Not supported doesn't mean it won't work, it means you cannot call for support if you have an issue and want VMware to troubleshoot, it's falls under the EOS catagory
Exactly! You got it. What you'll typically find in situations such as this, especially with versions of ESXi, is that the farther away you get from officisl supporl, the probability of incompatability increases, typically due to older hardware such as CPUs and drive controllers. ESXi 8 is notorious for not just lack of 'support' for older hardware, but outright incompatability. Many online have stated that it most likely will not allow install, but In this case, it passes with flying colors!
How did you handle Disks? I'm trying ESXi 7 but the LUN created on the b140i card is not appearing as an install option or as a Datastore, just the individual drives. Oddly, this system was running in Prod with a RAID5 before it was decommissioned. However, that was ESXi 6.5.
thanks for the heads up! love to see what older dell servers still support esxi 8?

This one is using the front SSDs as just additional individual drives at the moment. That's odd.
Just tried an install with ESXi 8.0b and it allowed me to install to one of the front SSDs.
Hi, Does it detect internal SAS Drives or SSD drive? as i'm looking to purchase G9 for homelab. Thanks
Sometime around the 1:18 time frame it shows the two internal 250gb ssd drives. It should show SAS drives as well.
@@Warning56kb great thanks but can you install the ESXI 8 on the internal HDD?
