  • It all started with a knee ache. Elizabeth Knight was exercising in her basement when her leg started getting tight. As the night went on, the pain got worse. Elizabeth's husband drove her to the Emergency Department at Nebraska Medicine - Bellevue. Doctors discovered an infection inside Elizabeth's knee. They needed to operate. Not once, but twice. During the second surgery, Elizabeth took a turn for the worst. She had sepsis - an overwhelming infection. Her lungs began filling with fluid and she was placed on a ventilator. Elizabeth was also diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. For over a week, Elizabeth remained in the Intensive Care Unit. It took nine days for the infection to leave her body. She was finally able to go home the day before Thanksgiving. To learn more about Nebraska Medicine - Bellevue, visit bellevue.nebraskamed.com or call (877) 763-3001.
