The missions were quite fun tho.

Love both comment from OG and reply. Everything said is on plave.
Should be pinned
I honestly can’t tell if this is all accurate or you just managed to make the shit you made up sound convincing.
Yes. To me in 2001, it did a lot. I cherish it to this day.
Awesome vid. So happy the grenade in the window had its own little segment. That was hell as a young kid back in the day.
Great video. Hope you're going to do a vice city
42:06 It takes practice, but it's toally possible to throw just 1 grenade there bullseye
and just 2 grenades used overall in this mission

DMA Design made the first 3 GTA’s, not Rockstar. They were acquired by Rockstar in 2002 so Vice City was the first one made by them.
If you mean publishing then that’s correct, but Rockstar had nothing to do with GTA 1, 2 was the first one they were publisher for.
Also your timeline is missing stuff Rockstar existed before 2001. Where’s Smugglers Run and Austin Powers?
@@brodsteritaliano5666
To acknowledge your stuff in order…
DMA Design was bought by Take-Two in 1999.
Atmospheric masterpiece
Damn right its still good. I still love it the same way i did when i played it when it was first released. You have to have been there at the time to fully appreciate the nostalgia of it. Kids today that call it terrible or a pos are spoiled by the games now and the graphics that are so realistic in games now. They can't appreciate it cuz they didn't grow up with it and other games of that time.
Claude shooting Maria is obviously a joke. xD
I saw this yesrerday, saved it to downloads to watch it later, and then you removed it, and I was waiting for this video to reappear again on your channel❤❤❤
Enough with the stupid pictures.... god damn...
Damn dude, found my next fave restrospective channel.
I think cod next, then gta 1/2
I know it’s an old game but spoilers bro damn
5:15 So open world crime game? I've never heard city sandbox used in this context, that makes me think more Simcity.
And I don't care really what people are saying these days, Vice City did everything 3 did better and still holds up extremely well to this day. If GTA III is the Wolfenstein of the series, Vice City is the Doom. III tried it, Vice City perfected it.
@@boibot9484 “The mechanics of open-world games are often overlapped with ideas of sandbox games, but these are considered different concepts. Whereas open world refers to the lack of limits for the player's exploration of the game's world, sandbox games are based on the ability of giving the player tools for creative freedom within the game to approach objectives, if such objectives are present.” -
Gamasutra
GTA 3 is an open world crime game but I believe that it qualifies as a sandbox game with everything I’ve read online… Sims has been tacked as a sandbox game and some don’t consider it open world at all which is kinda funny… (not saying that’s my belief but just pointing it out, tbh I don’t have many opinions on sims haha)… So in my eyes open world city sandbox would fit the bill for GTA 3 but also Open World Crime Game would as well… I feel that people could argue to the end of time if it’s a sandbox game or not but I think depending on your criteria that would determine your thoughts.
Don't listen to the III diehards
because what other good game is there to make videos about. gta 3 & skyrim, that's about it.
great video but please stop putting your face on it it is distracting
i use this channel solely for audio for when i’m working. i try to actually watch as little as possible because as good as this guys scripts are, he’s over-editing with a less-than-appealing face and jesus man that hat is just-… but i agree. if he dropped that piece of editing and just had background game footage it would be superior content IMO.
It’s gorgeous.
it tells you what car you have just gotten into..
Definitive in name only.
you played the steam version with the dark cars bug
I get the complaints, I do. But the fact of the matter is the game was the first of its type. Yeah, it was frustrating as hell when I was a kid. Yes, it has ridiculously shitty moments like the grenade in the window. But the game is what it is, and look at where the franchise is now.

