The default is that any business can deny business to anyone at any time for any reason. And why not? It's THEIR business. It's a terrible business decision, but it's theirs to make. The creation of 'protected classes' watered this down. You CANNOT deny someone business for being part of a protected class. Political beliefs is NOT a protected class in most places. It is in California, New York, and Washington state, but as you might expect from those areas, the laws tend to be enforced only one way. In fact, depending on the state prosecutor, all the others tend to be enforced only one way. In Seattle, for example, the prosecutor tried to destroy a florist for not making a special arrangement for a gay wedding, but was completely okay with a gay coffee shop owner screaming at a religious group and kicking them out of his store after taking their money and giving them nothing in return.

That's fine, they have to make money, but they told me to and my group to leave after 2 hours because they had a yugioh tournament coming in. When I asked about a refund they said it wasn't their fault that they had more sign ups for the tournament than they had tables. Again, the owner's wife was the one dealing with me. My friend literally knew the owner and asked him about these incidents when he saw him again. The owner apologized profusely and offered to make it up to me somehow but I never went back before they went out of business.

The BattleTech Community Manager is working on rewriting the lore into some sort of woke garbage. Grummz made a post on X last year on April 8th about this.
It is thanks to the tens of thousands of people from California who moved to cities like Austin and Houston that continue to do the same things that created the conditions which caused them to flee to Texas while expecting a different result.
@rflett5797 I feel that....cause that's me tbh 😅 I moved to Texas because I'm paying the same for a 2 story 4 bedroom home rather than a one bedroom apartment in South Central for 2.5K I promise I'm one of the good ones 😅
I've been to this store. It's the last time they get my business or that if my fellow gamers. There may not be a ton of gaming stores left. But they'll do better after the customers stop using this store. It's sad, because this will only damage the store, because Texas is overwhelmingly conservative.
I am saddened that Battletech has fallen to the alphabet mafia, I’ve been a fan, reading books and playing since the early 90’s. Pledged on both the Clan Invasion and Mercenaries Kickstarters, but now I’m wondering if I’ll ever buy anything new.
Game Knight in Manchester,NH had a "climate action now" sign on the front door. didn't even go in. they've been sold to someone who doesn't tell half their customers they are not welcome.
I saw the title and figured it might be Gigabites Cafe near me. They’re way lefty in there. I was going to start playing 40k there and take my kid there to get Pokémon cards. Until I went in one day and they had some little guy prancing while working there in cat ears and a French maid outfit. And I could tell it wasn’t a prank or a lost bet. This guy was the real deal mental case. Guess that’s part of why they don’t have a Pokémon league anymore. It’s a pretty normal/mildly conservative area and the parents around here don’t participate in the silliness.
I just tell them to stop asking me to date them if they want to act like that in public and that our standing date night is now called off. Shuts them down almost every time.
Unfortunately, the tabletop gaming scene is pretty much a lost cause. It might get better in a few years, but truthfully, I doubt it. Your best bet is to start a game store that doesn't discriminate.
In the middle of printing a 2000 pt saurian star host army right now not going to lie being a flag waving trump supporter something like this happening to me has been a thought in the back of my mind the whole time.....shouldn't be a thing......frustrating
Sigh. Great video about an unfortunate story that is becoming way too common. Blaine deserved better from stupid Topps and Castillo deserved better from this soon to be vacant storefront. I still love Battletech, but I've not played in years (exception: the HBS computer game which I play fairly often), mainly because there's been too much modern day BS infecting things I've loved for decades. And having worked at comic/gaming stores, I know they generally can't afford to turn away any paying customer, so this employee Simon may end up costing the owner his business. Pity. I had a friend who ran a combination games/comics store. He found many gamers and comics fans to be annoying and frustrating, but he did all he could to get them the items they looked for and made spaces for them to play tourneys of games such as the various clix games (don't ask me how many Mechwarrior Clix figures I still have. I don't even know, but it is hundreds) and whatever else was a draw because that's what his business was supposed to do. He usually had me (diplomatic sort that I am) on hand to deal with the gamers and to help him identify product to order for said gamers. Because that's what businesses should do: keep the customers happy and spending. Modern morality play has no place in business planning. Unless someone is actively performing or encouraging or discussing performing seriously illegal activities out loud in the public space, let people speak. Those who act hatefully, from any perspective, will be isolated by and from the others who disagree so there's no point in banning them. Stay neutral and sell product. It's that fricking simple. And don't hire excessively opinionated jackwagons to work in your store as they will likely drive away customers. Like Simon has probably done. Good luck with your works Jon!
