  • This 8mm footage was taken at "The Oaks" in the autumn of 1978, several months before a fire destroyed the Parrish house on February 24, 1979. Fortunately, Parrish's studio remained untouched by the fire. A new structure was eventually built upon the foundations of the original Parrish home.

Thank you for sharing this. Today 2024 and 2023 we go paint there in a group from the library art center and I found this video so fascinating.

Visited in the 1980's new house, original Studio, garage and Chapel still intact! As a Maxfield Parrish collector it was one of the highlights in my life to visit there! Like no place else, quite Magical!

You and me both! I wonder if he ever knew just how much his art has touched and inspired other's.

NIce video! "The Oaks" is in Plainfield, NH. After Parish's death in 1966 it lay vacant until the Gilberts turned it into a sort of Museum/Inn/Tavern, managed by a friend of mine. It burned down in 1979, but has been rebuilt as far as I know.

I got to visit many years ago. My favorite part was seeing the daybreak in "Daybreak"!

a look into what influenced Parrish. What he saw day to day. Pretty neat. New England is the prettiest part of the country imo.

There were probably at least $50 million worth of paintings at today's prices.

At this point I think the 1970s seem more like a dream than MP . . . 😺😺😺

Only months before the fire. Are the paintings on the walls original or reproductions? Were they removed beforehand?

It’s not in Cornish, it’s in Plainfield, or it was until it burned.

Is the studio open to tourists?

The Parrish house is in Plainfield, not Cornish.