@@nickyeet4683 Nick Yeeter, the chosen one… I’m sorry, it’ll be delayed to august, but when I know the exact date, you’ll be the first to know. Gonna drop a post about it today.
GTA 1-3 has effectively been wiped from the canon
And I think it’s mostly because Claude and the games story were so outlandish and uncharacterized
If GTA 3 was easier to make a plot sequel to then GTA 4 would’ve made references to it
GTA 5 and GTAO hasn’t referenced anybody from 3 yet and that’s mad annoying
I hope GTA 6 reveals Claude, Tommy, and CJ we’re all in Vice City in the 2000s->2010s and were working together, maybe killed Catalina (who had survived the helicopter crash) and she is the mom of the girl protagonist
Drop a bunch of Easter eggs that, when put together, reveal more info about Claude’s past, which retcons a lot of GTA 3’s story but also keeps some key features like him having been in Liberty City and San Andreas before + being with Catalina previously
Basically just cut to the chase and give Claude a personality, still quiet and reserved but he cracks jokes and stuff sometimes
I would also reveal Claude Speed is a fake name and it’s actually Claude/Klaus Phillips and him and Trevor’s dads are brothers and both abusive
(My headcanon is that all the leftover Sopranos-esque families and loose ends from 3 that weren’t addressed in 4 got killed, imprisoned, or run outta town after Claude left town)
Basically reintroduce 1-3 in the canon but imply that it’s the version of events in Claude’s fucked up head/him only telling the stuff he remembers after an injury idk
I miss Claude man
And After GTA 6 they could do DLC where they flashback to when CJ, Tommy, and Claude all meet and work together idk
Pipe dreams man I know, but I really hate how GTA 3s story has been erased man! I want to know where Claude is fuckin almost 30 years in-game later!
Edit: like, if they ever remake GTA 4 (and GTA V with a map the size of GTA:SA would be sick!) within GTA 6s modern engine, I would love if they would take that map, reskin it into the late 90s, and then remake GTA 3s story, and by remake I mean overhaul the plot, use most of the same characters but also add new ones and use others from the series
If they made the GTA 4 remake with this in mind they could also add Easter eggs around the map saying what I said earlier, everyone from before got taken or pushed out by the new wave of task force shit happening post- 14:11 the T erroris T attack
In both games overhaul the map and have the missions use the map effectively
Would be dope to have all 3 states in one engine and that seems to be a goal of theirs
I really hope they don’t skimp out on GTA 6s map as a Florida native, I hope I see my neighborhood in-game 🙏
Do all the states in their fullest glory and then remake/remaster the story modes in all 6 titles
Would probably need to recast people that Rockstar screwed over, unless they could work out new deals now that everyone knows their worth in the situation
Probably won’t ever happen though, but if they recast the characters it could work
Which is basically what they did in 5, Michael is the new Tommy, Franklin is the new CJ and Trevor is the new Claude
I’m not mad, it was a creative route to take, but it would be absolutely insane to see all 6 characters interact man
If everything went according to plan I bet GTA 4 would’ve originally been in Leonida and had all three characters meet up finally and help cement Tommy’s hold on the rest of the state, CJ and Claude become his right and left hand men XD
No doubt in my mind that’s what they were going for with 5, bringing the vibes of all 3 original characters with the 3 protagonists
💯
I'm ready for GTA 6! These past GTAs have been so successful and made our love for GTA so amazing that GTA 6 has no choice but to excite us!
The things I always see people complain about
>MUH MAP(the maps very easy to memorize, people complaining because they have to use their brain a little is ridiculous)
>MUH MAFIA SHOTGUNS(I've replayed GTA 3 multiple times over the past couple years alone, this issue is very overexaggerated)
>MUH CONTROLS(the games 25 years old and the controls aren't even that different from Vice City, San Andreas, etc. Honestly GTA 4 feels more clunky than GTA 3 to me)
The game is great, holds up perfectly.
I’m replaying a port of it
It’s still stupidly hard XD

@@LucySerprize you’re all good! Big Elder Scrolls and fallout fan here as well! Basically everything III did gameplay wise was in GTA 1 and 2. Everything. Every type of side mission was in one of those two(Even the RC Buggy missions were a thing in 1). It’s just the first 2 games in 3D, and Driver already did that. Nothing special.

I still find having a main character with story, or backstory, or any such thing, is a bad idea. I didn't like San Andreas because of the dissonance, and I never even played Vice City because the main character was voiced.
