- Here we go again with another Free Mow Fridays where I knock on a random persons door and ask if I can clean up their overgrown yard for free. Their mower was broken so they were very thankful.

Just based on the title. My advice is tell the homeowner you almost can’t kill grass. It’ll go dormant but never die. For 1; it was a free lawn job and 2; it’ll grow back and as long as they keep up on it it’ll be beautiful and green again with a little rainfall. Sprinklers are for assholes that don’t care about the planet and water shortages. You’re doing a great job every time I watch! Keep doing you Tim!

They have places to take it too to turn into mulch.
I watch Quick Cuts Lawn Care, Blade Mate Lawn Care and a few other Aussie ones, and they all remove waste, and even rubbish. The rubbish and garden clippings etc all go to the local tip.
Isnt it sometimes a bad things to remove all of the waste? Ive seen videos where they say to leave it to replenish the nitrogen or whatever. Im sure too much waste left is bad, but....
@@bluemyst42 if the clippings are too long they will suffocate the grass. Short clippings you can leave as a natural mulch I think

It’s interesting how in Australia the water meter is on the front lawn and water heater is put outside. In the states the water meter is inside equipped with a transmitter the water company can read remotely and the water heater is also inside. All of which is housed in a utility closet or room in the basement of a house or building.
Because of this I relax,watching you work KUDOS! GREAT JOB!

I don't understand why people have these beautiful homes built, some with landscaping, and they let thier lawns grow out of control, but that's just me. Great work again Tim.
............. Money, time, tools broken, health problems. Just because it's a nice home doesn't mean they own the home, which means they might not have the cash to pay for cutting.
Maybe she couldn't afford the new mower just then.
Also climate, it's brutally hot in Australia so I can see why some folks avoid it during the hot months.
@@Espresso101 true or like me when your job is landscaping you don't really want to come home and do that after 10-12 hours in the baking sun lol.
She said their lawn mower was broken. It happens. Some folks don’t have the cash to repair or replace immediately. Could have a sick kid. Might be between jobs. Might have other priorities. Lucky for Tim there are plenty of worthy recipients for Free Friday.

The hooray of the day, is finding the utilities, which would have been lost in the overgrowth. That would have been a lot of grass mass to remove/mow in just that small area. Thank you to your friend Lee, that has made so many cleanups possible.
I would love to see a quick bit at the end with like a lawn heath rating and what to watch for.

The steps probably finish at the property front boundary , also the post delivery people ride their machines along the grass letter box to letterbox without dismounting .

That was an interesting observation. It looks like they did that pattern to a series of houses. The stairs go down to the mailbox apparently but the mail person has to cross grass to get to them.

I think it was that color before you cut it. Just like a Forrest the top gets the sun but below the canopy it’s dead or dying. Some water and sunshine will help it.

in the UK the lawn never dead if you cut short as long the roots are ok it dont matter what it looks like it will turn green in a couple of days
SPRAY THE GREEN STUFF ON IT. YES, I KNOW IT WILL GROW BACK GREEN AGAIN.
It looks dead but because the short grass has not seen the sun in such a long time it looks dead. Give it some water and a little time and it will come back green.

Not everyone uses their yard, some people aren’t mature enough for taking care of their yard, and some people bought more property than they can afford to maintain, so they think cutting it short, will save them a mowing job. Not having the resources from good lawn equipment, takes all the enjoyment out of maintaining property. Other people would rather spend their money on entertainment, or toys. They don’t realize that they could be enjoying time at home, if they invested in their property. I’m glad you are enjoying yourself, nice job 👍🏻
It’s weird how the front walkway ends where a path might begin or not go all the way to the street. This really came out nicely!
Homeowners can’t build anything across the public verge without council approval. Looks like it’s a fairly new housing development - maybe council is planning to put in a concrete footpath?

That's the nightmare "grass" that's so problematic, right? All the landscape channels I see hate it lol
@@_Julie_Bee it is the "problematic" grass if it needs dethatching but i just keep a brush cutter blade in the ute to deal with it, this hasn't had enough time to form several layers by the looks.
Kikuyu bounces back within a few days even in winter only way to kill it is by digging it out of the ground.
Great grass for cattle, its cheap for houses, is a soft grass and it just needs regular maintenance.
@@tomhalf3018 oh ok , so getting a power broom/brush/sweeper(whatever they are called) attachment for your weed trimmer would be great as they can kinda detangle it all regularly. Gotcha. The more you know, right? ☺️
@@_Julie_Bee aslong as its a metal blade 😂 there are rubber cylinder broom attachments for weedeaters to clean concrete
The blades only go on straight shaft trimmers too, its good to cut everything short with that then do a nice second uniform cut with mower
@@tomhalf3018 those cylinder ones also have metal and plastic brushes! I (ok my husband lol) use it on everything, but to clean up the lawn in the spring, and brush off the debris left from snow in the winter, like gravel, dirt ett, it's the best! But also for snow removal, leaves and everything.
