SAILING TO BOLLYWOOD - SwT 167 - FIJI IS SO FULL OF SURPRISES

- I'm so thankful for being able to visit amazing places like this and Fiji is definitely high up on my list so far in the entire Pacific. In fact, I'm questioning myself if I spent too much time in Polynesia. The friendliest people so far, and such serene and beautiful nature. And absolutely cruiser-friendly. I believe the local guy is right, and I could feel his worries for the future. I know the neighboring island also belonging to Fiji where most tourist goes is relatively destroyed by mass tourism.

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser, making videos whenever we have time for it.
Even though this is season 6 on TH-cam I did not make that many videos in the beginning. Before full-time sailing, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean before, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I have been traveling the world before and have also been an active regatta sailor. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.
PLEASE BE KIND IN THE COMMENTS!
I'm just a normal person sharing my travel adventure through my eyes and experience from my perspective! Remember how I do things that might work for me but not for you. It might even not be the correct way to do things, and I don't have the blueprint either. I'm not perfect and nobody is. The day I believe I know it all and don't think I can learn new things I should go ashore.
For real sailor, not a rummy on a mooring in a harbor. That’s you Thomas.
Wonderful travel. Thanks Thomas.
This is how a sailing channel should present its videos. Great stuff Thomas.

Thanks for another great video!!!!!
Love it mate……. that horizon looks so flat and beautiful 😊
Fantastic, thanks for sharing.
A Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you Thomas, and to all your Viewers. Bob in Wales. 🎄🎄🎄🧑🎄🧑🎄🧑🎄❤️❤️❤️
Thomas, as always, I enjoy your honest insight and opinions about the places you visit. As a lover of raw nature my self, I guess I can relate to the idea of wanting to visit such places as well when one he is on a long journey and have the need to re-provision at times. Great to walk in such a grocery store. But no thanks for all their so called evolution. The financial earnings of tourism has ruined many paradises around the world. In a few years, normal sailors won't even be able to anchor around those islands without having to pay a high fee and who knows how many other sort of restrictions they will be implying to visiting sailors. Thanks for the nice video enjoy your trips
Well said !
I love your videos. You always nail it with the cool music, and the great views off your Bavaria.
Great video Thomas same smooth camera work.
Looking awesome dude keep it up ❤ from 🇨🇦
Man! You’re bringing all this into our attention, with just a few Patreons giving something back. This is just getting better and better 🙏🏽
Ahh.. the big blue is where I want to be! Thanks for sharing
great video
Ahhh ! Be Free did enjoy that placid cruise across tranquil waters. Made me envious to have been with her and really experienced the journey...Wow!
But ones aging gallops too quick ahead of our thoughts..
Thomas..thanks heaps mate with your explicated coverage. Only problem is i get no sea air of that motion of the ocean.
I go away from comments for a time, but am still watching...so you had better look after your lady...she seems to always obey your direction, even with that occasional fine tune or service of her requirements. Love every episode so much, to make me dream..thanks heaps Thomas.👍
This is beautiful Thomas enjoy🖐💙😊
Nice video Thomas.
Wish you already a good X-mas 🎄and thanks for all the beautiful videos this year🙏🏻
Beautiful sailing in calm but narrow waters- - agree with you on saving Fiji for the future (when greed for more is checked!)
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and lots of good luck.
You realy go to some beautiful places Thomas Merry Christmas My friend.
Staring a crab in their eyes, holding tank foam, and the sounds of sailing.💨 ⛵️
Thanks for sharing.
Passionate sailor and follower of many channels. You are the bomb Thomas. So knowledgable but not at all full of your own steam. Great insight to your amazing adventure, off on another of mine to Hobart racing on a tp52. #Denali. Fair winds, not expecting the same😂
Thank you so much for your kind words 🙏🏻 I really love to know real sailors also enjoy this channel. A TP52 in NZ sounds epic! Lots of wind and a fast and funny boat to sail! Enjoy ⛵️
Scary how quickly some places change! Enjoyed the open water passages - did you use a separate microphone to pick up the sound of the waves? The sound of the water is wonderful, like a tonic for the soul.
Hey Thomas,
Your video just came into my feed. First time in 6 weeks. Just looked and you've been posting videos the whole time. Just wanted you to know if engagement seems down there may be an algorithm reason.
Anyway now I have something to watch for the morning in order to catch up. Stay safe, happy sailing!
C’mon folks and give it a thumbs up 👍🏽
Hi Thomas, the bread in Latoka is made about four times a day. You can buy fresh very cheap. The supermarkets are always well-stocked. The ice cream is one of the best in the world if you like ice cream. I even have cream buns at the bakery which are very good if you get a chance try some chicken curry and rice with roti once you’ve had it, you always remember the taste it is fantastic. I live on that when I’m in Fiji on the mission trip Keep up the good work , Cliff from Logan City Queensland Australia 🇦🇺🧑🏾🦽
Fantastic, more beautiful sailing in paradise.I really enjoy the educational aspect also, and including past/current situation of each place you visit.
pity you didnt want to go to Vanua Balavu Island. Have only seen pictures of it but it seems like no other paradise on earth will match your expectations of this. You make such good videos it would be nice to have seen this with you.
Why is downwind sailing more heavy on the equipment than beam reaches etc..? What are the key points?
Nice Wharram at 16:20 👌🏽
I actually had you in my mind filming it. Happy you noticed 👍🏻 Cheers 🍻
If you were looking for a boat all over again, would you go for a Bavaria again or something else? Asking for a landlocked friend.
Hej Thomas, Love your show in the tropics, a great contrast to the adventures of Alluring Arctic channel in Alaska, thos two Finns have Sisu😎
Hi Thomas, Thanks for the wonderful content! You keep saying that the water is cold. What are the temperatures like in that area of the Pacific?
Hi Thomas, you strike me as a super analytical sailor. How much time do you spend on the work of predicting weather and currents? I only sail in the Baltic Sea but tend to spent quite some time on “Windy”.
You are spot on in your analysis of me as a sailor. I do lots of research and look at weather predictions every day. Not only at my current location but even far ahead of where I’m going. This to learn and analyze what to expect as it’s many places local phenomena that could effect me. It’s also a nerdy interest I have had since young. Trying to understand what’s going on with the weather.
All the best
Great, great video again ! I was in Tahiti, Fiji, New Caledonia, The Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinean on and off between 1979 and 1984 as a Merchant mariner. We also visited some locations
off the regular routes like Tarawa and New Britain. In those days, Fiji (Suva in particular) was the most promiscuous place we ever visited at sea. All of the places east of New Caledonia and New Britain/PNG were incredibly safe and friendly. It’s a shame that you have to move on as there is so much to see in that part of the world.
Don't tell the World ? Yep Thomas, in the late 1960's, Ibiza was still a Real Gem, that was only spoiled by the presence of some Dippy Hippies, and like the rest of the Mediterranean today, a place to avoid imho. I was lucky enough to experience so many olaces around the Mediterranean before they got turned into Sh*>*holes. Bob. 🤔