Yet someone cannot confront a person of being a pedophile in person online or in this video with zero experience it’s defamation and that’s a serious law itself. Slandering someone’s name in an article yet alone is a huge lawsuit on the creator. I don’t know what side to believe. Yet it sounds like an attack on a store with gay and trans employees yet. Using religion as a shield. Yet the defamation suit would be the only thing to have any argument for a lawsuit here and it looks like they would be directed to Jon. The person of this post.
Well since they probably made it quite well known who this guy is, he should just sue them for violating his Civil Rights. See if their little game store can afford that. And specifically sue the owners for defamation. Further. Any Comic Store that does this is NOT GEN X. We don't really give an F what you say or believe.

I've got plenty of the old Ral Partha lead minis, including an Unseen Warhammer and Marauder. I'm set for a good long while. Although my rule books are a bit tattered...
Is there an organized boycott of Catalyst? I’m frustrated because I honestly like SOME - not all - of the current story threads. I would like to buy some of the books. I’ve liked Shrapnel, for example. But I’ve also been angry at all the woke. I don’t want to see any more situations like with Pardoe, and though I love Tex, this has become more than just a “Sir, this is a Wendy’s” situation. I haven’t bought one of their products since the early Fall. But is this going anywhere? Am I just refusing to buy a book I might like, yet with no impact on their behavior? Is there any organized move underway to make them come back to sanity? Something needs to change. But I can’t tell if anything is being done.
Seems like the specific accusations being made are ones that can be used as a retaliation if nothing else, a defamation/libel suit seems like it would be a big thing there and watching the ensuing mayhem and panic there.

Gamers, in general, are some of the most welcoming people you can imagine. Unfortunately, this is why so many of the game companies are now suffering from infestation by activists. They scream to be let in, and once in, they start screaming for everyone who disagrees with them to get out. Guess I shouldn't be surprised that it would happen at a game store as well.
Make sure to let Yelp know what you think.
And Google Reviews.
Hello again Jon. You guessed it... Yes, I played Battletech too. I still have my 2nd edition boxed sets from the 80's.
Call them out on it, they insist they're not racist even if they call you one for kicking someone out for threatening or problematic behaviors.
Went to Origins last June and it had a booth for Battletech novels with 3 large posters.
All 3 posters had a masculine, bi-racial, female as the lead character.
Catalyst will never get one penny from me moving forward. There is waaaay too much stuff for free online.
hm guess that game store dont Know that Robin is a round the age 0f 9-12 years old and in The Batman Series he is around 14 by season 5 so looks like the manager got some MAPS tendency to
Phobia is a human right
When I started playing AD&D there were only 2 books: DMG AND PHB. The 2nd RPG I ever played was Battletech/Mechwarrior. Next was Magic: the Gathering. I now play the computer versions of Mechwarrior. It took longer for the gaming community to become polluted by political strife from the real world.
Thank God I'm in Killeen, and not DFW.
Battletech's Mechs are not Transformers, so every Battletech player has an irrational fear of Transformers.
Apolligies are no longer enough.
When they do apologize it is not about being wrong. It is about getting caught.
Frankly they need treated the same way they treat others. Apologies are only weakness and they must fully bend the knee.
Lawsuits are coming.
Jon has been a bully online for sometime it seems. I just hope he knows defamation laws exist.
You cannot publicly slander someone's name online in a video or business of being a pedophile with zero evidence.
Well guess my comstar army is gonna keep collecting dust in the shelf
The BattleTech Community Manager is working on rewriting the lore into some sort of woke garbage. Grummz made a post on X last year on April 8th about this.
Too bad for Catalyst that they cant retcon the older, classic lore into oblivion, because while they hold the IP that old lore doesnt belong to them!
@@thorveim1174 The community manager at Catalyst has been in a fight with Michael Stackpole over her retconning the lore.
Oh? Got links? @@madmerlot841
A woke business in *TEXAS* of all places doing this....yea it's not gonna end well.
It is thanks to the tens of thousands of people from California who moved to cities like Austin and Houston that continue to do the same things that created the conditions which caused them to flee to Texas while expecting a different result.
@rflett5797 I feel that....cause that's me tbh 😅
I moved to Texas because I'm paying the same for a 2 story 4 bedroom home rather than a one bedroom apartment in South Central for 2.5K
I promise I'm one of the good ones 😅
@@rflett5797As a red Californian, I shake my head at them. Hopefully Texas doesn’t become another Colorado.
