Anthony Davis is incrediblly underrated because of his versatility. He can join any team and make them better because he has so many strenghts. Whther they be shooting, rebounding, rim protection, switchability, rolling, screen setting, passing, or jumping passing lanes, he will find a way to impact the game.

@Cam The difference is that AD can mesh well with other ball dominant superstars. For example, Harden, a top 10 player, won't have as large of an impact as AD if he joins a team say with Lebron or Luka. This is because Harden's playstyle and skillset is so dependent on having the ball. For AD, much of his value is actually off-ball such as his otherworldly lob catching ability or his top 3 defense.

AD is the ideal small ball 5. Big enough to protect the paint, fast enough to switch and play on the perimeter, and can stretch out to the 3-point line on offense. Him playing 5 has been key to the Lakers dominating the Rockets and now the Heat, two small ball teams.
I think there is only one other player in the league who could be better than AD as a small ball 5, but unfortunately never ever plays the 5: Giannis. It's unfortunate we couldn't see them match up in the finals this year.
EDIT to those piling on Giannis's shooting: I agree, his shooting is a problem, but my main point is, Giannis needs to be playing the 5 a lot more!

Giannis can't stretch out to the 3 point line on offense cuz he's a lousy and a sub-par shooter..the only + I'll give to giannis is the fact that he's faster and better at penetration.. But the problem is that in the playoffs it's always a half court game, so great shooters and post players like AD thrives under this circumstances

AD is the real MVP of this playoffs.
When he has a bad game, the Lakers lose.
When he has a great game (even without big numbers), the Lakers become almost unstopable.
The best way to reduce AD's impact on defense is to star Olynyk. He is not as good as Adebayo but his game forces AD out of the paint and creates better offense for the Heat.
Adebayo should become the 6th Man off the bench and help Jimmy get some time off too.
Spoelstra and most coaches like to force their best hands over the Lakers wich is a bad thing to do.
Thats why I think that Boston would be a bigger natural problem for the Lakers. They can play 5 out without compromising rebounding and defense.

@@cidmatrix9643 I wonder if it's his agility or if it's his screen navigation. I thought at least that the reason why Giannis is so dominant is because of his guard like agility and incredible length. I do remember that Ben mentioned how Giannis's perimeter defense is lowered bc his frame is too large to effectively navigate around screens.

AD weaponizes his length in a more effective way and he is simply a better rim protector. I think rim-protection is the area where AD separates himself from Giannis on defense. Though they are still close overall

Normally, whenever I see someone stick out their hand away from their body and touch someone going up for a shot that gets called. I know nothing about the actual rules (never read them) but it seems to me that when a “modern rip-through” is called a foul then this should be, too.

How much would it help right now for Miami to have Dragic or any other lead guard to facilitate? If you want to put Davis on Jimmy but then make him a cutter rather than a lead ball handler, does that help to take some of his impact away? Jimmy's not exactly a knockdown a shooter, so maybe he just cheats off him and goes back to being a roaming help monster, but it seems like it might help to be less predictable and have him out of the main action on every play.

    • @aquamarineice4933
      @aquamarineice4933 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's one reason why I feel he should be Finals MVP, depending on what happens in game 5. Anthony Davis anchors the defense, without him the Lakers are giving up 120 DRTG. He switches out on the perimeter and then gets in the paint to stop drives, defends the lanes, and allows the Lakers to score in transition due to stopping whomever he's guarding on the defensive end, which is instrumental to the team's success because they've struggled at times in the half court. Davis is shooting 61/55/100 from the field on offense, and with LeBron off the court, the Lakers have an even better offensive rating than with the two of them on the floor and his usage skyrockets and so does the efficiency of the Lakers' players. This is because AD demands so much attention getting double-teamed in the post allowing the Lakers to get open shots and cuts to the basket. These things don't show up on the box score. Not to say LeBron isn't playing great, but AD is the one galvanizing the team on the offensive and defensive ends. The Curry comparison is good because his play has allowed the Lakers to go on and sustain their runs.

In hockey and soccer, there's a stat called "expected goals" which takes all the shot attempts and the league avg shooting percentages from all the shot locations to determine essentially how many goals should be or should've been scored in the game. Is there a stat like this in basketball?