@@rflett5797 Spiritually Californian, not mine, but I love it
Dallas is blue now.
I've been to this store. It's the last time they get my business or that if my fellow gamers. There may not be a ton of gaming stores left. But they'll do better after the customers stop using this store. It's sad, because this will only damage the store, because Texas is overwhelmingly conservative.
I left the battletech communtiy because of how fast and hard they rolled over to this mess.
I am saddened that Battletech has fallen to the alphabet mafia, I’ve been a fan, reading books and playing since the early 90’s. Pledged on both the Clan Invasion and Mercenaries Kickstarters, but now I’m wondering if I’ll ever buy anything new.
40+ years, these people come and inevitably go, we the true fan base remain. Hopefully the next owners do better.
#1 thing I do not like is when companies push real world politics into a game
When people yell that crap at me I just go “AND”
I just tell them to stop asking me to date them if they want to act like that in public and that our standing date night is now called off. Shuts them down almost every time.
hehe... "...annnnd your point is?"
I've walked away from Battletech. The woke hive mind has infected one of my favorite games.
I often wish that there was a way to give multiple thumbs up. I'm a fan of Pardoe. And many of the old Battletech book authors.
Unfortunately, the tabletop gaming scene is pretty much a lost cause. It might get better in a few years, but truthfully, I doubt it. Your best bet is to start a game store that doesn't discriminate.
Or set up a tabletop gaming event, promoted via word of mouth, and fill seats on an invitation-only basis.
This sucks, because Gen X has been around for 30 years. It's one of the best shops in the area. I hope the owner fixes this somehow.
This is what they do. Cancel them back.
I'm guessing a few GFS's in the Fort Worth/Dallas area are rubbing there hands ready to welcome new patrons.
Turn about is fair play...just a reminder.
No i don’t know and please don’t call me Shirley….
In the middle of printing a 2000 pt saurian star host army right now not going to lie being a flag waving trump supporter something like this happening to me has been a thought in the back of my mind the whole time.....shouldn't be a thing......frustrating
Gaming stores can't really afford being this political
This is thier right as a store owner however I don't think that they will like the end result of the choice.
3d printing and PDFs are the way. There are also some great online resources with multiplayer support.
Wait til this ends the only way it can. With the store going out of business. I hope the store owner enjoys their job search.
Our store will gladly ship to Texas, especially to a fellow Battletech player.
No. Not my battletech.
Boycott the store. I am sure DFW has other hobby stores. Get woke go broke.
You don't have a right to compel people to do business with you. That's slavery.
@@Mereologist You don't have the right to discriminate against someone for their beliefs either.
Unless it's a tourney playing in a store is afilter in and off itself, that was well known bf the culture wars.
Maybe somebody was creeping on the guy.
The guy was not interested so he had to be banned.
Who knows?
Do you often assume homosexual assault in these scenarios or is it something just often on your mind lately?
No peace with Napoleon
Thats a horrible paint job in the article.
I was banned from 2 shops for being on the right wing 2 years ago by a place called epic games in Australia, I earned a full lifetime ban and an ban from the venue in which the tournaments and friendly games are held.
It's really fucking annoying how insufferable theses people are you have a sense of humour and they can't handle it.
I can give a full recount if anyone is interested
That latino players whould immeditaly played the UNO Reverse card and got them banned for being racist.
Boycott until they close permanently or sell out to new owners that are truly politically neutral or at least non judgemental either way.
Dealt with similar so doesn’t shock me.
He should sue the store for ethnic and racial discrimination.
It would be discrimination based on nationality. Theyre discriminating against him based on his free speech, an intrinsic aspect of American nationality, not the color of his skin. Its still illegal to discriminate based on national origin. You filthy free speaking Americans! You cant speak freely in this place of public accommodation (any establishment that offers goods, services, entertainment, or temporary lodgings to members of the general public)
Go woke go broke, dei don't buy..3d printers are cheap start investing.,
I've got plenty of the old Ral Partha lead minis, including an Unseen Warhammer and Marauder. I'm set for a good long while. Although my rule books are a bit tattered...
No 1 star reviews for the store yet? You disappoint me! It's time we played the game by their rules if they insist on dragging us in.
Thank you sir.
And by local game store you mean fans of the playground club house. Even in Texas.
In Texas hahahaha a red state it's like these people love losing money
If the store publicly call him Homophobic and/or Transphobic, that would seem to be defamation. Mr. Castillo should consult a lawyer imho.
Thanks!
